Great year so far

I've owned my RX-8 for almost a year and I have enjoyed almost every minute of it. In my price range, I could not find this car's same mixture of power, handling, utility, and safety features. Comparatively few of them are on the road, so I frequently get looks at stop lights, as well as many race requests, which leads me to my biggest gripe- lack of torque. Until you get into those high rev ranges, there isn't much going on, but with the positive action of the 6 speed stick, once you get it into the high part of the tach, it's nice and easy to keep it there. Overall a great car; let's all thank Mazda for employing more engineers than accountants.

I have had my RX-8 for around 6 weeks - the first one in Ft Worth. It really gets some double takes, and is a blast to drive. As a form RX-7 owner, I have found this to be an improvement over an already great car. The real bonus for me is that I can get the whole family on board.

Wow! This car is AWESOME!! I absolutely love it. Why the sixth gear? 100 MPH in 4th is enough for me. The styling is great and the interior is comfy and classy. My wife does not like the orange display, but fine for me. Silver really shows off the car. Can't wait for aftermarket to get it back to 250 horses. Would recommend for anybody who like to drive fast and does not want a beemer. Very satisfied!!

I have had my RX8 for 18 months and have been to the dealer MULTIPLE times with many different issues. First of all, let me say I love cars and I baby and care for them meticulously. I have had to have the car towed 2 times, I have had 3 flat tires, I have had all the spark plugs replaced, the brake shim kit replaced, and multiple trips to the dealership for recalls. To top it off I only have 8800 miles on the car. I bought snow tires for $900 because I live in VT. That was the least of the problems. It really did quite well in the snow. I am just sick and tired of being tied to the dealership due to constant problems. The car is just not reliable !

I've had my 8 since Jan. 04. Just passed 8800 miles. I love everything about this car except one major thing: fuel economy. My last tank was 13 mpg city driving; mainly to and from work. I am VERY disappointed in this number which has been consistent since I've bought the car. "Lowest True Cost to Own"?! Sorry Edmunds, but the poor fuel mileage should eliminate this car. If I would have known it was THIS bad I would have gotten a different car. I'm just tired of filling up every 175 miles or so.

This is the most fun car to drive that I have owned. Love to hear the rotary engine...great to the ear...makes you want to drive everywhere and never get out. Super handling and very comfortable. Overall, no car can touch it. 350z is a rough ride and has tire problems, boxster too expensive, s2000 comes close but noisier and no back seat.

This car was not my first choice...initially. I gravitated towards two distinctly different vehicles; Honda S2000 and Subaru WRX. All are obviously high performance but compact sized. The reason for the RX8 choice revolves around a failure to compromise. The Mazda simply does everything well! It does not accelerate fastest, although it is unlikely that it can realistically be bettered by anything this side of a 06 Vette. Handling manners are impeccable. And, since I can drive (not merely steer), the use of accelerator allows real cornering finesse! No trick gauges (no ribbon tach!) and no extraneous bulges (hood scoops?) No pretense. Simply performance at my fingertips and toes!

700 miles so far. Gas mileage is not good but it's a sports car. Needs Climate control instead of manual. The air conditioning does not cool the car and makes a clunk sound every so often. The air bag light comes on occasionally and when the clutch is not engaged it makes a grinding sound which can be heard from inside. The stereo system could be better. The black interior causes it to get too hot in the sunshine plus makes it appear dirty with very little dust. Overall good car.....hopefully continues as that.

I'm always a little wary of buying the first model year of car but I'm over 11,000 miles with not the first problem. Excellent handling and ride with good acceleration thta could use a little more torque in the lower RPMs of first gear. A little thirsty for gas especially if driven fast. I tend to average about 19 MPG. I love the short throw gearbox and tight steering. A really fun car to drive.

I knew this was a sports car when I bought it and was willing to put up with a few rough edges. About the only concern I've had is the high performance SUMMER tires it comes with - they are totally worthless in the winter! Mileage is a bit lower than we get with our Mazda 3 but performance is awesome. No quality or engine problems and the dealer has even been a pleasant surprise.

This is the best car I have ever owned and that covers a lot. Every time I drive it I get a smile on my face. It has performed well on long and short trips. It is a rotary, so there are the normal maintanence issues and lower mileage than I would like. But I knew that when I bought it and I am already planning my next RX-8 purchase in a couple years. I recommend that you do not test drive this car unless you are ready to buy one, because you will want it!

