Used 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 4dr Sedan (2.8L 6cyl 5M) Consumer Reviews
Class Action Lawsuit
Initially, I loved this car, it was a blast to drive and is very stylish. That was until the problems started. This will read just like so many other reviews. Rear brakes went at 20K, Mass air flow sensor went at 30K, water pump went at 40K, coil pack and assoc. electircal went at 60K. I paid $25K for this piece of junk and expect better from VW. With so many of the same problems occuring with so many of these cars, there definitely should be some accountability on VW's part. These repairs should be covered. I have no choice but to seek out other owners to join me in a class action lawsuit. At this point, I simply cannot afford not to sue. Contact me if interested.
Wanna Waste Your Money? Buy A VW.
This was my second car and taught me the biggest lesson of my life. Buying this car means putting a lot of money into it. I was looking forward to blacking the car out and when i saved up money to do so on my project, something always went wrong. In the shop at least 2 or 3 times a month. Burns oil constantly. Electrical system difficulties. Headlight covers get really hazy. The way they have the rear view mirror is ridiculous and doesn't stay on well with heat.

Save Your Money
I have a 2001 with every option. After 8,000 miles had to get new transmission. Next problem the lights, I have replaced every bulb in the car all before a year was up. The newest problem turn signal relay went out. I have heard of problems with the electrical and windows falling down and with the latest problems I expect for those things to occur next. Overall this car is a joke. Interior is made for short people only, very uncomfortable seats after any lengthy ride. Leather interior is already changing color and deteriorating and the "clear coat" is already coming off.

Aversion to warning lamps? Avoid this car. Latest: "Emissions Workshop" lamp triggered by failed airflow mass sensor, causing engine to run rich, emitting too much unburnt fuel in exhaust. VW claims not covered by 8yr./80k mile emissions warranty; EPA would be interested in cause if not coverage of warranty, I'm sure. This is 2nd failure of engine electronics; not a good track record. Also, body creaks/groans don't live up to teutonic image of car. Embarrassed that I fell under spell of features list and sound of V6; VTEC 4 cylinder next for me.
Keep Looking!!!
I loved the look of this car and that is why I bought it; don't be fooled too. I have had the electrical system replaced twice, mass air flow sensor replaced twice, transmission replaced once, engine coil replaced once, rear back brakes needed replaced early and front brakes are warped, the exhaust system is very noisey at first take- off and it is sluggish. I have maintained this car to the manufactured specifications and then some, yet the car still fails me on a regular basis!!
