A real sleeper...

2017 Ford C-Max Energi
...is a vehicle that delivers more than the promised by the looks or the name. It's the driver's little secret. That's my 2017 C-Max Energi, an overachiever. Let's get this out front- for the first 16 months and 20,000 miles, it's recorded 65 mpg, not counting the 74 cents of shore power I've fed it every night. Plug-in hybrid mileage varies enormously by usage; I'm met owners claiming … 200 MPG, but they're using another car for every long trip. You can squeeze out about 7,500 miles of EV driving per year, but that's not my style. This is my only car, and every week I take several long drives of 100-200 miles. Typically a tank of gas lasts 650 miles or so. So it's an excellent Economy Car- but it's also a great highway cruiser, quiet, stable, comfortable, well equipped. And, if you care to, you can go 0-60 in under eight seconds. It's not a truck, a van or an SUV, but it does the job of "car" better than any other I've owned. My net cost was about $20k, after $9000 of Federal and state tax credits- that's one factor that leads to a low resale value. 45,000 mile update- with 3 1/2 years under its belt, the C-Max is still running strong. The only issue i'm having is a balky infotainment unit. It's sometimes slow to respond to touch commands, and the bluetooth connection to my phone is now unreliable. I plug my phone into the car's USB outlet as a workaround, and this also charges the phone while I drive. My OEM Michelin energy saver tires lasted 40k miles. I replaced them with Michelin Primacy runflat tires, and my overall fuel consumption dropped to 60 mpg. Well worth it, I think, for that added assurance (the C-Max has no spare tire), plus better adhesion to the road. I enjoy driving this car so much that I have no idea what could replace it.