I love it. It really moves. I get lots of looks from passers by. It handles great. Very little wind noise. Hugs the road. Feel safe it in. Back seat for children fine but adults will be cramped. Trunk space adequate. Fuel is really bad. I don't do jackrabbit starts and I can actually see the gas tank level go down while driving. I use premium gas as instructed but would like to use midgrade since prices are less. Love my car. Zoom Zoom Zoom was meant for this car.

I like very much this car. Although its my first sports car and I cannot compare with others, the combination of having 4 seat, cool suicide rear doors, great handling, good power and very nice interior and very competitive price compared to others makes it a great choice. I did not mention the fact that everyone is looking at me since I'm one of the few in my area with this car! this is a GREAT feeling!

This is my second vehicle w/a rotary engine. The first was a RX3 that made me a believer. The handling is incredible and more impressive is how smooth and quiet this practical sports car is. A recent auto magazine called the RX8 a sports car you could talk your spouse, in this case my wife into buying.

This thing is amazing. The funnest car I've ever driven. I love driving anywhere and would take the long route just to drive it a while longer. Only bad thing is gas. It's supposed to be 18MPG, but I've gaged mine somewhere approximately 12MPG ... crazy, but it's worth the ride. Not to mention the attention.

The RX-8 is a fun car to drive. It is expensive to drive because of poor fuel economy and if you don't put "Super" in your tank you will get poor performance too. I have had a few warranty issues come up since I bought it but the dealership has been outstanding to respond to fixing these issues. Great car, I really am glad I bought it, I just wish the accessories for it weren't so expensive.

I just picked up my Titanium Grey 6M RX- 8, and what a sweet ride it is. In my opinion, no other sports car can offer the performance, comfort and useablity that the RX-8 manages. If you are in the market for a sports car - and you seek to avoid the semi-mandatory lower lumbar surgery that accompanies a 350Z - you owe it to yourself to drive this car. You will not be disappointed.

This car is a case of being more than meets the eye. If you're looking at 0-60 and the 1/4 mile, this isn't the fastest car in its price range, which seems to be what most people look at first in a performance car. However, nothing really stops better and only a few can actually handle better within this price range. Mazda did an amazing job blending comfort with handling, nothing compares when mixing these two things. I promise it is comfortable having the experience of actually driving from VA to CA in my RX-8. If you consider this car if possible test drive it on a windy road to see the beauty of it!

Understood that fuel economy was not a plus. This is overshadowed by the sheer pleasure of driving. Had to replace motor mounts after 10,000+ - miles. A/C a little weak for Texas climate. Wheels cannot withstand extended bumpy roads without bending. Rear glass should open with trunk (ala RX-7).

The car has amazing handling features on dry road and on rain but in snow it sucks horribly. My RX8 didnt even move in snow.Interior looks sweet and all the ladies want in and exterior is very sexy.I dont like how you cant turn ure engine off before 5 minutes or engine will flood. The heating is not that great either. My gears grind from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3 but not a serious problem.A slight noise. This is a HIGH REVVING CAR.1k- 3k it has some power, but as soon as the car hits 3k everythin breaks loose.Controlling is superior, you can take mad corners at mad speeds.Car is fun to drive, attracts ladies, gets looks constantly, comfortable, and great to show off in.

A beautiful and friendly car, the RX-8 makes its mark on the road. A unique body style that is subtle but stands out in the crowd. It is everything you expect it to be with the except of 2 major points. Lack of torque, so when you floor the gas, you still feel like your cruising unless you are in the higher RPMs. Even then you do not feel much acceleration. Secondly, MPG. Sadly I get a consistent 13 mpg with a 45/55 highway/city driving style. Mildly better than my father's Ford Expedition. These are my only complaints.

I am having so much fun with this car. It gets me in front of almost any car I want to get in front of... People with more expensive cars, and young kids stare at it... (Now thats cool) and its just fun to drive, so buckle up and drive... Gas is a factor, it uses it.. expecially just getting the car.. You always find yourself stepping on the gas pedal (Hard) Big Smile.... Ok, things you should know. Check oil every other gas fill up until the first oil change.. yes it burns oil.. Don't get the synthetic oil... Just get the oil Mazda recommends. In closing.. Oh my god... Zoom Zoom.. worth every penny!

The RX-8 won't go 0-60 with blinding speed. It's only 1.8 liters, but if you want to rip through a winding roads like sports cars are meant to do, you can't beat it for the price. Its worst feature is gas mileage. I love the interior layout. All the gauges are clearly visible and the huge 10K tach with the digital speedometer is way cool even though I don't look at it much; I shift by sound. If I get to wound up in the post 8000 rpm whine the audible alarm that goes off as I pass through 95K mark reminds me to shift. I haven't experienced any maintenance problems (mine's a 6 speed manual). My biggest thrill comes from the G-force engaging the limited slip differential in the curves.

