Used 2015 Subaru Legacy Consumer Reviews
Car with problems
During our New England winter months, it takes up to 20 minutes of driving to reach my engine's "normal" operating temperature. At that point, the engine oil temperature is about 150 deg. F. During the summer months, the engine warm up period is reduced to 5 to 8 minutes. Subaru dealer claims that this is normal and there are no problems with the thermostat. My 18 years old Forester will reach the operating temperature within 5 minutes even during the winter months. This car has also some other problems - road noise is very high, front wheel bearing replaced at 29000 miles, rear detecrion indicator radar unit replaced at 33000 miles, trunk liner was poorly fitted and replaced-making the road noise even higher than before. Stitching on the rear leather seat is not perfect, gas filler door was installed off-center and would not open - replaced by the dealer. One potentionaly more serious problem is a gradual loss of coolant fluid. Every 6000 miles the coolant fluid (approx. 2 oz.) needs to be added. Dealer claims that the cooling system is working properly. At 60,000 mile service, second wheel bearing replaced. They must be using cheep Chinese bearings.

My First Subaru, Impressed So Far
I bought the car for the Eyesight technology. I wanted the safest car I could afford, and if all goes well with reliability, this will be the car my son learns to drive on in 8 or 9 years. I am having a problem with the gas cap cover. It won't release even when I pull the lever multiple times. I have to have someone outside pushing down on it at the same time I'm pulling on the interior lever. Apparently this is a common problem and I'm on a waiting list with the Dealer for parts to fix it. The CVT takes some getting used to, and seems a bit rough on super-cold mornings. But overall, the car feels very solid and high-quality. Visibility is great, and handling is nice (but take that with a grain of salt, my last car was a Honda CRV). Lots of rear leg room for a growing kid and his friends. Huge trunk. I personally get great gas mileage. So far it's a lifetime 32 mpg, and I'd say I do 70% city and 30% highway driving these days. Update: one year in and it's still great. Still good mileage. Very happy with the purchase.

Second windshield under 9,000 miles
At about 5,000 miles we had one crack on the lower right corner below where the wipers sit. There was no starring initially. They insisted it's a rock chip, that was in July. Had a second large crack in Oct 2015 top left in front of driver, again no starring. That's 2 windshields on a car with less than 9,000 miles. It's got to be the glass. There are NO large chips, the windshields just crack easily in my opinion. Probably an indicator that you will have frequent replacements.

We still love our legacy after 18000 miles!
Updating our prior review since we logged on about 18000 plus miles on our car. At about 5000 miles, we had an issue with the gas cap - it was difficult to open the remote release. We brought it to our dealer and they tried to adjust the release. It still would get stuck so we called and brought the vehicle back to the dealer. They replaced the unit and it works beautifully now. Otherwise, no other issues, not even a rattle! We have driven this car on 3 separate long distance out of state trips and love the engine response when we are passing other vehicles or going uphill. What a joy to drive! It's very comfortable and we love the dual air condition zone since my wife enjoys the Siberian temperature (around 66 degrees) and I prefer the normal 70 degrees. We averaged around 25 mpg during our trips. We encountered snow and ice during one of our earlier trips which was not a problem at all. Our latest trip we had heavy rain and the car drove very well in both conditions. Love the large map and we find the eyesight and blind spot feature so useful. We are considering buying a car for our son and definitely getting a Subaru; whether we get the 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder, I'm sure our son will be extremely happy. I highly recommend the Legacy.

1st time Subaru owner
after driving the car for over 5 years I have the following concerns: the road noise was much worse than I realized. no heated steering wheel the voice commands do not work well ie. calling people the blind spot detection works a little too well, it not only picks up cars in the blind spot but also significantly behind the blind spot when it is safe to switch lanes. the electronics freezes never needed any repairs other than routine brakes after 85Kmiles it is now close to 95K miles and still no need for anything other than routine maintenance. of note the engine runs hot and I always have to had more oil before the next scheduled oil change. at 119K my daughter totaled the car :( it was in great working condition and could have lasted another 119K!!! it will be missed
