Dealer Review:
I purchased a Mercedes Benz GL 450 from Rite Cars dealership during the month of February 2020. Less than 30 days of the purchase the check engine light came on. Prior to that I noticed the breaks squeaking, and noticed the service plan B was not done. Because the check engine light was on I took the vehicle to the Mercedes Benz of Huntington. They preformed a complete diagnostic on the vehicle. The vehicle has major defaults which includes oil leaks (the oil has leaked onto my driveway),faulty tires, bad rear breaks, faulty power steering hose, and other significant engine issues. Because I took the vehicle to Mercedes and not to Rite Cars I paid for the diagnostic, gas cap, and rear brakes. I did not seek any reimbursement for any of those cost. I contacted Rite Cars (via email) and I provided them with the print out of the diagnostic. I then called the dealership in regards to my email and a salesman said ‘oh yea Ms. Beard I was just about to call you about your email”. The salesman was not interested in anything I had to say. He over talked me, raised his voice, used inflammatory words, used verbal bullying tactics, and then said “I’m sure you think you are a smart little girl’. After that I concluded the call. About 45 minutes later the same salesman called me and ask “ok what you wanna do”? I responded and told him I would like the vehicle fixed. He immediately stated “we ain’t paying for anything Mercedes did cause you shoulda brought the car here” (he also informed me the calls are recorded). I informed the salesman that I wasn’t seeking reimbursement for that (as stated in my email), however I did want the $4,000.00 worth of work provided by the diagnostic to be covered. He then told me that I had to bring the car back to Rite Cars so his mechanic could look at the vehicle. I agreed to do so, but they wouldn’t have a mechanic available until Monday March 16th. I then asked the salesman should I drive the car until then. The salesman man responded with “its you car do what you want”! I said the contract for this vehicle is less than 30 days old, and I should not have to go through all of this. Nonetheless I agreed to wait as instructed. The next day after the conversation the check engine light began to flash (the salesman told me the day before the check engine light came on because of the gas cap. But I replaced the gas cap! So the salesman was incorrect). I shut the car off and attempted to turn it back on, and it wouldn’t even start. I then had the vehicle towed to a local licensed mechanic. Once at the shop we went over the warranty (I keep the warranty in the car), and the warranty clearly states two things. 1. If the vehicle breaks down you are to tow it to the closest licensed mechanic (not the original dealership where the car was purchased as I was told by the salesman the day prior). 2. You are NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE once you know something is faulty with the vehicle (again another inaccurate statement given by the salesman the day prior). While at the dealership we contacted my warranty company MileEdge. The representative informed me of three things. 1I can’t file a complaint as of yet because of the timeframe in which I had the contract. I was told the contract is new. 2 See if the owner of the dealership would be willing to give me another vehicle. 3 If the dealership is unwilling to pay for the extensive damages return the vehicle for a complete refund. To date I have not had any correspondence with the dealership via email or phone calls. I will say that I did request that I no longer wanted to speak with the salesman, but I would speak with management. I have rights under the lemon law, and I followed the steps outlined by the law. All I wanted was for the vehicle to be fixed, or get a new vehicle. It’s unfortunate the salesman felt as though because my credit wasn’t perfect I should be great full for what I received. Not having perfect credit does not mean you can treat those individuals like they are less than human. Especially when you advertise you work with people with less than perfect credit.
