For those who don't want a Honda Pilot
Let me tell you about the 2011 Toyota Highlander. It may not look as good as a Mercedes and it certainly doesn't drive like a BMW, but you don't care, do you? You're buying a Toyota Highlander. Practicality, safety, and reliability are the things you're looking for, and let me tell you, it doesn't get much better than this. Nothing about this car will leave you wondering what you should have purchased instead. Sure, you could have bought that Audi Q7, but you read the online forums. Repair bills are never cheap for luxury cars. But you don't need a luxury car, do you? The Highlander has everything you need from Bluetooth connectivity, heated seats, automatic headlights, all-wheel drive, and good interior room. Sure, the Dodge Durango has a V8, but you don't need that, do you? You're buying a Toyota Highlander. The 3.5L 2GR-FE V6 is one of, if not the best in the class. Amazingly smooth power delivery, great fuel economy considering what car it's in, and excellent reliability. The only thing you can hear is a distant, low humming sound coming from the hood as the engine drones away, doing all the heavy lifting for you and demanding nothing in return except for a loving and caring owner. The five speed automatic isn't rushing through gears to get you to 60 miles per hour as quickly as possible, no, you're buying a Toyota Highlander. The engine and transmission work together as seamlessly as possible so you reach your desired speed without fuss and without issue. Sure, the Nissan Murano offers better fuel economy, but you drove one of those already. Coarse, rough, and a lifeless engine combined with a dull CVT transmission make daily driving a tireless chore. It looks like a great deal, but quality is never free of charge. You're not spending more to buy a Toyota Highlander because you like it, you're buying it because you know it's the best, and you would expect nothing less from a vehicle like this. Sure, the Chevy Traverse offers more interior room, but you don't need that, do you? You're buying a Toyota Highlander. Children will be just fine in the third row, and it's not like they need any creature comforts or luxury features. You wouldn't want anyone adjusting the sunroof or changing the radio station without your permission. Owning a Toyota Camry is like the color beige. Simple, inoffensive, and boring, but it gets you from point A to point B without any problems. Owning a Highlander is like adopting a shelter pet. Lovable, charming, and easy to live with, you know you made the right choice as soon as you bring it home. Sure, you could have gotten that adorable puppy that also happens to urinate in the house and chew up your shoes, but you don't want that, do you? Of course not, you're buying a Toyota Highlander.

Comfy family hauler absent of any sporting ambitions
My wife insisted on buying this car as a family vehicle. The car is very comfortable, quiet and has good acceleration. It's spacious, loads lots of stuff and has been reliable. Fuel economy is good for the class, but nothing to bragg about (it is after all a hulking SUV). We average about 22 miles/gallon. On the negative side, the car has prominet torque steer if you make use of only half the power, the steering is as numb as could be and the car floats more than it drives. Excitement factor is zero. It's totally incapable in snow despite its appearance. Rear visibility is very poor and the backup camera a must. Blue tooth is very basic and doesn't switch between different phones.

trailer package
I bought my highlander with the trailer page. All the printed material clearly states the package come with a wiring harness. When I got it home I found no such harness. A check at nthe dealer confirmed there was no such harness, it must be purchased. Most of the in the service department were aware of this fact. After a discussion with the sales department, they agreed with me that the printed material from Toyota and the window sticker clearly stqated that a harness was included in the trailer package. The sales department had it installed at no charge. Cramer Toyota of Venice Florida did an excellent job of resolving my problem. but Toyota clearly has an advertising problem .
Comfort, utility and fun to drive
Recent purchase. Avg MPG is about 22 or 23 combined. Interior is well thought out, with lots of storage and amenities. Limited road/wind noise. Got the tech package, which added heated mirrors and back-up camera. Only complaint is that the cargo cover takes up valuable storage area in the back. Love the 2nd row stow and go.
Refined & reliable
We splurged on the 4WD Limited and glad we did! This made in USA SUV is a pleasure to drive; a quiet, comfortable ride with ample power on demand. Toyota makes a great V6 engine. Really like the new front end design. Limited features at the top of my list include Smart Key keyless entry, push button start, JBL stereo w/XM, heated seats, back up camera. Find the MPG display gauge useful too. MPG has been about 20 on first 2 tanks - good but could be better. Snow is here and I can hardly tell! Drives very securely through snow and slush. Haven't had to engage the "snow" mode yet. This is a great family vehicle. Kids ask all the time to drive in it.
