2008 Tundra Issues Left and Right
THE BAD: Extensive Frame Rust and Toyota will no longer perform a coating treatment. Can see daylight right through bed. Bad air injection pumps that a person (including Toyota themselves) cannot even diagnose. $2900 from dealer quoted (completed the job myself in my driveway in 2 hours with Toyota parts for $250). Bad secondary air injection pumps in passenger wheelwell. Differential is clicking (sounds like Technical Service Bulletin issue). Radio went bad and cost $600 to have dealer replace. Trailer running lights dead at plug and not fuse, relay, or plug. Others have experienced this issue on the forums (probably another Toyota issue). Gas mileage is junk. THE GOOD: Roomy interior. 5.7L is strong (at the compromise of mpg). Nice looking truck. Thats about it. Will probably buy a Ram Rebel 1500 Ecodiesel next and never buy Toyota again. There were so many issues with this truck right out of the box. Toyota engineers need to get their heads on straight... I'm a mechanical myself, this vehicle is a ticking time bomb.

Transmission and acceleration
Love the truck but it has some serious acceleration problems and transmission problems . With 19,000 miles on it I have to replace my tires . Previously owned to two Dodge rams and for the price rams are much better for everything but the ride. Toyota beats ram in ride and smoothness . Toyota way to expensive. For that type of truck. The biggest downfall is the sensitive gas pedal . Very dangerous

Great with improvement needed
First year, every thing was fine. MPG was steadily increasing. Now mileage stinks, 15.3, max. highway. The trailer towing wiring is in a vulnerable place under the bumper. It drags off when you go off-road. Lazy engineering. Put it in the bumper. The wipers have issues. Build up of snow/ice while driving will hang pass. side up in extreme weather. Now only one wiper works and it is going to dealer. Do not buy dealers remote start or steps. Remote starter too expensive, $600 and does not work or will not let you start it without getting out, locking the doors, then getting back in. Now it does not work at all even with new batts. Steps are too short to use to access bed. Otherwise great.
Best and most honest review you will get
I work in the plant that builds the Tundras so I know a lot about them and plus I just bought one a few months ago so I am going to be as honest as I can be about it. Overall the Tundra is a great truck but like all other vehicles it could have some improvements. But Toyota does a lot of things to there vehicles that the domestic companies do not do like Toyota puts sealer on the edge door seams to keep from rusting and spray pvc under the vehicle and in the wheels wells to reduce road noise and to prevent rust, sprays antichip along rocker panels to prevent rock chips. I think all of these extra little things add up and is what makes Toyotas good reputation.
Tundra Could be Better, Much Better
Need a part? Be ready to dig DEEP. As an example one steel stamped (basic) wheel: $180.00. The plastic insert that fits around the lugs? $98.43. If you do the math, just the wheels and plastic insert is over 10% of the full purchase price of the truck. Toyota charges big time for parts. Gas mileage? V-6: window sticker from Toyota said 19. I get 18, then 17 now 16. My Ford F-150 V-6: always @ 20. The Ford V-6 eng. was larger.
