Love my 15 Legacy Limited

It's a great car if you live in places where there's lot of snow and ice, which was one of my primary reasons for getting an AWD car. The fuel economy suffers from the all wheel drive, but that's to be expected, and frankly I can't complain since it still beats the heck out of any SUV or truck in gas milage. This last year I've gotten between 25-35 average mpg, depending on the outside temperature. Lower extreme temperatures in the negative you get lower gas mileage. Car handles great on roads my old FWD sedan would never have made it through. Routinely drove it in 3-6" of snow and blowing snow on the road and had few problems except having to kick some of the snow out of the wheel well on long snowpacked road trips through the Dakotas. Point and drive and let the AWD system do what it's good at, with a little common sense applied. Was able to get it out of its parking spot in over a foot of snow with minimal shoveling to get in the vehicle. I bought mine certified used, and have to say I wasn't too happy with some of the trouble I had out of the gate - two serious defects that were known and covered under warranty were not fixed before purchase at my original dealership in the Twin Cities. These included a computer chip in the engine where the relay would get frost on it in extreme temperatures and cause the engine to fail to start. Switching out the chip for the recall replacement solved this issue permanently but it was annoying at first because I would have to keep it running when out or risk being stuck. The other was that the electronic parking brake issue had not been replaced which could have caused major repairs if it had engaged. My maintenance dealership in Bismarck has been great about helping me out with these issues, and they offered to send someone out to fix it for me with the original issue. When I asked if they could walk me through a temporary fix just to get it moving, they were glad to help with that as well since everyplace is so spread out here. Moral of the lesson: Make sure that all of the recalls for the 2015 redesign have been addressed when you buy yours. After these issues, this car has been an amazing piece of machinery. Engine and transmission have not caused any issues and shifting has been satisfactory. It's not a race car; acceleration is relatively slow, but it is a reliable vehicle and will get you places when the weather gets ugly. Complaints about CVT have been far overblown in my opinion, with shifting being more than satisfactory as my daily driver. The onboard computer comes with a large touch screen which makes entertainment selection easy. The 12 speaker surround sound makes me pretty happy especially considering how picky I am about my lossless music to begin with. Long trips are pretty easy to deal with in this car. Lots of room inside, seats are comfortable, and can be heated in the front and in the back with independent controls for passengers and back seat occupants. Dual control climate isn't something I was particularly interested in, but it's there and seems to work fine. Voice activated controls are a little picky and can do the wrong thing occasionally, esp. if the fan is running, but I like to change things manually anyway as voice control in general takes too long in any vehicle. Nice little gimmick to impress your friends with, though! Trunk is spacious and lots of room for groceries and luggage. Outside design is in my opinion stylish and the rims that come with the limited edition look spiffy. I get lots of complements on my car from friends and strangers alike! If I were to go back in time to when I was shopping for cars, I would still buy my 15 legacy again.

My First Subaru, Impressed So Far

I bought the car for the Eyesight technology. I wanted the safest car I could afford, and if all goes well with reliability, this will be the car my son learns to drive on in 8 or 9 years. I am having a problem with the gas cap cover. It won't release even when I pull the lever multiple times. I have to have someone outside pushing down on it at the same time I'm pulling on the interior lever. Apparently this is a common problem and I'm on a waiting list with the Dealer for parts to fix it. The CVT takes some getting used to, and seems a bit rough on super-cold mornings. But overall, the car feels very solid and high-quality. Visibility is great, and handling is nice (but take that with a grain of salt, my last car was a Honda CRV). Lots of rear leg room for a growing kid and his friends. Huge trunk. I personally get great gas mileage. So far it's a lifetime 32 mpg, and I'd say I do 70% city and 30% highway driving these days. Update: one year in and it's still great. Still good mileage. Very happy with the purchase.

Second windshield under 9,000 miles

At about 5,000 miles we had one crack on the lower right corner below where the wipers sit. There was no starring initially. They insisted it's a rock chip, that was in July. Had a second large crack in Oct 2015 top left in front of driver, again no starring. That's 2 windshields on a car with less than 9,000 miles. It's got to be the glass. There are NO large chips, the windshields just crack easily in my opinion. Probably an indicator that you will have frequent replacements.

We still love our legacy after 18000 miles!

Updating our prior review since we logged on about 18000 plus miles on our car. At about 5000 miles, we had an issue with the gas cap - it was difficult to open the remote release. We brought it to our dealer and they tried to adjust the release. It still would get stuck so we called and brought the vehicle back to the dealer. They replaced the unit and it works beautifully now. Otherwise, no other issues, not even a rattle! We have driven this car on 3 separate long distance out of state trips and love the engine response when we are passing other vehicles or going uphill. What a joy to drive! It's very comfortable and we love the dual air condition zone since my wife enjoys the Siberian temperature (around 66 degrees) and I prefer the normal 70 degrees. We averaged around 25 mpg during our trips. We encountered snow and ice during one of our earlier trips which was not a problem at all. Our latest trip we had heavy rain and the car drove very well in both conditions. Love the large map and we find the eyesight and blind spot feature so useful. We are considering buying a car for our son and definitely getting a Subaru; whether we get the 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder, I'm sure our son will be extremely happy. I highly recommend the Legacy.

after driving the car for over 5 years I have the following concerns: the road noise was much worse than I realized. no heated steering wheel the voice commands do not work well ie. calling people the blind spot detection works a little too well, it not only picks up cars in the blind spot but also significantly behind the blind spot when it is safe to switch lanes. the electronics freezes never needed any repairs other than routine brakes after 85Kmiles it is now close to 95K miles and still no need for anything other than routine maintenance. of note the engine runs hot and I always have to had more oil before the next scheduled oil change. at 119K my daughter totaled the car :( it was in great working condition and could have lasted another 119K!!! it will be missed
