Used 2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ML320 4dr SUV AWD Consumer Reviews
Uberwagen
This is two vehicles-in-one for our family. My wife loves using it for driving the kids around, shopping, whatever. She especially likes the on- the-spot braking. I love taking it on camping trips. It has tons of room for all our camping gear (family of 4) - especially when I shift the back seats forward to increase the cargo area. No other SUVs I looked at (at the time) had the same blend of cargo capacity, handling and ride. You do feel like you are driving a tall euro sedan - cornering is quite remarkable (due to ESP) for a vehicle so tall. We have had a few minor issues requiring dealer service but overall have been pleased with its reliability.
Kinks to work out
Finally after 2 1/2 years of trips to the repair shop, I finally gave up on my ML. 12 trips to the shop for 8 different reasons and I finally had enough. The last straw was getting stranded by a fuel pump failure. All items were covered under the warranty but for $40,000 I at least want a car that runs for a couple of years before mechanical failures set in.

My .02 (just sold my ML320)
Our ML320 had several annoying issues which, while covered under warranty, did not meet my expectations of Mercedes Benz quality. The car is great to drive and has a wonderful interior, but here is my laundry list: failed emission test due to faulty sensor, GPS system ate a cassette and I had to pull the fuse to get it to stop chewing (even with ML powered off it kept going), MB replaced the entire GPS unit. Back seat rest inserts pop off when adjusting, back seat was stuck in down position (dealer had to adjust cables), High Oil light came on when oil was low (took 3 trips to the dealer before diagnosed also), moon roof air dam bar came off.
Lots of electronics-many things go wrong
I love driving my 2000 ML320. However, I hate taking it into the shop. Now, it is coming off warranty, and I'm worried about the total cost of ownership. Here's some examples of the problems: Electronic Window Switch broken Loose Lower Power Steering Cooler Line Fuel Pump Insufficient Glue Residue on Door Window Noisy Drivers Side Door - Strap Loose Rear Seat Stuck in Down Position SRS Controller Needs to Be Replaced and More
A "wanna-be" Mercedes
The 2000 ML320 is a good car. The interior is very comfertible. It rates terrible for a Mercedes. The dash is made like crap for one thing. There are not enough cupholders, and no one touch windows all around. It handles well for an SUV, and fuel economy greatly worsens over time. The engine and transmition were brilliantly matched. The transmition is the best I have ever seen.
