I bought this 2013 VW Tiguan in November 2020 with 62,000 miles on it. It looks, drives, and rides like new. I had to find a car in a hurry, and tried this on a whim just because it was in my price range. I'd never even been in one, but was very impressed. Since it was only the second car I'd looked at, I took a couple of weeks to look at more, but kept coming back to it. My husband said I was nuts not to buy it! I did and am glad. The size is just right, and both my husband (5'11") and I (5'1") can find perfect driving positions. The visibility is wonderful all around, unlike others that have upswept side windows and small back windows. It has great pick-up after the initial lag, excellent handling, and a quality, but not plush, interior. The controls are intuitive and not confusing like those of some newer vehicles. Absolutely love the heated seats! I like the "stiff" ride, and the AWD is great. I've driven it in heavy snow and slippery roads twice so far this winter, and it hasn't strayed once. Gas mileage isn't fantastic, but I don't put a lot of miles on a car, so I'm fine with that. The SE has just enough bells and whistles, but not too many. I do wish it had the back-up camera, but I plan on adding that.

Great performing rough rider

It rides a bit rough, but handles great. If you want a smoother ride, don't get the R-Line.

VW Tiguan is a great SUV

The VW Tiguan is good, attractive design inside and out. Seats fit great and feel tight and safe. Visibility from drivers seat is good. Built very well: materials and design are excellent for the price of the SUV. Performance of the TSI is superb. The only thing I do not like about the VW Tiguan is the road noise when on most highways going at 60-70 MPH. Ride is great and comfort is great. VW intentionally has more road noise because they do not add the extra weight that comes with sound proofing their autos. The weight causes gasoline milage to go lower so they opt for better milage.

Tiguan is has well controlled ride, good performance, good cargo space with easy to fold back seats. Size is perfect for secure hi way driving while being convenient for around town.

Nice Car but Under Powered

I've had my 2013 Tiguan for 2 months now and the new car shine is wearing off. The car is under powered and lacks any pep. Conversely, to another reviewers comments about the weird shifting being improved. It must have been really bad in the past because my Tiguan really shifts weird, especially on hills. The Tiguan suffers from an issue in the 4Motion control in that it cannot distinguish between a steep hill and unsafe driving conditions. The car slows down dramatically taking away acceleration control up/down on steep hills. Not a car for the mountains!

Satans Chariot

I don't even know where to begin with this POS. Honestly, had a true honeymoon phase with this car in the beginning. Everything was great, everything was problem free. I bought the car used at 56k miles. I got about 2 years of this car being good to me. Then it said, "GOOD LUCK!" and decided to become my worst nightmare. First, the turbo went, gas mileage fell and performance overall was just not fun. I do not quite remember how much the turbo cost to fix. But, I'm in college-everything is expensive. Then, it was leaking oil. Nobody could find the issue but my oil kept disappearing to the point I was getting very loud knocking and sputtering. GREAT! Then, out of nowhere, the speakers stop working. I have one speaker in the rear passenger door that works still. Let's be clear; I've never put volume above 12. The base level, off-brand sound system is crap anyways, loud music sounded horrendous. Then, AGAIN, OUT OF NOWHERE, a rust crack starts to appear on my passenger door. Just started to grow one day. I have no idea why, there was never a dent or crack. After that I was plagued with a leaky tire for god knows what reason. I replaced the tire three times. I'm assuming it was a problem with the rim. Still, why were there no problems with a leaking tire for the first two years, and then all of the sudden?? I don't parallel park often but when I do, it's fantastic. Not a single thing on gods green earth has touched this rim while I have owned it. Next Chapter: engine misfiring at 80,000 miles. Now the grand reveal; LEAKING SUNROOF. A problem so persistent in these cars yet NOBODY seems to talk much about it. I am talking about pushing my hand down on the floor and water pooling up to above my wrists. Apparently, it is a faulty drain tube that shrinks with age and breaks. Many have noted that a fix is not a permanent fix and it is very time-consuming and EXPENSIVE (they quoted me starting at $2000 just to take the car apart and find the source) if taken to the dealer who are the only people who 100% know how to do it. There may be some other fanatics out there that can do it. So, you can only imagine that this leak has caused extensive electrical problems. Power seats don't work, heated seats don't work, airbag failure light is on, tire pressure failure light, backup lights went out, traction control failure. I'm sure there is more to come. Now, I have taken this car in early every time it needed an oil change, never let a warning light go unchecked, did necessary mileage maintenance, even did extensive washing on winter days when there was a lot of salt on the ground, always used gas over 91. I WINED and DINED this car. Zero reward. Also; no, the rust issue and speaker issue happened long before my car was a victim of self-induced flooding. The car has literally been falling apart piece by piece. I hate it. I hate it so much. And one more thing: it's pretty cheap looking. When it's new and clean, sure, it has a certain appeal. Once it's lived in, it looks terrible. Small seats, metal brackets showing everywhere, plastic everywhere, just terrible. Willing to pay someone to steal it.

Didn't last long before trouble prevailed!

Bought 2014 Tiguan in May. Have driven 9700 km in 3 mos., mostly hwy driving. Previous 3 yrs drove a JEEP Grand Cherokee Overlander. Disliked it lagged when speeding up to pass a car. My 2004 Toyota 4-Runner had awesome pickup! Tiguan's has good pickup. I drive 13 hrs, & found I couldn't stretch my legs, so my left knee would stiffen & bother me. Putting my seat back, made me too far away. I'm 5'3". Vehicle went in for oil change Aug 6. It drove perfectly prior; after it shakes like I'm driving in an earthquake at 80 km/hr and gets worse by 100 km/hr (60mi/hr). It feels dangerous to drive now. Taking it back in Monday morning to rectify whatever is the problem.

Don’t buy one. (that’s period). My Ram Ecodiesel gets 5mpg better, still has original tires (Tiguan is on third set of $1500 Michelins at 47 k). Rear window spontaneously blew into thousands of pieces last summer (I was standing behind it, had been in parking lot in tx summer and parked it in our garage; exited vehicle and heard a “pop”...just disintegrated!). In the state of TX, must get car inspected prior to registration each year...took it to vw lewisville @ 47k to take care of inspection and 50k service. Dealer called to say upper contol arm and bushings shot at over 500 bills per side. Tigger has had four thrust alignments due to my concerns about tire wear (wondering if it is four motion related), but each time alignment is “green”. Going to open a lemonade stand and wring this damn car dry!
