Used 2001 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4WD 4dr SUV (3.5L 6cyl 5M) Consumer Reviews
Questionable
I purchased my Nissan SEV6 a year ago. Overall a nice vehicle, but has been in the shop more often for sqeaks & rattles and oil consuption. The power is great! it's about time. On quality, as you know Nissan has been in debt for several years now and they have worked hard on the engineering side to make it a better/less costly vehicle to manufactur. Quality difinatly went down-hill. Did you know that Nissan has the fastest assembly-line in the world! It was in USA Today. The total manufacturing process is less than a day per car/truck. The number of consumer complaints hit an all time high for Nissan, especially on the Extera.
Endless $700 bills
The Pathfinder is great except for the 3 oxygen sensors and the $700 instrument cluster that Nissan says isn't a defect but hasn't worked right from the first day.

Bulletproof
Bought the car because my buddy has a '99 with 130K miles and his still looks runs and looks like new. Mine has 77K on it now and seems designed and built to last. Only regular maintenance so far. The engine is awesome and puts others to shame with it's smooth power and passing ability. The interior carpet seems to be the only thing that isn't really up to the rugged standards of the rest of the vehicle.
Wish I'd bought a Tahoe
We bought the Pathfinder after owning a GMC Yukon thinking "this will be more sporty and get better gas mileage." We were right about the sportiness part of SUV but found the utility lacking because of the small size and the gas mileage being actually worse than the larger Yukon/Tahoe. It is a nice vehicle with comfortable leather front seats, but the backseat is horrible and really only fit for kids. I guess it's all relative to what a person's needs are so if the size is not an issue then I would recommend this as a good vehicle to have. We've kept it for 8 years so it wasn't too bad of an experience. Replaced oxygen sensor with Maxima sensor for 20% of the pathfinder price 3 yrs ago.
stuck in the middle again
This is the best riding of all mid? size SUV's. Handles fair, plenty of power, and very comfortable seating. Short on luggage capacity, and light on build quality, it is nonetheless the best of a dying breed of 5 passenger (really 4) SUV's. Transmission and window operation are its biggest quirks. The Automatic likes to upshift at inapropriat times and in my estimation is dangerous.
