Used 2004 Volkswagen Touareg V6 AWD 4dr SUV (3.2L 6cyl 6A) Consumer Reviews
Think twice
We bought our Touareg in Nov 03 after looking at and test driving pretty much every SUV on the market. We liked the safety features of the Touareg and all the extras that came with it. My electrical problems started about 1 month after we bought it. My "check tire pressure" light would come on constantly. Dealership had to replace something, I guess this is a common problem with Touaregs. My car is in the shop now for the 2nd time because it just won't start. I have had to have AAA come out and jump it and take it to the dealer where so far they cannot find the cause. Something is drainign battery don't know what it is.
'04 was a bad year
We love the way our Touareg rides, drives and handles, but hate the reliability, and gremlins in the electrical system that we have experienced over the two years we have owned it.

Lots of problems
Apparrently it isn't a good idea to purchase a vehicle in it's first year out? Headlights go out for no reason, tire pressure system keeps malfunctioning, hatchback/trunk keeps popping open. Have had it to the dealership many times with no success.
premature infatuation
Me thinks I bought too quickly. After 3 previous VW purchases (over the 7 cars in my past), and a nice test drive, I thought I was making a wise purchase. After less than 3K miles, and 90 days, I am regretting this selection. V-6 does NOT have enough power - shame on VW for thinking so, and asking 5K more for a V8. Quirky and tempermental electrical system (numerous warning lights coming and going w/ no resolve from the dealer - YET). Interior trim peeling on driver door (yuck, did I buy a KIA)?! Can't sell it for what I owe- feel I have a middle of the road car at a high-end price - as I expected much more from VW and much more in a 40K car. Hope VW is listening (this may be my last VW)
What have I gotten myself into
I bought the 2004 Touareg in Aug. of 2005 and it has been nothing but trouble ever since. For all the problems I have had, I always had to take it back at least twice because it was not done right the first time. I have had problems with the amplifiers that had to be replaced two times. The tire indicator has always had a malfunction, but it was not until after the warranty that the dealer finally admitted that all 2004's Touaregs have this problem. And most recently the horn does not work at all, which will cost $438 to fix!! My advise it not to buy a 2004. And I hate that they do not have loaner car service. I am at the dealer so much they are programed in my cell phone as a personal contact.
