After driving an great AWD Subaru for 8 years I made the decision to upgrade to a larger vehicle. My original plan was to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee with great styling, but after 8-9 months of research I found that almost all of the reviews of that vehicle were too scary to make an investment.I bought a 2008 SR5 used and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TRUCK! I have had it for 7 months now and, as my boyfriend says every time he gets in, "it drives like a cadillac". Quiet, smooth, and fun on the road. 22-24k a gallon highway. I've owned a Wrangler in the past, and it doesn't even compare to the ride of the 4runner. Absolutely the best investment I've ever made. I will keep it for as long as it drives!

Rear End Issues

This vehicle has issues with the rear end which Toyota will not address or repair. Coming to a stop often involves a thump and lurch. Our 4 Runner is 2009 over 100,000 miles and running well. This vehicle has had an issue with the driver's side door and the window. We are very dissatisfied with Toyota dealers and their service in Colorado and Louisiana.

Needs new transmission

Overall I think this 4runner is a good performing SUV. Handles good and everything works as promised except for the transmission. When I slow down for a turn or a stop sign, (while not coming to a complete stop) then step on the throttle the transmission hunts for a gear and the engine revs until the gear is found. This is very annoying because it happens all the time. The dealer says this is normal. If I would have experienced this during the test drive, I would never have bought this vehicle. I am going to suffer with this until the warranty is up then I will get something new. Normally I keep my cars close to 10 years like my previous 1999 4runner which I wish I still had.

Love, love my truck

I just bought my truck March 16, 2017, only 13 days of ownership. I absolutely love it so far. Great power and great ride. I traded 2013 Nissan, hated that car, awful power, 17 mpg. I also owned 2007 Grand Cherokee w/ hemi, really liked that suv but does not compare to my 4runner. Got very lucky, 2008 v8, leather only 68k miles. Only bad thing so far, the cup holders really are awful, the cup will wobble and almost fall over.

2008 4Runner V8 4X4

I bought it brand new and in a couple of months it will be 4 years old. 57K miles on it. I have never had a single mechanical issue with it. I put the front end leveling kit on it, and larger tires w/after market rims - but the engine is stock. My only complaint is the gas mileage! Even driving like an old lady, 95% highway mileage (it's my commuter car now) I only get 17 mpg. Friends that have the v6 said they get the same. Dealer says they will give me 22,500 if I trade it in (decided not to anyway) Great resale! Overall, am very happy with it!
