Software issues

Be wise!!! Make sure you speak with actual Taycan owners before you buy. This is the inaugural year and there’s been nothing but problems. My car has been in the service garage almost 1/2 of the time I’ve owned it. SOFTWARE issues is all I hear when I inquire as I continue to make my monthly payments without having my car. My brakes failed because of a software issue, my charger overheated because of the “major” software issue and my car slammed I’m the brakes on its own because the sensor “thought” it saw on oncoming vehicle. This has been a resentful and extremely disappointing purchase. If you’ve ever had your car broken into, you’ll understand the feeling on complete violation of personal property and space! This is exactly how I feel about this vehicle even if they “fix” it and return it to me. Porsche has responded to me with “we’re looking into this matter and will reach out shortly”... as I am without a $175,000.00 Taycan Turbo which I just bought 5 months ago and is sitting at the dealership.

Worst software and car support

Scotty, 02/23/2021

From day 1 the software on the car has failed to work properly. Porsche technicians and dealers are clueless regarding how to remedy the OTA, control module malfunctions. Porsche North America has very poor support. The car itself drives and handles great but the PCM and software features are a continuous problem. When the software and interface do not come close to the reliability and features of an IPAD I would not recommend buying this car.

I’ve had my Taycan turbo for 12 months. Worse car ownership ever. Now needs main battery replacement. They can’t give me an ETA for delivery of the part. Continuous software issues, rattles, error messages. Porsche support awful. Continue to ship new cars knowing there are major faults. Check current owners many having similar issues

Climate change compelled me to sell my beloved e90 M3 and get a Taycan. I've been very happy with it in my first year, with several family roadtrips with young children in the rear view mirror. It's not a sports car, but the Taycan has fantastic handling, a stellar interior, and comfortably accommodates two car seats for a family of four. It's lovely to drive around the city and highways. Highway driving feels like floating through the countryside in a silent bubble. The normal mode soaks up the bumps well, even in the broken streets of Boston, and the sport mode crispens the ride considerably and makes it fun on canyon and mountain roads. In the summer, I'm getting as much as 260-280 miles of range on a single charge. In the winter, it's more like 200. Charging at level 3 Electrify America systems has made road trips very easy. The car is mostly charged in about 20-30 minutes if you can find the 300 level charger. The Porsche app is garbage, though, so sometimes you have to pay out of pocket even with the "free" charging for the first 3 years. At home, we have a chargepoint, which has been fantastic and I can charge it to about half full at work for $1. In total I'd say that I pay about $30 a month for electricity and that's it on top of car payments. The only real downsides of the car are the infotainment system, which always has trouble connecting to my phone, and the ridiculous pricing that Porsche uses. I've given up on using the Porsche technology system with bluetooth and just use apple car play, but even connecting to my phone can take up to 5 minutes. It usually takes about a minute or two. Not great for a car starting at around $100K. My wife's five year old 3 series has better technology. The other aggravating issue is that Porsche does not include as standard features that are installed in every $50K Honda or Kia. A heads up display or folding mirrors. Another minor peeve is that the trunk makes the most annoying sound ever when it's opening or closing. Totally unnecessary. In short, it's a fantastic car if you love cars. My main regret about the car is not getting it in a more fun color. If you don't love cars, then I'd save money and get something else.

Electric Dream Machine

Chris Gervais, 08/23/2020
2020 Porsche Taycan 4S 4dr Sedan AWD (electric 2AM)

