This is better than a Skyline and Supra!
I have had two RX7s now and they are the car so many expensive exotics and alike aspire to be. 0-60 in 4.9 seconds is supercar territory, not to mention one of the greatest chassis' ever made and what a great sounding engine! This is a dream car for anyone but at prices to be afforded by all. Love it and it will love you 100 fold.
The 3rd Gen RX7 is a Poor Man's Ferrari
The 3rd generation Mazda's RX7 rightfully won Motor Trend's Car of the year award when it was first released 10 years ago. Its combination of acceleration, handling and styling made it the best sports car to ever come from Japan and better than many cars that cost twice or even three times as much, including Porsche. This car is a true sports car not just a sporty car and it sacrifices many comforts for performance.
I always wanted one of these...
To this day, there has not been a production sports car that delivers so much handling and performance in such a beautiful package (ok, the Z06 comes close). I regularly race in autocross (SCCA Solo-II) stock class and continue to be impressed with the car's handling ability. In high-performance handling situations, however, it takes a good deal of experience to overcome the twin- turbo lag that can follow any slow maneuver. I love that heads turn wherever I go, not many people know what this car is-- and part of it's appeal is the uniqueness and classic sports car styling.
ok
it is a very good car that i would recommend youi buy. its the best car i have ever driven
Hottest sports car on the planet
This is my third generation of RX7. The twin turbo rotary engine puts it in it's own class along with the handling. This model won the 24 hour LeMans in Europe. The improved handling over the other models is phenomenal! It is much more stable in weather than other performance cars. One of the previous writers said it all with the feeling of being in a jet cockpit It is a thrill to drive but make no mistake it was built for racing not creature comfort and it performs. This RX7 draws stares where ever it goes for its exterior styling alone and nothing compares to the feeling of driving this great machine. I don't look in awe or longing at any other cars anymore!
Race Car But High Maintenance
To completely sum up the TT Rx7: PURE sports car experience, a lot of TLC. It's rare to find a car this enjoyable, and if you take care of it it will take care of you. I bought mine a little over a year ago with a reman engine, and even though I've spent a ton on reliability parts and other repairs, nothing makes me smile more than hitting the gas in this car. If you got a little money, you're a real car guy and you don't mind learning a little about the car you drive, don't pass up the Rx7.
Rx7 - Drivers Dream
This car made me a car guy. When it works it is pretty near perfect and if you know what you are doing, it can run really well. Make sure you learn how to drive and this car will reward you like anything. Akin in its day to the exige now, it is awe inspiring and fun go-cart. Its styling is still amazing and I still have notes all the time on my car asking to sell it - even with faded paint. This car is about the spirit of driving for sure.
For rotorheads only
A poor mans Z06. Great car. But, this car is not for the non-mechanically inclined. Working on it and learning all its quirks is half the fun of owning it.
ROCKET POWER
This car was the bomb. Great handleing, great performance, beautiful to look at. I found this beauty at a little local dealer and $9000 later drove off with the most powerful car I have ever owned. 215hp and suspension that allowed me to take it around corners over 60 like they weren't even there. Traded it for 99 Saab 93 SE convertable for my wife nine months later. Made $3000. Still kicking myself for that one....
Buy a warranty if not racing it
From the moment I saw the RX-7 I wanted it. It is truly one of the most beautiful designs to ever come out of Japan. I have owned this and the Nissan Twin Turbo 300. While the 300 is overall a better "car", the RX-7 is really more of a true sports car. Good: Styling, smooth engine, looks very expensive, interior well laid- out. Not so good: If you are considering one, and are not planning on putting on an aftermarket turbo, etc., BUY A WARRANTY. I went through three orig equip turbos but luckily had a warranty. You can buy a warranty on this ride for under $2K, and you WILL be glad you did. Other bad: drinks premium fuel like a freshman fraternity pledge at a beer keg. You WILL replace radio.
Look before you leap
Performance has its price. This car is all about performance. It is not for the faint of heart nor thin of wallet. Expect to pay for the performance. Unfortunately, most original owners were unaware of this aspect of ownership. However with proper research and the availibility of a good, local aftermarket tuner, the the 3rd Gen RX7 will take your breath away!
Runs like a cheetah! Crack of thunder!
First of all, I am a car guy. I love cars. I drove a Ferrari 430 around the track in las vegas and it was a blast! I just retired and bought a gentlemanly car in the jaguar xj8. I have a completely original rx7 with 59000 miles on it. Nothing else feels like an rx7 that I have ever driven. The twin sequential turbo rotary engine is unique. Smooth as silk. The look of the car is classic and timeless. Out of a little 1.3 liter engine you can get 600+ hp with modifications in a 2800 lb car! My son has the same car as me - 1994 red - I call them the twins - mine is original and his is heavily modified. They are a blast to drive! The cars can be a little tempramental when you start to modify things and expensive and don't know what you are doing. I would sum them up as a little like a rose - beautiful but with thorns.

