I have always wanted a Miata and when the new generation came out I figured it was time to compare the 2005 and 2006. I happened to luck into the limited for which I was told were all spoken for. I purchased number 376 and have never regretted buying it! I have 3000 miles on her and have had no problems. Pros: handling, power, quality, trunk space, convertible top, shifter, controls. Cons: seat belt rides against neck, lack of coin storage, useless center cup holders, more sound deadening.

This is a real sports car -- no leather, no wood, no fancy gizmos, no navigation system, and no ashtray. It's quick but not fast, and it handles like it's on rails. You feel like you're going much faster than you really are because you're sitting low and because of the exhaust note. It also gets great gas mileage. There's enough room in the trunk for a weekend getaway for two -- but that's about it. The top does work with one hand (though I have long arms) and makes one wonder about car companies bragging about how quickly their power tops fold up. If the journey is more important than the destination, this is the car for you.

Great Car

This is my second Miata, and will have a Miata until the day I die. No other car delivers the driving experience the Miata does. It is a rush to drive, but is friendly enough to use everyday. The top can be opened and closed in mere seconds from inside the vehicle, and the trunk is large (and stays large with the top down!). Maintenance is easy, and the reliability can’t be beat. The Miata maneuvers like it is thought controlled, simply think it and the car responds elegantly. I have driving many sports cars, and love most of them, but none compare to the Miata.

I purchased this MX-5 barely used with 11900 miles. I have had a blast with this car driving through the mountains and back roads. Handling is impeccable and crisp. Power is more that adequate and braking is fantastic. It is snug bit comfortable once in the cock pit. Shifting is sweet with it's close ratio gears. Very smooth operation on both highway and back road driving. This is the first manual transmission I've driven in aprox 20 years and it was like riding a bicycle. Mpg has been 34 highway and 27 city. It is noisy with the top up but drop the top and you forget about any noise except the exhaust growl. Great car.

Handles like a real sports car. Has plenty of usable horsepower for the road. Steering is precise. In fact when I drive my other car or my wife's car it feels like something is wrong with the steering on those cars. It's just that the MX-5 is so precise you think where you want to go and it is there. Run Flat tires initially were a bit hard, but I either have gotten use to them after 300 miles or they are broken in. You find yourself wanting to drive this car all the time. Plenty of trunk space for a roadster and the Active Key system eliminates fumbling for your keys. Mazda has a hit. I considered the S2000, Porsche Boxter, SLK350 and the Z4. For my money the '06 MX-5 wins hands down.
