Like an appliance, should not be had with FWD

2015 Toyota Highlander XLE 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

We leased a new XLE in 2015 and had it for five years/60K miles. It held up very well during those five years, but frankly, I'd expect nothing less from a brand new vehicle. It's roomy, abundant storage, everyday usability is very good, although the sound system is unimpressive. My one big gripe with this vehicle was the FWD. We thought we wouldn't need AWD as 95% of our driving is in and around the LA area, but boy were we wrong. The engine (3.5L V6-295HP) outputs more power than the front wheels can handle, and from standstill you have to feather the throttle or the front wheels will spin. I find it unbelievable and unacceptable that Toyota would sell this vehicle with FWD only. Otherwise handling is average/unimpressive for a vehicle of this size. In SoCal we hardly ever have inclement weather, but even so we'd have to be careful on cloverleafs as it runs out of grip pretty quickly. Maybe AWD will improve handling, I sure hope so. I would advise anybody in the market for a Highlander to absolutely, positively pay the extra $$$ for AWD. All in all, this thing feels like an appliance. At the end of the lease we returned it and promptly forgot all about it. It served us well, the aforementioned notwithstanding, but it's just not a car you fall in love with.

Very disappointing for a Toyota

This is my third Highlander (2002 and 2011) and my 7th Toyota overall. This vehicle continues to be a disappointment as simple things like fluid/oil/grease/ leaks and interior or non-powertrain issues continue. I service this vehicle every 5K miles at a Toyota dealership as I do with all my Toyotas. Items like the door lock activator or quality of the seats were never a question of a Toyota in years past. No more! Simple design issues with front seat and the ability to have a qualified tech to fix the seat have raised concerns. I would do my research before ever buying a Toyota again.

Why put cheap cushions on a 40-50k vehicle. Very uncomfortable for long drive. I think all their new cars are the same. You guys suc. Also the 2015 XLE doesn't have blind spot warning.
