An Amazing Little car

Plain and simple - this is a car for those that LIKE being involved in driving. If you want things bank-vault quiet, and don't like hearing the rippp! of the buttery smooth rotary engine; if feedback from the tires and steering bothers you; if you're more concerned with saving gas than enjoying the irresistible urge to use the 9,000 RPMs worth of power - get an Accord or a Hybrid econobox. Oh and by the way, if you DON'T want to be noticed, this is NOT your car! Otherwise this machine is an deliriously addicting combination of engineering refinement, race car design suspension, sweet high revving engine, comfortable high class interior, and drop dead looks, and affordable to boot!

I've had my RX-8 for almost 3 months and absolutely LOVE IT!!! I've got over 6000 miles and the only thing I can think to complain about it is the gas mileage - about 20 mpg. but everything else about the car makes the gas mileage easier to accept. It's a huge head-turner. One problem - most of the lookers are 20-year old guys and I'm a 45-year old woman. Oh well - I love the car!! When I first drove it to work someone said it looked like a "spaceship"

There is no way around it this car is just a kick to drive, we also own a '98 Cobra and the RX is the toy, for muscle it's the 'stang. THe only way to describe the RX is "It's a go-cart on Steroids". Adding oil every couple tankfulls is a bit disconcerting at first but we're getting used to it

Great looking car with good handling. Have previously owned RX-7's and this is definitely a different car. Actually, I was expecting more from Mazda with the amount of time they spent in R&D. It accelerates well off the line, but its high end acceleration and speed is still average. With all the cars out there improving HP, I would have expected better from something trying to be a sports car. It could also drive smoother if it is trying to pass as a sedan. Thus, this car tries to be several things but masters none of them. If you need cargo space it has absolutely little as most large items(golf bags) will not fit in the small trunk opening.

The RX-8 is an absolute blast to drive. Steering and handling are exceptional. There are so many little features and design aspects that are included that you'll find things months after purchasing...many that will make you say "now why didn't someone think of that before?" This is truly a family sports car. The unique doors makes it easy for rear riders to get in/out.

I bought the automatic model somewhat reluctantly, but the car will see a lot of in-town traffic. I am not at all disappointed! The car is a blast to drive, and pulls smoothly to the 7500 rpm redline. Handling is awe inspiring, and grip is tenacious. I'm 6'2", and am very comfortable in the car. The back seat isn't imaginary either, humans can actually use it. Styling is head-turning, I've never gotten more looks. All in all a great car, with only one downside- MILEAGE! If you were unfamiliar, you'd swear there was a hole in the gas tank. It's OK in the end though, because you're sure to get a compliment every time you visit the pump.

Great handling, driving car. With the lower torque numbers, I started out driving in lower gears, ie, 3rd and 4th. After a little experience with it, I found 5th and 6th are strong gears also, but certainly not a blast at acceleration. The engine doesn't seem to lug at lower RPM, just doesn't pull out like a BMW. The car is well built, solid and fun!!

This car far exceeded my expectations for mazda. It is an extremely fun and inspired car to drive, and gets a lot of attention as well. The best way i can describe the amount of driving pleasure this car sparks, is by referring to the honda s2000. In terms of power delivery, it is very similar to the s2000, in my opinion having better steering feel then the honda, and a much better ride quality, however the shift feel is not quite as good as the honds (but it is still excellent)

The perfect drivers car. Not much for drag racing, but look out corners! Now if only it could be mated with an advanced hybrid propulsion system, we'd all be in a much better place. I wonder what kind of mini- "Hoover Dam" a tuned out rotary generator motor could be for powering four wheel located electric motors, ala GM's skate chassis? 50-100 HP at EACH wheel?

Picked mine up yesterday, what a fun car to drive. It's fast, the engine sounds great, it's comfortable (6'2"), and it's beautiful. I disagree with the earlier review about the interior looking cheap, far from it. It's superior to the 350Z, more in line with a Boxter.

After several months of research, I finally purchased my RX-8. I love the automatic because of the "manual" option. I think it is so cool to be able to change gears on the steering wheel. It's like a video game. I have one baby and the car seat fits perfectly in the backseat. If you are thinking about it, just go buy it. You won't regret it.