I’ve had my Taycan for over a month and continue to be impressed with almost every aspect of the car. The performance is phenomenal and the instant torque is completely addictive, especially at speed. The design is absolutely stunning and it’s truly one of those cars where the pictures don’t do it justice — there’s so many little details that the car really deserves to be seen up close. Like the 911, the Taycan is almost all compound curves that flow beautifully around the car. Interior fit and finish is definitely top-of-the-line. If you’re a fan of physical buttons the all digital control surfaces will take some getting used to. The Porsche Communications Management (PCM) system on the Taycan is brand-new and is still a work-in-progress — the system still has some glitches and performance issues. From a range perspective, I’ve been more that impressed only because the EPA ratings were so low. I’ve regularly traveled 30-40% further than what the sticker says. You can easily get 270 miles on a full charge (I’m on 20” Turbo Aero wheels with all-season Continental tires) and charging at home has been a revelation. That said, I’m charging my car about once-a-week, and even then the car is usually around 35% state of charge (SoC). Of course, depending on your situation with your commute and COVID-19, you might not be driving much, so you may need to charge even less. Overall, it’s a Porsche: beautiful, extraordinarily solid and well-built, fast, and pricey.

Unbelievably sexy and smooth

I stopped in to test drive a Panamara Hybrid never thinking I'd consider an all electric car but in the back of my mind I preferred the Taycan styling. So the dealer convinced my to give it a whirl. The sensuous faux sound was terrific and it felt like a rocket ship taking off. It was a very new driving experience . Now, I can't consider anything other than electric. It was like discovering chocolate for the first time and realizing you are addicted. I was instantly sold on this 4s model with the performance battery and 21" wheels. A friend recently purchased the Tesla model Y and she loves it! Says it's way more powerful than a Panamara. I just cant get excited about any of the Tesla model styling. So despite the fact that it sounds like it has more milage to a single charge, may be more spacious and promises a fully autonomous package in the near future, I like Porche's extended history with electric cars and a probable chance that I could get a quick repair on a Porche in the event it ever needs one. Two years ago on a blog, I've heard a nightmare story of one family needing a Tesla repair and it took 8 months for the part so it was inoperable that whole duration. Tesla did not comp a car. Not sure how expeditiously Tesla has turn around time for repairs now but that story left me cautious. I'm planning on leasing a 4s and look forward to seeing Porche boost the milage capacity and perhaps the eventual autonomous feature as well. Expensive, yes but if you're looking for a luxury experience, the Taycan is sure to impress. I took off a star based on the mileage capacity being sort of dramatic between the Tesla and not seeing any info in the autonomous feature in the near future, otherwise the drive is surreal.

We put a deposit down in 2017, and have eagerly anticipated this remarkable vehicle. We’ve been driving our 4S. for about ten days, and all I can say is we will never go back to an internal combustion engine — and we won’t miss subsidizing the petrodollar economy either. Whisper-quiet, with handling an acceleration like no other car you have ever driven. Unfortunately, the Porsche Connect software is a disaster, but fortunately one can use the car just fine without it.

I own 2 of Taycan S. The interior is outstanding and compared to other comparable electric cars the value I have to give 5 *****. I see some of the other reviews and they could not give a higher rating for interior. Compare it to Tesla and Taycan is 10 stars in comparison. Value, you get what you pay for. The ride is so smooth the comfort is like no other. You have to drive it to appreciate the quality.

Love at first sight as the dealer drove our Taycan onto the showroom floor the day it was delivered. We’d custom ordered what we wanted to see in the car months before, so it was like a Birthday once it appeared before us. It’s simply beautiful. We have been extremely pleased w the Performance Plus package that we added and the driving experience has taken awesome to a whole new level.

The car drives like a dream, torque is instant and the interior is best in class. With a 220V charger at home, it takes roughly 6 hours to get a while charge which is great. However, the infotainment system could be more intuitive.

