Used 2018 Toyota Camry Consumer Reviews
Entune Seriously Sucks
Do your homework! I trusted Toyota (and Consumer Reports for that matter) but I am sorely disappointed. I am surprised stupid Entune 3.0 hasen't caused people to crash. I have an Android (S8) and have to shut down my phone at least once a week for Entune to work. I often get the message that Scout (the TERRIBLE tethered nav system - I repeat TETHERED nav system) cannot communicate with Entune, Entune apps are not functioning, etc. I would change the head unit in a hot second if I could but the way the dash is designed, there isn't a way to swap it out. My husband already got so frustrated with his 2018 RAV4's Entune system that we have spent an additional $1300 replacing the unit. (Yes, we did buy two Toyotas at the same time and yes, we are regretting doing so.) If it wasn't for the fact that I like the folks at the dealership I would consider staging a protest out front. It's not their fault that Toyota is not upgrading to a 21st century system BUT I'm starting to feel that there is a lack of "Truth in Advertising" when it comes to this system. If you rely on tech, go buy an Accord. Way less frustrating.

NAVer again!
I was taken in by the car's look, enjoyed the test drive and believed I paid a fair price. I never dreamed a company of Toyota's caliber would fall down flat on the technology side. The Entune 3.0 system was a major disappointment. (I should have required a phone to be setup on the system before purchasing it) I have only had the car a week and regret the purchase. This of course is an opinion; I would however suggest if the technology inside the car is important to you, have a phone paired to the car and see for yourself before you sign on the dotted line. Update: I’m hearing Toyota will transition to car play instead of beating the dead horse called “entune” in their 2019 models. Unfortunately there is no upgrade for the 2018. *** Update June 2019 Hearing that Toyota is offering an upgrade to Apple CarPlay for the 2018 models. The advertisement seemed to indicate there might be a charge from the Dealer. I called to get more information but no one seemed to know anything about it. I do not know if there will be a cost so changing my rating stands until then.

Display useless, Just error messages now
After three and a half years of owning the car, when i go to the dealership they tell me to "get over it" there will be no navigation link to the display. Instead of solving the problems with the entertainment/navigation they just KILLED ENTUNE! I REGRET THAT I DID NOT BUY THE HONDA ACCORD. if i call Toyota and tell them there is a problem, they are more concerned if this is a warranty issue or a design problem. i don't know if not having usable navigation is a warranty issue or a design problem. as far as i am concerned, i just have a problem and need something usable for navigation. Scout is unusable. Toyota is in total denial about this problem. i originally contacted them with a problem five days after purchase. my service history shows that the problem has be "Solved" six times! They just mark the status as "solved" each time i log this as a problem and Toyota no longer has a problem, just their customer! AFTER THREE YEARS YOU THINK THAT THEY WOULD MAKE AN EFFORT TO SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS, THEY DON'T CARE. my experience mirrors others. Entune and it's associated Apps are problematic/useless. Some of the apps work inconsistently like internet radio or simply do not work at all. Scout is dysfunctional and dangerous, to use and it dominates the phone. when Scout is running you can't use other apps on the device. it runs in the foreground with a useless graphic? my wife can't make changes or use the phone while i am driving and vise versa. other issues which i can live with are: -loud engine growl at certain rpms -wind noise by forward edge of front window near rear view mirrors. -when you close doors they make a cheap sound, tinny. -too much dependence on Toyota's proprietary Entune operating system. as a car company, they may not be up to the challenge of developing and maintaining its own on board operating system and suite of apps. it was a mistake not to adopt a more open system and not to reinvent a usable wheel. -there is no mirroring app to allow you to use other phone navigation apps like google maps or Waze. -you can't easily determine what vendor and model of phone is completely compatible with the infotainment operating environment. - i can never predict if the system will start playing music or not, if it will connect to the phone automatically. Can't get NPR One to work. the strong review for the 2018 Honda Accord makes me regretful of my choice of the Camry. if you have a doubt about my review visit the reviews for scout gps link, most are one star. *****I have bent a piece of coated bailing wire to the passenger air vent and clipped my phone case to it. that is how you navigate in the Camry.*****

Transmission problem can be fixed with TSB-0330-17
Transmission problem can be fixed with TSB-0330-17 software update to the ECM (Engine Control Module). The TSB update fixes problem with "Shift Shock on Initial Startup or Reacceleration". The TSB document introduction as follows "Some 2018 model year Camry vehicles may exhibit a shift shock when shifting from Park to Reverse on initial startup or a delay/shock when reaccelerating quickly after slowing down to a stop or near stop. The Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term: Powertrain Module [PCM]) logic has been updated to address this condition. Follow the Repair Procedure below to address this condition." Visited dealer and re-flashed the updated firmware to my car. The difference is noticeable significantly on a 600 mile one-day trip!. The car is now zippy and delivers the full power!. Anyone having issues with jerky transmission or slow acceleration can try re-flashing the firmware to fix the problem at zero cost! You can find the TSB document by googling it. Thanks

Transmission lags while accelerating.
First off overall car is nice, awesome style and roomy cabin. Although accelerating is bad is feels like it skips a trans gear when Im turning with a yield sign it takes about 2-3 seconds to accelerate and when it does it flies. I believe they should do and transmission computer update because it is horrible to drive in traffic. As for the navi/enfotainment center is horrible EVERY time Im driving it says unable to connect to phone and when it does it always is saying unable to update entune when there is no update. Hopefully Toyota fixes these issues because they are NOT acceptable. Especially for a new 2018 vehicle.