RX-7=awesome
cool car, fun to drive can't get anything like it. Love it. Will tie with a corvette. That about says it all.
wow!
this car has got to be one of the best cars out there. it does not have a problem standing up to exotic cars four times the rx7 price tag!
Can be the fastest car out there
If most of you are looking for a car with possabilities this car is for you. With the rotory engine design a number of custom performance modifications are available. I recently installed a Greddy Intercooler and a Greddy t78 turbo, and upgraded radiator. The car is pushing about 350 HP on pump gas.
Maintenace~~!
as long as you do every maintenace, your car may run as new. Of courz, performace upgrad is a "must",im one of those ppl who drag their car to maintenace on time. if u luv the car..take care of it..there're only 14000 of 3ed gen rx-7. peyce
The Quintessential Sportscar
You feel like you are strapped into the cockpit of a jet fighter when you sit in the car. And driving it produces the same feeling. It has amazingly quick reflexes and a smooth rush of power. Despite its reputation, my car has been amazingly reliable with not one bit of trouble. The key is to be careful with modifications. Overdoing it can quickly produce a blown engine. There are few sportscars that are as pure as the 3rd generation RX-7. Today, perhaps only the Lotus Elise rivals it. Some advice for prospective owners: Adhere strictly to the maintenance schedule. Seat leather and sheet metal are thin. Park away from other cars and condition leather frequently or replace.
Know what you are buying
The car will return in fun tenfold the respect you give it. It is fast and will break loose even the best tires off the line. Needless to say it is not smart to push it in the rain and forget it in snow. Great second car for three season fun. Check the oil every 1k miles, it is designed to burn it. This accounts for a small amount of smoke on start up and one reason they stopped shipping them to the states. Timeless good looks, tire eating power and limited prodution will make this a collector's item.
Dont buy one!
Car looks great! But is a nightmare to work on! Overheating! Blown apex seals, warped rotor housings, seal chatter, Just put an ls2 V8 in it and be done with all the bs!
Excellent car
I bought this car because of its reputation. Since buying it, I've done numerous things to it to improve reliability and performance, and every minute has been a blast. This car still gets lots of looks, and can outperform many faaaaar more expensive cars.
Not a car for the fainthearted
The car does just what a sportscar should do. Thrill. But just like that trophy girlfriend of yours---this sweetheart is HIGH MAINTENANCE. If you are looking for a car you can drive and abuse FORGET THIS ONE and leave the few that are still available to those of us who car enough to keep them pampered.
300hp under 15k
I love this car! Performance: Not reliable my eye. Almost 4 years of daily driving/racing without skipping a beat. Just do all maintenance and you're set. Styling: 10 yr old car that still turn heads.
not a toy
For the those who are into the street scene. You'll be hittin your E's on most cars out there. You'll see me in Milpitas.
Lasting fun car
I've owned a 1979, a 1987 and currently own a 1994 RX-7. I've done maintenance using dealer shop and small local sports car shops. I've not had to replace any engines although a dealer suggested I do exactly that plus the twin turbos for $11,000 20 years ago. Current mileage is 142,000, Car has all original parts. No modifications of note (antenna doesn't count). Recently had to replace hoses to engine and turbos after so many years but no major repairs have been incurred. Might go on auction in a month.

Rotary sport car
This is a fun car to drive. Gas mileage and maintance fees could be costly.

storm door
I always got poor fuel economy can be compared to the Viper with less than half the horsepower. Got the a rebuilt engine and it did not improve much. problem is that Mazda is trying to use a sweep seal(seal at bottom of your entrance storm door) to follow a rather complicated architecture. Anyway when the mechanic changed the coolant he did not fill the radiator properly. The engine overheated & the seals went. After this I did not put more effort into the car and bought a Chev Camaro which I am pleased with.
Poor Mans Ferrari
After more then 40 years of driving experiances I've found the perfect affordable sports car. You can expect performance from this car that you would pay upwards of $50,000 to $100,000 to get from an exotic. I plan to keep this car until I Die, the last time I got this excited about a car was in 1965 when I sat in a 289 AC Cobra. To me the 3rd Gen RX7s will be come a legend.