Bought a 2022 Taycan. It is rarely used but had a recall for a software update. Taken to dealer. Dealer warned that the software updates routinely fail and have to be re-started so anticipate at least three days. After 4 days and a call, Porsche said that during the update the car went " to sleep". They indicated that they had no idea what the problem was or how to fix it and they were " at the mercy" of Porsche technicians. They further warned that since it was Christmas time they didn't expect to hear from Porsche technicians. Two days later they called and said it was the rear control module. Note: Nothing was wrong with the vehicle when it was taken in for the update. Now waiting for parts that they can't give an estimate on. Bottom line, too early to buy an EV from Porsche. Too many bugs and no system for resolution. Hoping the issues last longer than 30 days so the Lemon Law is triggered and I can get my money back

Too many rattles

This is a beautiful car and like all Porsche models the engineering is phenomenal. But our new Taycan has a few very annoying rattles that don't seem to be going away and we even have some new ones now that we're at about 1,000 miles. The rattles are coming from various points on the interior. Basically, Porsche put a ton of effort into all of the mechanicals that make the car fantastic to drive but the integrity of the interior is not good. I'm not sure our dealer will be helpful or if there's anything they can do about all of the annoying rattles so we might be stuck with this car. We'll definitely look to get rid of it and will lose a lot of money, never to return to the Porsche brand. This is our 5th Porsche vehicle and we always thought we would have a Porsche but this hasn't been a good experience so it will be our last.

The car is exceptionally smooth and quiet. Acceleration is exhilarating (and mine is the slowest Taycan!). Vehicle electronics are a work in progress - but are constantly updated. A GREAT grand touring vehicle and a fun car. My range (on the small battery!) has been a pleasant surprise (250 mile +). The vehicle was really a great value (and received $7500 back from Feds). Now price has gone up and $7500 is going away..so may not be a "great value" - but still a nice car.

I’ve owned 2 Porches: 911 Turbo S and Macan S. Love the engineering, craftsmanship, handling, speed and design. Battery needs improvement, needs height adjustment to eliminate scraping the road, too many electronic safety devices that are useless, not enough creature comforts (vs Mercedes), Launch pad is totally useless/impractical toy.

I'm giving this one star I expected more from Porsche. So today I picked up this car they've been unable to get streaming music to work they actually admit they don't have an answer. I bought the top of the line Turbo S.. The most disappointing car as far as interior electronics is concerned. And for Porsche not to even be attempting to fix this is also a disgrace. If you search the internet you'll find out this is going on since the release of the vehicle in 2020. My advice buy a Tesla

The Taycan is an absolute nightmare. Mine was in the shop for 3 months this summer! Within days of getting it back, the AC stopped working and it’s now back in the shop indefinitely. Porsche’s customer service has been a complete let down all the way from the top, down to the local dealership in Clearwater, Florida. I’m paying almost $2k a month for a car I can’t even drive. Porsche doesn’t care about quality or customer satisfaction anymore.

Prepare to witness the automotive equivalent of a tone-deaf kazoo solo - the Porsche Taycan's backup camera. This isn't just bad, it's an insult to potatoes used for battery production. It's the visual equivalent of trying to park using smell alone, and with roughly the same success rate. The person who designed the camera was vision impaired. It's an optical migrane. Don't believe me go check it out.

If you have never had an electric car before, I can understand why people think the Taycan is amazing. However, it isn't and I now have one and also a Tesla 3 performance and previously a Tesla Model S The car is flawed in the key areas which you need - totally flawed !! To be balanced, here are the good bits: - exceptional build quality - exceptional driving feel The OK Bits - performance is ok - I have a 4 S with the larger battery but not in Tesla Class The Horrible Bits and the Most important and Porsche don't tell you this. -in the UK the charging network is awful and if you use your car alot, frankly the car is not fit for purpose - why: - charging at home on a 7kw chargers (most people at 32v) it struggles to put in more than 0.3miles per minute - that is less than half for a tesla on the same charger - it means that its 12 hours to put in 200 miles of charge compared with 6 hours for a tesla to do the same thing (not only twice as long but also twice as expensive !) -porsche had no idea this was the case OR they did and just want to hide it from customers - practically using anything other than IONITY (of which there arent many) means charging is not practical unless you have 6 hours to spare !!!!!! - the functionality of the profiles and timers is awful - the guidance is awful and the porsche sales staff dont have a clue. They rely on you tube videos from customers as I have to - for a £115k car that is frankly dreadful Would i buy one - for build quality yes, for value for money no. For practicality absolutely not. I have just ordered my Plaid Plus with 500 miles of charge - I'll sacrifice the build quality for the most important thing with an EV, range and charging speed (and not performance)

