The Snail
My wife has owned this car for three years now. It averages about 28 mpg and it's size is deceiving. Things I like: size, seat height, fuel econmomy. Things I hate: performance - it can't hardly get out of it's own way. This is the worst performing car we have ever owned. Seating position in relation to the steering wheel, console and door arm rest. Who designed this? My knee is against the shifter console and my arms are straight out to reach the wheel. The door arm rest is too far back as is the storage console to rest your arm while holding the wheel, if you can reach it. POOR Performing AC unit. This car has too much glass and not enough cooling capacity.
The Last Shall Be First
I'm over 80 so I know this will be my last car purchase. The quality of this car is excellent. One complaint would be with the horsepower (128), since I've always liked to 'step on it'. The storage space is well thought out. The display needs a switch to light it up for daytime viewing. I am very happy with my purchase and would do it over again if I had to buy another car.

Workhorse after 4 years
I needed a car to haul ~ 1000 lbs of equipment daily and the Matrix doesn't disappoint. Mileage ave 33 +/- 5 mpg, troublefree at 4 years old. Interiors are Ikea appearance and quality, soft plastic easily damaged otherwise looks 'durable.' Chrome trim is paint on plastic. Gauges hard to see in bright sunlight. Perfect student, starter, delivery, taxi fleet car. Nimble, easy to drive. Blind spots on rear fixable via adjusting side mirrors. Comfortable enough for 1000 mi one way drives. Adequately powered, can be floored to leap from entrance ramps, shut aircon for best torque. Poor traction from stock tires on bad roads.

Meets hauling needs. XRS auto averages 25/26 mpg. Armrests are too short and the window controls are at too severe of an angle. I have developed pains in my left wrist from the location and position of the window controls. I am 5'11" in height and find these window controls awkward to use. To avoid further wrist pain, I am now using my right hand to control the window levers. Glare from the rings around the gauges make it difficult to see the gauges at certain times during the day. I may end up painting the the chrome rings to reduce sun glare. After market window tinting has helped reduce glare and heat, since the a/c is not very efficient.
Hot Hot Hot Matrix
What an absolutely superb vehicle! As far as the looks go, it looks much better in person than the photos. This is a real head-turner that has great lines and a sporty look. The interior is super cool. everything looks sporty and is in a convenient location. It has a lot of very cool features. The ride is excellent and smooth. I feel that it does have a very nice burst of power. This car is surprisingly roomy. Overall it is a real "Home Run" for Toyota. I highly recommend it to anyone
