Good Little Car
I test drove almost every SUV made including the Navigator, Escalade, and Lexus. The XL-7 doesn't have the luxury of these SUVs but for the money, it surpassed all the others that we tried. It handles well and rides fairly comfortably, although the gas mileage could be better. Blind spots where the backseat headrests and the spare tire cover are can cause problems at times. All in all I've no problems with performance AND I've gotten quite a few compliments on the body style also. This would be a great business vehicle!
perfect
We have 4 children, ages 2-10 with one on the way.. My wife doesnt want to drive a tank, I dont want to pay for one... Our solution??? THE XL-7.. The interior is perfect for our family. It seats all of us comfortably without making us feel like we should be paid $0.36 a mile and be home on weekends. It came with all the features we wanted, 4 wheel drive, pwr windows, locks, mirrors, and numerous cupholders. The engine pulls strongly all the way to the redline..

Awesome value!
My wife and I bought a brand new 04 XL7 EX3 fully loaded to haul our 2 kids around. All I can say is that I'm surprised that it offered the same things as the Honda Pilot! Plus, the interior design is nicer, there's standard wood trim, and the leather is softer too. 185HP isn't a lot in the midsize class, but if you need basic transportation and don't need to tow you're absolutely fine. We recently took a 200 mile trip with our kids and a crowded trunk with luggage on the rooftop and I can safely say this car never ran out of breath. I'm glad I found Suzuki!
Seeing problem at 34000 miles
Loved the car but starting to have problems oil leaks around timing chain. And fuel leaks drealer fixxed with no problem. They also replace drive leather set covering. 4 years old and problems started. I've pruchase qite a few new cars in my 60 yrs. I usually keep them for 6 yrs with usualy no motor leaks till the 6 year.
LOVE IT!
The Suzuki XL-7 is the perfect mid size SUV for moms who don't want a BIG SUV or the expensive gas bill! It is kid friendly and easy to maintain! It's comfortable on long trips! I suggest the third seat option, just in case you need it! :) This truck has great storage and gets great gas mileage!
8 years and 38K miles later - XL-7 still runs great!
It's June 2012, 8 years and 38K miles after we purchased our XL-7, and it still runs great! It handles well and rides fairly comfortably, although the gas mileage could be better. Blind spots where the backseat headrests and the spare tire cover are can cause problems at times.
best suv for the money
We owned a 2003 lxiii 2 wheel drive and traded for the 04 4 wd and the difference is noticable. Seems to have better handling and the ABS brakes are a plus. Great interior and better fuel economy thanks to the new 5 speed automatic. keep up the good work Suzuki;-)
suzuki,1
i have owned 2 suzuki's, grand vitara and now a xl-7, i love both of them, they are fun to drive and very dependable. great little cars!
my XL-7
i purchase it in janurary of 2004 and have 12000 miles on it i'm very pleased with the suv and am thrilled to drive it on long road trips. i enjoy the roomness of the three rows of seat. i also like the idea of folding the seat down when i'm making a trip to be able to lay out fully in the back. i bring a blanket and pillow and take a nap will on the highway. i also love the rear a/c that allows the passangers to conrtol how much a/c they want. i've taken several trip's from new orleans to nashville and dallas and have est. 24 miles to the gallon. i researced this suv against outher's like the kia , hynudia, toyota and rear a/c is optional .
XL-7 good stuff
Inside and outside of the 2004 XL-7 is beautiful.Well done wood grain dash and lighting. The heated seats are great and the sound system is the best in class. This SUV is fun to drive and a ride that is as good or better than most large size SUV.The XL-7 V6 motor has great power for it size. When you need to pass someone just steep on the gas pedal and hang on for the ride.
