RClass gets the nod from this bimmerfile
My wife and I love our X5 but with two kids (3 and 4)we were busting at the seams. We drove a Honda minivan first and then the R350 on a whim -- in our view, the R offers 85% of minivan functionality but feels 250% more refined. So, we snaped one up on an manufacturer subsidized lease, (monthly pmts less than a Honda!) and immediately packed up the family for a trip to the NC mountains where we drove 40 miles up and down hills with switchbacks that would have made me sweat even in my BMW 330i. The R inspired confidence and never lost composure even when late braking on decreasing radius turns going down a steep grade! To me, this represents a level of active safety that few can match.
Worth considering
Nice quality. Very comfortable inside. 6 adult sized seats. Really. Most other large SUV's may "seat 7" but they are not nearly as functional. Decent power, but the 3.5 litre could use another 15-20 horses. Good handling but sways a bit if driven hard. Styling is excellent from the front. Good from the side. Questionable from behind. Brakes are super-powerful - almost hyper sensitive to those used to domestics. 7 speed transmission is very high tech. Works very well. Good car, available with discounts - surprisingly good value. A true crossover that's properly executed. I think sales will pick up once people realize you can have performance, room, safety, style and utility.

Luxury Car for Big Families
We have 4 kids of all ages and sizes. We found the R class to be the only luxury car to fit us all comfortably, especially the 3rd row. Very safe, fairly fuel efficient, and has a great ride!
Looker - not driver!
I have two boys, my partner and three dogs. we needed to upgrade from our '05 E-Wagon. It is too bad that with this larger wagon you lose touch with the road. It is very comfortable and spacious, nice to look at but not fun to drive. OK on the highway but take it onto a winding road and yuk! You are able to steEr out of an emergency but it does not hold the road. This is my 11th MB. A little bummed but will probabaly be back for a smaller one!
Vrroooom!
Traded in an FX45 and initially missed the vroom but in R class there is lots of room so who needs the v (as in velocity). With that said this car holds up well on the highway, and I was doing the passing and not being passed. The interior is luxurious compared to others in this class and as a six footer I can even sit comfortably in the back seat. So far so good - also the wife loves the way it looks and everytime I park it I get another comment on my ride - -