All I have to say is trying to get on the Freeway in Seattle, especially I-5, has never been so much fun. The dealership I got my RX-8. The staff was beautiful from Start to finish. Does this Red RX-8 ever show dirt on it. The paint concept is great or maybe once you are in it and going, you "Zoom- Zoom" the dirt particles right off. Oh did I mention I am happy about my RX-8; city to highway.............ZZZZZooooMMMMM

Got 2500miles so far and this RX-8 rocks big time!!! Paid $30300 for the sunlight silver GT package. Acceleration is good (not great) but driving is fun with that 9k RPM limit in second gear getting me to 60+mpg in just over 6seconds. Handling is great. Fits 4 adults. Slim 6 footers can sit in back and enter/exit with relative ease for shorter trips. Best combo of sportiness, civility, and practicality that $30k can buy IMHO.

Issues from the start - car has fuel flooded about 9 times. 3 times acts like security or something will not let engine start, let set 30 minutes, no problem. If you were stupid you would think you forgot to push the clutch in. Back brakes have made noise since purchase even after replaced. Mazda normally insults your intelligence about how to operate their sports car. My response - no problems operating a Z3, or Corvette. One of those love/hate cars. Most of the time fun, part of the time frustrating. Going back to a Corvette.

Like another person who rated this vehicle, I had to wait four months before I got my car. The wait was worth it! You get tremendous bang for the buck with this vehicle. Usually when I get a car or anything expensive, I have a few moments of buyer's remorse. However, I haven't experienced one second of it since I bought this car! That makes me so happy!

Did a lot of research before purchasing this car. The only negative things people were saying was gas mileage. I work about 15 miles from my house so that doesn't bother me but I could see how people would complain about it. But it is a performance vehicle and it does kick some serious butt.I love it and thought it was a smart buy.

Drivers seat with power can be adjusted to the shortest or tallest. You must start the engine to appreciate the power and sound of this new rotary engine. Mazda has a real winner in this vehicle. You must drive one to experience the excitement and thrill of this new machine.

Beautiful design, sleek, agile, with just the right blend of top ten performance and top five comfort and drivability! At under $26k for the base model it is an unparalleled value. Oh yeah you can get a OEM modified turbo Subaru WRX, or a turbo Mustang that will slightly outperform the RX8 0-60, but they are just souped-up sedans that do not inspire the thoroughbred sports car vision like the Mazda RX8, Nissan 350Z, Porsche Boxster, BMW Z4... There is no comparison as far as class and value when it comes to my RX8!!!

I purchased this car in 2006 with only 11K miles on it. It is loaded including navigation. Overall I love the car, the way it looks, and particularly the way it handles. Throughout its life I noticed a steady decrease in power, and in gas mileage. Complaint about it several times to Mazda with no fix. The doors also rattle quite a bit after you have it for about 40k. The car now has 67K miles, it is at the dealership for a new engine; and somehow I am still responsible for the "bad" O2 sensor which probably was damaged by the overwhelm amount of gas going thru the cat converter. I also had to replace the clutch at 62k.

This car rocks! Purchased it new as a 30th b-day present to myself and have no regrets. My first car was a 79 RX7 and then I had a 91 MR2 and this RX8 blows them both out of the water. It corners like a dream and the acceleration onto the fwy gives me a smile everytime. I've had it up to 140 mph and it had room for more - I just chickened out. I get looks and comments on it all the time. It's such a unique looking car. The 4 door aspect is really only good for lower insurance although the backseats are surprisingly roomy. No engine probs at all. Not good in the snow so luckily I have the luxury of garaging it for the winter and driving a beater 4x4. Gas mileage is a consistent 20.

Between the two cars I took into consideration for my next toy, the RX8 was the favorite. The design and performance does not compare to that of the 350z. Despite the 8's lack of hp, the handling is unbelievable. I'm a daily commuter and every morning I sit in the driver's seat, and I feel like a winner. If you have to make the choice between a sports car from the $25k-$35k range, get the 8!!!

I had been impatiently waiting for a couple months for the car to be available in my area. I have only had my RX-8 for two weeks, but it has been wonderful. The styling is close to exotic and I get lots positive comments about its looks. The performance is just what I expected, handles better than a porche, but not so fast that you will drive over your head easily.

The entire front end is incinerated and unrepairable. According to Mazda mine is the first ... hopefully it's the last.