In tribute to my workhorse
I usually just do reviews of newer cars or previous cars I've owned but I haven't really done one on the best car I ever owned, which is this 2004 Suzuki XL7. I bought it brand new in 2004 and thought paying $30,000 (after financing) was a lot for a vehicle back then, but it's more than paid for itself after 15 years of ownership and almost 280,000 miles later. The only major problems I've had with it are the power steering rack which developed leaks that I had to repair twice, rear wheel bearings which was a quick repair, and had to get the AC serviced. I've done the oil changes myself for most of its life and even replaced the radiator myself, fairly simple jobs for a DIYer, I wouldn't let a dealership shop near it if at all possible. But it's still on its original engine and transmission, and I haven't changed the differential fluid since 100,000 miles because I thought it wouldn't last too much longer than that, but it's gone almost another 180,000 miles! But alas it's getting tired and the engine valve covers and oil pan gaskets are now leaking, and there's a tiny exhaust leak. I just fill it with oil periodically and it's still going, and I suppose I can put in some money for it to replace all the gaskets, get the exhaust fixed as well as the alternator pulley which is starting to wobble, but not sure if it's worth extending the car anymore, as it's seemingly fulfilled its useful purpose being the family mover for 15 years, taking it cross-country many times in between, but now just put out to semi-pasture for short drives as a spare car. If I can see a newer one with less mileage, I may consider it, or just put in the repairs to see if I can get it to 300,000 miles as it's oh so close. But it's been a great car, too bad they don't make them like this anymore, a true Suzuki vehicle before GM got involved in its redesign in 2005, so I would stick to 2000-2004 models if you're going to think about getting one used even if it has over 100,000 miles as long as it's well maintained, it's a great vehicle.

Durable but Needs to have a Better Ride
I enjoy driving my XL-7 around town but do not like taking it on long trips due to the rough ride. The ride is very bumpy and uncomfortable. I read that the '07 model will have a smoother ride. If that's the case I wouldn't hesitate to consider purchasing one. The price and warranty are good. Its reliability is good. I have not had any problems.
NO Regrets
Never considered a Suzuki until I test drove a friend's. Couldn't believe the ride & creature comforts. Suzuki bent over backwards to to give the most for your money. My wife & I were looking at Rav 4 & Highlander but to get it equipped the way the Suzuki was equipped would've bumped the price well up into the mid 30's. The choice of Suzuki was a no brainer.
I Like My XL-7
My 2004 Suzuki XL-7 has been a reliable and fun to drive truck. 3The 3rd row seats are not particularly roomy, but serve the purpose when we need to carry a few more kids. Its ride is a little harsh, but not jolting, and this is an "SUV". It handles and rides much better than most of the big truck-based SUVs I've driven. My milage was a little less than I had expected, but still better than most trucks. I suppose that the aerodynamics play a part in that.
2004 XL-7
We have owned our Suzuki XL-7 for 1 1/2 years. The reason I bought it was the warranty, the design, and the trade in deal they gave me. It feels very solid and handles well, I am 6 feet tall and there is a lot of headroom. I think the XL-7 could be a bit longer, but it is adeqaute with smaller kids. We have the 3rd row seat which is very tight. If the SUV was a foot longer the 3rd row would be a bit more pratical. We bought out XL-7 with 6,000 miles on it for $20000, $15,000 with our trade. The dealer gave me $5,000 for a 1994 Ford Explorer Limited with 99,000 miles on it. My wife likes the size of the XL-7 and finds it easy to navigate. She feels safe driving in snow with the 4WD.
Check It Out
The Suzuki XL-7 is a great SUV. It would be much better though if they offered more power and towing capacity. the 2.7 liter engine is too weak.
Suzuki XL-7
This vehicle needs a wider wheel base and extended flaps on visors to block drivers eyes from sun only. Everything else is great. Maybe a back door that opens away from curb rather then to the curb. The handling is sweet, likes its on clouds. The headlights are remarkably bright. No DVD player tho for the wife n kids??? Honda Odessy has one up on you. Ever consider getting rid of the "7 passenger" title to make more leg room and rear storage?? try it, you might be surprised.
GREAT SUZUKI
Excellent, great and gas millage any problems till today, after all this year's changes:batterie, oil, breaks. I save a lot w/ my Suzuki.

I love it!
I love this SUV! I've had it a year and I still enjoy it. The only thing I dislike about it is the rear door. If someone parks to close to you, you can't open it, as it swings out instead of up.
Owning a XL 7
I have had so many compliments on this Vehicle, hour nice looking it is how sharp it looks, the sound system, the price etc. I thought driving a SUV would be like driving a bus, however it is easy to handle and has a smooth ride. I am very happy with the vehicle.
confort car
we rented a similar car for our trip to San diego, a we loved it, after a few month we decided to buy a new xl7 4x4.
the best
excellent and all encompassing
Most for my money
I have not had to take my Suzuiki back to the dealer since the day I drove it off the lot. I love the v-6 engine and the ample cargo space. My only regret is not paying a little more for the optional 3rd row seat and rear a/c...the truck's standard a/c can barely keep up on hot summer days.
