Used 2005 Toyota Prius Consumer Reviews
Prius 101
I have had my Prius since June of 2005. I bought it to replace a Toyota Camry which I drove for about 7 years. The car is reliable, fun to drive and makes me very, very happy when I put in about $17 to fill the tank with gas prices climbing to over $3.00 per gallon. I find the feel of the car very spacious and roomy. The drawbacks are that the mileage, while excellent does not live up to what they say. When I drive really well I am achieving about 47 miles per gallon with work. I cannot seem to sustain anything higher. For a very brief moment I achieved 50 mpg, but it didn't last. The interior of the car specifically the plastic scratches very easily. Though all in all, it's a great car.
summary
Overall a very well designed vehicle. Needs a power driver's seat and telescopic steering wheel to fit a wider range of driver sizes.

Tires bad already
We had a 2001 Prius sedan. The tires didn't last very long so when we went to buy our 2005, we specifically asked about tires. We were assured the problem had been taken care of. However, the tires on the 2005 haven't lasted any longer. We are at 20,000 miles and have been told we need replacements at next service. Evidently, the sales people and service people have never communicated about the problem. What you save on gas, you spend on tires so gas saving is not a good reason to buy this car. Also, the sedan was easier to drive. The hatchback has blind spots. The hatchback open so high, you have to be careful of overhead garage doors. Be careful not to shut door when hatch is open.
Nice Car!!
I really enjoy this car! There are a few things that could be better. The rear view dimmer mirror is nice when cars are far away, but when they get close as the often do, the mirror does not dim. There is one feature that doesnt make sense. If you are going down the road and listening to the radio, in the console there is a button that says there is a message, and when you go to push it to see it, there is a message that comes up that says that you cant view the message while driving! I really enjoy the great gas mileage. I have seen my average say 57 before, which was great for going up and down 2 mountains one way to work. The car is a bit expensive, but great otherwise.
Great car, but poor interior trim
Love the car, love the mileage. Hate that little things are constantly happening with the interior paint. Chips on the garage door opener button on the mirror caused the entire mirror to have to be replaced. Poor fit of doors and dash board is causing paint to rub off both. Poor dealer prep.
