Just bought one
I bought in mid 2014, a 2005 Toyota 4runner v6 Sport edition. It had 67k miles on it and 2-3 previous owners. I absolutely love it. the biggest catch for me buying it was the mpg, as my previous car was a civic. in all honesty it gets decent mpg, my city is 18, and highway is an easy 24. just don't drive like an idiot and mpg's aren't too bad at all. the layout is great, super practical and simple. the back is big enough to sleep two and have room for gear. the engine is plenty powerful enough, although i can imagine a v8 being a bit stronger off the line. when i bought it I had to replace the alternator, and i did a 'seafoam' flush of the oil and gas. great machine, buy it!
67,000 mile review
After driving 4.5 years I figured I would write another review w/ reliability notes. Following service manual to a T and everything is running fine other than my sunroof which broke wide open at 55k mi with a $2400 replacement bill that I did not fix (just got it closed). Computer read out says I'm averaging 20.3 mpg but it's 10% off so actual is 18 mpg - reasonable for a body on frame SUV. Replaced tires at 40k from dealer oem's to Mich Cross Terrains - nice improvement. At 6'3", head and leg room are just adequate. 2 prong outlet is great, but only 1 12v is not. Front passenger space is small - friends ride knees up at 6'1". Good truck overall and would recommend to friends/family.

SR5 4WD V6
Shopped around. 4Runner may be the perfect SUV. Pretty sure it will climb vertical walls, leap tall buildings, etc. Built like a tank, but makes pleasant purring sounds when I put my foot in it to pass. 3rd row useless for adults, but great for occasional kid carting.
So far so good
Very nice ride with good handling, acceleration, comfort, smooth ride for body on frame solid rear axle vehicle. Won't let you forget its a truck, but that's what I bought it for. A little too much "gear picking" with v6 on steep grades. Engine has slight ticking sound (most Toyotas seem too, but disconcerting, probably timing chain instead of belt causes this) which is bothersome but engine runs fine. Have no real gripes, purchased the vehicle with just >30k miles and it feels like the brand new '07 model I test drove. I expect many more years out of this vehicle, although maintenance looks to be expensive. Wish v6 models had an external tranny cooler at least offered as an option.
TOYOTA QUALITY!! THE BEST REAL SUV!!!
The 4Runner is the best of the best in terms of a true off road SUV!! It has a super smooth ride and the styling is awesome. This is the best vehicle I've ever owned! I have just over 50K miles on it now and get 20+ MPG overall! Goes great in snow, sand, over large hills - and on the road! A must buy if you're looking for a great SUV!!!