If you love to drive, safely, swiftly and a Porsche this is your type of car. Welcome to the future. The car has no exhaust pollutants inhibitors, which is a plus to be apart of a consumer that gets an exhilarating experience while not harming the earth 🌍. It’s a win-win for human beings and nature. The car has two trunks, ever digital capacity you’d expect from a Porsche. It’s like having your phone’s screen in your car essentially same character. You can have an electrical line added for more increased power to give you 200 miles within 20mins. Same as you would with a gas vehicle, don’t push it to close fill-up when you have time, especially as you rest. Get up jump in the Taycan and love the ride. Hope you get one, enjoy.

Acceleration on this vehicle is absolutely phenomenal but you must have the carbon ceramic brakes and the rear wheel steering. Unfortunately mine did not and the brakes did not function properly like another reviewers vehicle and it crashed and was totaled. When going into a turn the vehicle tried to do all the braking using the regenerative braking feature and never engage the mechanical disk brakes.

It’s hard not to talk in superlatives when describing my 4S Taycan, but it’s flat-out “the best car I’ve ever driven”. I’ve owned a host of sport-equipped BMWs my whole life and have driven a friend’s high-end Telsa. But none compare to the combination of performance, styling and fun-yet relaxed drivability that this car has. I’ve had my Taycan for two months now, and I’m still blown-away. PS - if you’re getting one, add the PDCC dynamic suspension option. Ivy really keeps this 2.5 ton vehicle flat in the turns.

I have had my car for four months now and continue to enjoy it daily. My only complaint is the reversing camera at night. It really is most inadequate and has me looking at ways to improve the rear illumination. It won’t spoil ownership but it causes great anxiety reversing in poorly lit, unfamiliar areas. The “virtual car” of course is brilliant. - in daylight.

Taycan Performs

I came to the Taycan GTS from a Tesla Model P100D. On paper the Taycan .3 seconds slower. It definitely does not perform slower. I’ve had fun with this car ever sense I bought it! I’ve never been happier with a car in my life. The starting speed is amazing. It will snap your head back if you’re not ready for it. The handling is all Porsche. Tight turns and hills are a breeze to navigate. I can’t believe how fast I can go on an off ramp. Sorry to any police officers out there but it is fun taking those turns at 80! The inside is hi tech and plush. I bought the model that was coming in so I didn’t get a chance to add any extras, but it doesn’t need any. If the customer service stays as great as it has been, I may be staying with a Taycan for a very long time.

I driven sports cars with a V8 engine for several years. I made the leap to electric this year with a 2021 Taycan 4S. It’s an amazing vehicle with great balance, power, and drop dead gorgeous looks!

Superb styling. Excellent handling and performance. Vehicle software can be improved - OTA updates and menu structure are better in other vehicles. Range has been as expected and charging is easy.

Why would anyone buy an electric Porsche? Because it's a Porsche! This is the finest automobile I have ever driven! This isn't an electric Panamera, this is an electric 911. Until you drive it, you cannot make any assumptions. Taycan...there is no substitute! UPDATE: Clearly having a different and much better experience with my 2020 Taycan 4S. No issues at all, and software updates are done at home on its own, plugged in to charger. Porsche... there is no substitute!

Too expensive for what you get! Low range, low acceleration compared to model S

Not Enough Distance!

It looks pretty nice, drives well, the interior is sufficient, and it is GREAT that Porsche got rid of all those ridiculous buttons they’ve had that cover most Porsche center dashboards, but... the overall mileage that you get is AWFUL! Only 210 miles before recharging? If I drove to visit friends North of me or East of me, I would have to recharge before we could even drive out to get lunch or dinner! Needs to have a range of at least 400 miles before I could consider it.

