Used 1991 Volvo 240 Consumer Reviews
Amazing car
I've been driving this car since 1995 and I love it. I feel so safe in it. I love the exterior/interior design, it is so unique from any other car. They definitely stand out. I like the simplicity of them too. The rear wheel drive is my only complaint for winter driving? however, I should put winter tires on not all season, that might help. Also, the speakers/tape deck tend to go on a lot of 240's. I love the power steering and how it handles. It is slow to accelerate but c'mon you are driving a Volvo, they are known to be heavy tanks, so I don't think its fair to complain about the acceleration of it. Want a faster car buy something smaller.
Great, Reliable, Classic Car
Just purchased my first Volvo--a classic, reliable, car with 160,000 miles on it, no rust, engine sounds fine, drove it from New York to Michigan and it performed great for me. Minor things need to be repaired-- electric windows, a few dashboard lights, the tape player. I'm very happy with this purchase. There is a Volvo dealer close by for repairs if and when it needs them.
Best car ever
This is one of those car models that should never have been discontinued. It's the best car I've ever owned (I've owned 23 cars). People who own these babies are really lucky. I purchased it at 90k miles, and it's still only at 132,000, so it will almost certainly outlive me. It's a minor item, but that 32-foot turning circle is a big plus. Overall I get about 25mpg in all kinds of driving. Repairs are expensive, but the purchase of any new car, even if I could afford one, would be a step down, so it's worth maintaining.
Built to Last
I purchased this car new in 1990 and to date have put on 254,000 miles, and it still is going strong. I expect to drive it for at least another 25,000, perhaps 50,000 miles. I've never had a problem with reliability. I service it every 5,000 miles without fail, changing the oil and following Volvo's maintenance schedule. Before I purchased my present car, I had a 240DL rear ended by a van. My trunk was destroyed, one-half of my rear seat was crushed, all four tires exploded, but my passenger and I walked away unhurt. Volvo is a safe car. I keep putting off a new car because my old Volvo continues to run without complaint.
They Don't Make Them Like This Anymore
If you are looking to break the Land Speed Record - well...this is the wrong car for you. If you want a car of legendary quality, safety and reliability, then look no further. These may not be "sexy" qualities, but there's something to be said about a car that has an average lifespan of 16.2 years. Gas mileage (mine is 25/gallon in the city, 32 on the highway) is surprisingly good for the car's size and age. Great cornering makes them fun to drive. The chassis are huge and the engines are simple, making D.I.Y. maintenance easier than most vehicles. And I can't even begin to tell you how great it is to own a rear-wheel drive with a standard transmission in an Eastern Canadian winter.