Like a lot of other people, I was afraid of the rotary. It is so much different than anything on the road. That difference is what scared me, but that was till I drove one. I fell in love with this car in the first minute behind the wheel. It does have some dos and don'ts but what car doesn't. A pure sports car at this price is almost to good to be true. It is a high maintenance car so if you want to race stop light to stop light go buy a Honda! If you want a perfectly balanced extension of your thoughts to the road buy a RX8!

I been brougut up around the finest of cars, but even among those the RX-8 stands out. The unique design is the first thing that jumps out at you, but what really matters is the quality of the drive, and the RX-8 does not disappoint. This replaced my WRX and 83 Supra- both phenomenal everyday cars- and I have not been disappointed. Obviously the handling is not as sure as the WRX in adverse conditions (actually, the Supra was better in the snow,) but on dry pavement the RX-8 corners just as well as my dad's M3. The only real drawback is the mileage. Its listed at 17/24, but I've gotten as little as 14 highway, with the average around 15.5.

Overall the car is a great experience. I replaced the expensive run flat tires when I took a nail in the sidewall and bought a spare on eBay. Driving it to work can be frustrating because you have to hold it back in heavy traffic. It's fabulous to drive on trips. My first rotary. I like the sounds but miss the rumble of a big V-8. My mileage started out low but has improved to a steady 20 mpg. If you drive slow on the freeway, you might get 22 (downhill).

As a senior citizen, I always promised myself a little red sports car. This was it. I researched the RX8 online and drove one. Performance is excellent, easy to drive, nice ride considering it's a sports car. Good power and the rotary engine is historically super-reliable. Design is more Italian than Japanese and I like that. Looks like it's moving fast when sitting still, and doesn't have that roller skate look of the 350Z. We also have a Mazda MPV which has been excellent.

A sports car that is pure yet practical sounds like an oxymoron, yet the RX-8 is truly that. This is a sports car not a muscle car, meaning it can handle better than most cars twice it's price, but don't try to race WRX's or Mustang Cobras. The elegant style and uniqueness of the rotary engine set this car apart with it's competition. I recommend ensuring that the ECU gets an M flash, which further enhances the smoothness, low-end HP and fuel economy.

I have had the car 1 month and have put about 1000 miles on it. It is a very nice sports car. Since it has a few miles on it I am exploring the upper rev band and its plenty fast for me. It has a few blind spots in and you have to pay close attention with lane changes on the freeway. The air conditioner is also weak for a high temp area. I am concerned since with depreciation now Mazda has announced it will buy back the first 3000 rx8's from dissatisfied customers because of the misstated horsepower numbers.I think I will keep the car and accept the $500.00 offer along with the free maintanence offer instead. But I have until Oct 1 the make up my mind.

I've had my RX-8 for about nine moths now and the thing is a blast. I have read some of the reviews and, of those that are critcal, try to drive the car as it is designed to be driven. I first bought the third gereration twin turbo version, R1. This car was blisteringly fast, expensive, and a whole lot of fun. If you took a year learning to drive it you would only have to watch out for was 911's. The car was not practical for anything other than autocross type driving. Also, Mazda service was clearly off guard and provided poor service. The RX-8 so far has most of the benifits of that technolgy without many of the problem. The RX-8 seems to be a great sucessor to the 7 and I really love it.

Love the car -- only annoying feature -- the tire pressure light and the fuel cap warning lights are on all the time. Even if I put air in my tires -- in a day or two -- the light is on and off again. Often after getting gas the fuel cap warning light comes on and I do have the cap on right. Warning lights too sensitive.

This is the best vehicle in the sports car class you can own at this price point. The negative reviews you will see are due to the price of this car making people think it is not a true sports car. DO NOT buy this car if you are looking for A. Economy or B. Luxury. It is loud, bumpy and get bad gas mileage. HOWEVER!!! It is a premier sports car that will make you want to go two towns away to get milk, even if it cost twice as much. It is a blast to drive and will challenge cars you wouldn't think in handling and speed. No it isn't the FASTEST car on the road, but if you get into the twisties it the guy behind you will think it is!

The RX-8 is blast drive. The speedometer is very helpful because it is digital. The audio system is much better than the nissans 350 Z. The speakers don't sound like they are right at your ears. It is nive to be able to fit four people in a sports car. The interior could not be any sportier. I say the RX-8 is one of the best cars in 2004.
