The "do it all" midsize truck.

2021 Ford Ranger
To be honest, when I was looking for a new truck I had my sights on a tacoma. After looking at ALL of the current midsize trucks, I personally found the ranger to be the best choice. Considerably less expensive than the tacoma, better towing than the 22 frontier, better off road stats than the canyon / colorado (not including ZR2). I went with the middle ground, a XL crew cab FX4. Im a … functional type of person and thats what this truck is, functional to the core. I find the interior to be thought out and everything is grouped together in a way that makes sense, all the drivetrain switches are by the shifter, infotainment and climate are together, steering wheel controls are simple and easy to use, even small details like the rear of the cab having a felt strip to prevent seatbelt noise and scratches, a center console and glove box big enough to fix full size "hand held items", or even the dash material made so it doesn'tcasue glare in the sun, this truck definitely has a higher attention to detail that we have not seen from ford in a while. The body was built for better fuel economy and to wade through deeper water than competitors (reason the nose looks rounded to act like a boat hull). The FX4 package comes with skid plates, locking rear diff, 4x4, trail control, and hill assist. All of the features of the Tacoma TRD pro for about 15k less. The tech works just as id expect, the ride is much smoother than expected, and fuel economy is better than ford rated. My last 2 roadtrips ive averaged 26-28mpg when the 4x4 is only rated for 24hwy. Math was calculated from pump to pump, not just by the trucks computer, even though it was the same. I especially like the 2.3l turbo paired to the 10spd transmission. Going up and down mountain grades the truck handled it easily. Maintained a speed of 70-75mph while never going over 3-3.5k rpms. Overall I am extremely impressed with this truck and surprised ford was able to put out a truck that will rival and even outclass the tacoma and the rest of the competition for considerably less money. Off road capability is another big plus for this truck, with its specs and tech it rivals and again even outdoes the current "champ" the tacoma in some areas off road. If you're in the market for a midsize truck and are concerned more about capability than you are what the interior may look like this is the truck for you. This truck can handle just about everything you can throw at it and then some.
