Used 1999 Volvo S80 Consumer Reviews
Once Upon A Time
Purchased a 240DL had the car for 17 years, 350,000 miles...purchased the S80 Turbo used and it has been a nightmare, went to the dealer to obtain the car's history and it printed off onto the floor..everything from replaced transmission, Huge electrical problems which constitutes most of the car's ability to function. My 240's outside to the day is still quality while this cars fenders are loose, rubber stripping outside is falling off...Once Upon a Time Volvo was doing it right, for themselves as well as the customers. The biggest problem has been that the company doesn't rep the product. Scary situation unless you have more than sense...
Personal Experience
The car is very comfortable, drives well. HAs had minor issues requiring dealer service on 12 occasions. This is a nusiance. Has also had recall work.
Not worth $43000
Leased 1999 T6. It's been a reliability problem since 3 miles after taking delivery. 13 un-scheduled service appoints - Check Engine light comes on regularly. Transmission Control Module and Evap Control replaced twice. Most parts not available and require ordering resulting in another visit to Volvo service. Brakes are a nightmare - long play on pedal where nothing happens, then instant grip. Volvo service says this is normal. Remote locking has failed twice. When the lease is up this car goes back to Volvo. Volvo offered $500 off residual to keep the car but residual is $5000 over Edmunds TMV. Volvo knows this car was a problem.
Do not buy this car
At first I loved it, even though the right blinker was hanging out of the car when I got home from the dealership. That has happened two more times. The check engine light comes on every other time you get gas. The air conditioner went out (on a road trip, in summer, in TX, with a baby. Bushings had to be replaced. I have had 5 new 17" tires (never had that problem with any other car). The ride is no longer quiet. A lot of little things that add up to severe annoyance!
Great Car, Bought another one!
I owned this vehicle for 30 months, putting 45k miles on it. It performed flawlessly. There was a recall on the ball joint assembly, which wasn't broken, but replaced anyway. My brother bought the car and is very happy with it. I bought a new 2002 S80 with updated tires (Pirelli)