The Ultimate Daily Commuter

Summary: The Taycan is the best driving non exotic EV available today. Background: I drive over 30k miles a year to client sites and decided to move up in the VW Group ladder. Previous cars were a heavily modified MK7.5 Golf R and a lightly modified B9.5 RS5, both of which were excellent cars in their own right. Driving Experience: The Golf R takes the win, followed by the Taycan with the RS5 last. Besides the instant acceleration of the Taycan, the car is just too heavy and is very noticeable in heavy cornering such as tearing up cloverleafs to cut around a backed up onramp. Though the car is very capable, the way it feels around corners do not inspire confidence to push it harder. This car is best at being a GT car and is the most fun when driven at 8 tenths. Drove it 9 tenths on a mountain road a few times and it invoked more fear than excitement. The Taycan belongs mainly on the highways. Style and Prestige: Taycan is by far the best looking. Biggest perk is that other drivers are a lot more courteous to you and tend to stay away. It was quite common to have people tailgate the Golf R and RS5, but it rarely happens in the Taycan. People also don't tend to cut me off in the Taycan and would often let me merge into traffic. The difference in perception between a Porsche and a VW or Audi is vastly different. The look of the car and the badge really do matter. Interior and Ergonomics: The RS5 had the best interior layout and build quality. The touchscreen only Taycan requires you to take your eyes off the road a bit too often, not something you want to do when driving this highway missile. Squeaks and rattles are also very prominent across the entire front cabin. There were rattles in the steering column, sun visor, sport chrono watch, and both front doors panels. It is beyond unacceptable for an ultra quiet car in this price range. However, the Taycan does have the best seats. Ownership Experience: Having the ability to just plug the car in overnight and come out full every morning is a blessing. Given how much I drive, not having to go to the gas station twice a week saves quite a bit of time. The same applies to maintenance, I only need to take the car in every 20k miles for a checkup versus every 10k for the Golf R and RS5. Tire wear is projected to be over 30k miles which is on par with the ICE counterparts since I primarily do highway driving. Range is also higher than advertised. My car with the 21" CT wheels is advertised at 215 miles. In reality I get 250 miles in 70+ degree weather and 215 miles in 40 degree weather with the heater set at 71 degrees at all times. The style, prestige, and convenience of the Taycan is what really shines. You would never need to explain to someone why you spent over $100k on a Taycan but would need to justify your decision as to why a souped up econobox like the Golf R is worthy of $45k. Though in the end, if I were to do it over again I would skip the Taycan, keep the Golf R as a daily and get a 911 for the weekends. To say it once more, the Taycan is the absolute best non exotic EV one can currently buy. But it is not the best Porsche, that title still belongs to the 911.

Traded in 991 for TAYCAN 4s

J, 08/17/2021
2020 Porsche Taycan 4S 4dr Sedan AWD (electric 2AM)

I have owned two 911's before the TAYCAN 4s. I had a 2007 997.1 for 5 years. Then I traded that for a base 2012 991.1 PDK. After the 2012 992 gave me TWO check engine lights earlier this year (Camshaft problem) and a failed fuel pump last year I decided it was time to look for a NEW Porsche before something really expensive needed to be done. My dealer had a TAYCAN 4s and a base 992 to try out. Honestly with the new 992 with the TURBO charged engine rather than the 991 (non turbo) it didn't feel or sound like the old 991. So I tested the TAYCAN 4s right after that. Basically the TAYCAN 4s feels and drives like the BASE 992 (without SPORT exhaust of course). The price of a TAYCAN 4s and a base 992 are about the same. I decided on the TAYCAN 4s due to EV structure., instant torque and comfort. I cannot go back to a 911as a daily driver. Of course the ideal would be TAYCAN 4s as the daily driver and a GT# touring as the weekend car (If you can get one and have the $$$$ to buy both)