My experience with my XL7
The vehicle is peppy and fun to drive it turns well and handles like a sport car. the suspension is solid and feels tough the transmission is smooth and quick. Great car great price!
Okay But Needs Improvement
As midsize SUVs go the Suzuki XL7 is a bargain. Mine stickered for almost $23,000 but with discounts got it for only $17K. Considering you get automatic temperature control air conditioning, CD player, cruise control, and antilock brakes in the deal that's not too bad. I've put 11,000 miles on it and have had no problems. The build quality is quite good and the doors sound solid when you shut them. The driving position is comfortable and it performs reasonably well except in high winds. The gas mileage is much worse than I would have expected in a 6 cylinder midsize SUV, and the engine could use more power.
Suzukis are bulletproof
This is my fifth Suzuki. They are bulletproof. Very high reliability, conservative engineering, excellent fuel economy. The XL-7 is geared a bit low, so I fitted the biggest Michelin tires that would fit in the wheel wells, making the gearing "taller" by about 5%. The car still clims the 6% grade between 6000 and 7000 feet on the east side of Donner Pass in 5th gear.
Suzuki
Excellant SUV in every respect
Out of 19 SUV's this is the one.
After reviewing and test driving 19 Midsize SUV's and owning Luxury SUV's for the last 5 years we can the conclusion the Suzuki is by far the best value in the market. Dimensions similar if not larger than Jeep's Grand Cherokee. Fuel economy at 22mpg hwy (24 observed). Luxury features in the EX with a True 4wd system on a truck frame with a car like ride all for $25k LOADED make this one choice you must look into. Pound for pound or dollar for dollar you will not find another vehicle that comes close. Rear leg room is actually better than specifications show, nearly 40" with a 5'10" driver.
Suzuki XL-7
For the price this is a lot of truck. The interior has tons of room, it is a 4 x 4 with a V6 and it is attractive to look at it.
Amazing Value and Reliability
Bought my first Suzuki 4X4 SUV in 1989 and every few years, look at the marketplace to see if I can fine a better value coupled with reliabilty. I can't!! Drove my 2003 4X4 XL7 from Florida to Alaska, packed full of our stuff and pulling the biggest U-Haul trailer I could get. Flawless! Not a problem! Did the Alaska winter with 8 Feet of snow. Again...perfect performance. Let the Hummer owners pay twice as much for half the reliabilty and performance. Idiots!! Lose your ego and go Suzuki. Wife drives the 2003 XL7 and I drive a 1993 Sidekick 4X4. I guess I'm hooked. Money saved bought our Cessna!
Great SUV for the value!
After having driven many midsize SUV's, it became very clear for the cost, warranty and standard equipment, this was the car. You can pay thousands more and look no better than you will in this vehicle. The vision or view of the road in the XL7 is very good. The seating is firm, but very comfortable, especially on longer trips. Power equipment and accessories are standard features. Handling, road noise and cabin comfort are as good as those costing thousands more. Did I mention a great warranty?
Suzuki
This SUV is a great deal for the price. We purchased ours in August 2003 and have enjoyed every minute of it! It is dependable and such an attractive vehicle.
Love
For the price there is non better. Has pleanty of nice options and goo dlooking interior. Drives well on the freeway.
'02 XL7
I have a '02, not a '03. Handles great. My last two SUV's were Jeep Grand Cherokees. Jeep obviously roomier but XL7 handles much better and fun to drive.
Excellent
I just feel really great when I am driving my XL7
Best SUV for the money
The 04 XL7 is the best vehicle that I have ever purchased. I saw a loss- leader ad in the newspaper and decided to check it out. The 04 XL7 were on sale for 17,900. The dealer honored it and I got some fantastic financing and drove home with my new car. Since my insurance co considers a XL7 as a station wagon, my premium dropped by $400. I couldn't be happier.
Rough ride
Very disappointed with the ride, feels like I am riding in a wagon. You feel every bump in the road, even went as far as lowering air pressure in tires. Love everthing else about it.Maybe I should have bought a car.
Quite a bang for your buck
I owned a 2001 XL-7 and traded it in when I saw the 2004 XL-7. Very nice updates to the interior. The leather seats are very comfortable and of good quality and Suzuki has done a nice job of moving the placement of the radio, A/C controls to give the inside a better look and feel to it. Fully loaded my cost was just under $26,000. $26,000 for a fully loaded 4WD SUV with heated leather seats, CD-changer, power sunroof, power windows and locks is a steal. Other SUV's with those features will cost you $10,000 more easily. At $26,000 you can't beat what you get from the XL-7.
