Used 1990 Volvo 240 Consumer Reviews
Twelve years of service
I joked with the salesman that he shouldn't sharpen his pencil too much because he wouldn't see me again in two or three years. Twelve years later we're still driving a reliable, clean, rust-free car. In some ways I wish it would show some sign of falling apart so I could justify something...anything...new! But it seems to steadfastly refuse to age.
Solid, reliable and square.
My Volvo has run perfectly for almost 13 years. Since the warranty expired I spend an average of $400 annually for maintenance and repairs. Good mechanics are hard to find. But I spend less annually on repairs than my father does with his much newer Chrysler. Avoid power features if you can. The power windows are getting slower and slower and the central locks and cruise control had to be repared last year. The body and original paint are still in awesome shape, most of my friends can't believe that this car is 13 years old.

Such a classic!
We bought our second Volvo wagon with 160K miles on it from its original owner. It's currently at 238K miles and shows no signs of quitting. Very impressive given that we've not changed the oil but every 10K miles!! Aside from wear items all we've had fail was a fuel relay that was $14 from FP Groton. I sure wish they continued making these. By the time ours quits finding a low mileage replacement will be hard.
What a reliable brick!
Unbelievable car. I've only had it for about a week, but I already love the car! It may be a bit on the slow side, but who cares when 10 years later down the road I'll still be putting in the same car with over 300,000 miles. Very solid car for being 18 years old, no squeaks, rattles, etc. Handles very well, and the interior is very classy.
Best Car I ever had
This is by far the best car I ever owned. True, there isn't alot of leg room for tall people and the engine does roar while in first gear, but Volvos are known for there safety and reliability. I love my 240DL. I'll never drive another car again. The maintenance is relatively inexpensive if I ad up what I've put into the car over the last 4 years. If you have a mechanic who knows Volvos, then repairs are fairly cheap because they know what they are doing. Got 195000 miles on it and still take me and my kids wherever I have to go.