Nice, reliable SUV. Lots of space.
Nice, reliable SUV. Lots of space. My wife pushed for it, and I got a pleasant surprise. Highly recommended if you you look for space and your budget is tight.
Finally an affordable 7 passenger SUV
If you have a family with younger children , this is the SUV for you. You can seat 2 adults and 5 kids in this one. The leather seats (ex III 2wd) are a breeze to clean. Gas mileage is reasonable compared to other 7 passenger SUV's. Do not spend 30 or 40 thousand on a 7 passenger SUV/minivan without checking out the XL-7 first (especially if you have kids).
XL7 Touring
Excellent overall. Good power and mileage. We use it for touring, back road 4wd. It is towed behind our motorhome. Off road and on road, it is easy to handle. We are amazed at where we have taken it in 4wd.A truly great all round suv. Will buy another when this one is several years old. Reliability is unsurpassed as is the quality. An excellent buy.
My Experience in a Suzuki
We as a family drive Saabs and we wanted to make sure we had a deep snow vehicle. We were very impressed with the ride and handling after looking at several other vehicles we felt for the Money this was our best choice.
My Suzuki
even though i just got it, it is fun to drive and i feel very safe in it love the 4WD
This SUV is sweet!
I was considering the Santa Fe, then I had eyes on the Highlander but for $5,000 less, beautiful cloth interior, (Highlander's cloth interior was cheap- looking)nice, smooth, quiet test drive, I was very impressed with this SUV. I was also able to get the dealer to go with their listed internet price and purchased this SUV for less than it originally was listed for - it pays to do your homework. If you want a nice, reliable, roomy SUV, test drive the XL- 7 and you too, will be impressed!
Awesome!
Wow, with 4 children was looking for a smaller SUV that would hold seven. Not many choices on the market. Looked at the Escape and CRV. Dollar for dollar, glad I choose the XL-7 w/ the trird row seat. I love it as well as the kids. Am commented by others how great it looks. Love the drive as well as the mpg. No regrets and highly recomend.
happy with it !
Love the truck. I traded my van and I like the move. Love the dash and the wood panel. The auto A/C is nice to have plus the rear A/C is nice to keep control
You can not find a better value in a SUV
I actually did not plan on buying this vehicle when I visited the dealership. I sat in one on the showroom floor and was amazed. Our other vehicle is a 2003 Ford Explorer Limited and for a mere $9000 less the XL-7 blows it away. The only option missing is power seats. Fuel economy is a little lower on the highway than rated but most of my travel is above 70 mph. Overall it is a quiet smooth ride. There are no options on the EX version, everything is standard.
my second suzuki
I traded a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara for a 2004 XL-7 Limited 2WD in Dec. 2003. The '99 was trouble free and very reliable and I have no reason to beleive that the 2004 will be any different. The ride is very quiet with no road noise, a killer stereo system, comfortable leather seats, a beautiful dash with wood grained accents and the feel is like I'm driving something much more expensive. I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a mid size suv to look at and test drive the Suzuki. I think that they will be pleasantly surprised at the amount of vehicle for the money.
Super SUV
This is my first Suzuki, I previously owned '97 Mercury Mountaineer and was looking for a newer Mountaineer when I saw a Red '04 XL-7 in the mall concourse. I had to walk around it several times, it was so sharp looking. Several months later my husband saw the "Route 66" commercial & suggested I look at the Suzuki's. It was like he was reading my mind. Drove one the next day and picked mine up the folling day. I love it!!
Great Deal on a 2004 XL-7 in the Calif.
We origianlly were going to buy a new 2003 xl-7 because of the 2000 rebate. with loan in hand at 4.89% and knowing we could get the 2003 model for 21,000 after rebate on carsdirect.com. We went to Green Valley Ford Suzuki in Fairfield California(Bay Area). We got a 2004 brand new for 20995 which is unheard of. They also matched our loan and got it at 3.99% Has all electric, cd with subwoofer and tweeters, rear air, seats 7 , mats, allow wheels, automatic w/overdrive, woodgrain interior, heated mirrors, keyless entry, and the 2004 models have a new clear tailights and a hard case for the rear tire.
