The Perfect

2003 Mazda MPV LX 4dr Minivan (3.0L 6cyl 5A)

After reviewing all of the latest data from Consumer Reports, I was impressed that the the two minivans with the highest scores in reliablity and quality were the MPV and the Sienna (2003 model). The Honda Odeyssey was just too big for our needs. My wife and I drove the 2003 Sienna and we were very disappionted with it's handling, braking, and lack of a fold flat 3rd row. After about 20 minutes in the MPV we bought it on the spot! It was the best looking and the best driving van of the top three rated minivans. If you want the best "Mini" van money can buy, get the MPV. If you need a "Medium" van, then look into the 2004+ Sienna.

Zoom Zoom!

We just picked up a loaded LX zoom zoom demo from Faulkner Mazda in PA and I must say this puppy is the bomb! We were all set to purchase new minus the power doors and DVD system, then the sales person showed us the demo that included every available option for less than the new price. The demo only had 6K miles and came with an extended warranty on the powertrain to 100k and the balance of the 4/50k bumber to bumper factory warranty. All of this for $23,600 !! I say let Sienna and Odyssey beat each other up on price because the MPV is the best kept secret in the industry.

After 4 months and 6,000 miles I am averaging 22/28 mpg (yes, I do drive it nice!). Moves crisply through traffic and parks easily almost anywhere. Love the fold down third seat and the "well" (it's perfect for groceries). Zippy power in the Colorado Rockies (even going up through mtn passes!)Many people have noted the premium price for the ES as compared to the loaded LX version. My only comment is that the leather seats don't create the "static cling" look on business suits and silk dresses. We are totally pleased with our purchase of this van and would strongly recommend it to anyone.

We chose this van over '04 Sienna, not only because of the obvious price difference, but because of the driving experience, and comfort. The MPV is relatively quiet, and there is ample power. The quality of interior and exterior fit and finish can stand with any van on the market. Park Mazda of Akron handled everything in a polite and professional way.

The wife had her heart set on an Odyssey (who doesn't?), then the new Sienna (for some, size DOES matter) until reality set in and cost became a key factor. In willing to compromise on size, I came to Edmunds.com where I learned that the Mazda MPV has that coveted disappearing 3rd row seat, like Honda's and Toyota's. Took a test drive during lunch break, wife drives it later in the day - struck a deal that night. She loves her MPV. No regrets....oh, and no 'egg smell' either. Fire Mazda's marketing crew if the best they can do in selling this wonderful sports van is "zoom zoom"! Zoom, zoom indeed...but it's an even better value.

Beautiful convenient reliable family car

Just got a brand new 2003 LX sand mica (still in wrap when we test drove it). Sharp looking. Ride is quite, smooth and comfortable. Handling and parking is easy. Breaking is confident. A/C is cold. It takes no effort to open or close the manual sliding doors, so I didn't choose the power doors. Like all the features of the 2nd and 3rd row seats (they are big toys for me now). The plastic materials of the front middle table, the storage under passenger seat and the real console feel cheap, but practically usable. Overall a beautiful convenient reliable family car. I also own a 90 323 with 130,000 miles and it still runs well. I hope the MPV will treat me even better.

Overall, the car performs as promised. Quick accelation, excellent handling, and supurb AC (especially for rear seat passengers). Stylish and fast. Great for a small family of 4. Only negative is fumes from exhaust - nasty!

Why pay more for an Odyssey or Sienna?

Just bought an '03 LX, loaded with everything except power doors, moonroof and DVD, and we love it!! Highly recommend the All-Sport package, which makes it look and sound great and comes CHEAP (about $700 invoice). Paid just $100 over invoice (about $23k, and the dealer invoice matched Edmunds to the penny, which the salesman was impressed with!), and got much more than I could have got in a Honda or Toyota for the same price, if I could have even GOT one for that price. Turns heads when you drive it, drives like a car, plenty of power, and plenty of room for a family of 4. No sulphur smell detected yet, only that great new van smell!!

We went from a larger minivan to the MPV and we love it. It handles extremely well, has a lot of pep and is very reliable (a standard 3 yr, 50,000 mile warranty)The cargo room is decieving because the place where the bench seat folds into holds a lot of cargo. We can actually fit more in this van than in our old one because of this well. The rear seat is also larger than it looks and our kids have never complained about the room. You cannot beat this van compared to others on the market. Mazda has excellent customer service and they back up their product. Don't let the size fool you. You won't be dissapointed with the van.

We've had our Mazda now for about a month and it has been on two road trips. I love the design, size and flexibility of the interior. The ride seems a little harsh, but I previously drove a big American sedan which was pretty plush. My 2-year-old daughter loves that she can see out of the huge rear windows. The rear air easily handles the South Carolina summer heat. This is a really, really good van!

I've been across the USA in the van, with my wife and 3-children. There was plenty of room for our stuff. It was a comfortable drive and ride. There are some creature comforts that could be added, based upon what we're used to with our other vehicle, a VW Jetta with the works. But all in all, its a nice van, equal to the Honda van in performance, handling and comfort, and, with a sticker price comparable to the Honda, about $3,500 less in price (rebate applied.) I highly recommend it.

Absolutely the worst vehicle I've ever owned. Purchased with 84000 miles, at 88000 the transmission blows up (luckily it was under warranty). Two weeks after trans is replaced, the famous ill-designed PCV hose has to be replaced (not under warranty, cost $300). Now it refuses to run in the rain - water apparently getting into the other famously ill-designed item: coil packs have a vent that allows water to get into pack and interfere with spark! Do yourself a favor and avoid Mazda products - I can guarantee I will avoid like a plague!

We just purchased a Midnight Blue Mica MPV LX with the following accessories: Traction control, side airbags, 4 season pkg, luggage rack for under 20G. With 2,000 cash back, nice standard features and dealers willing to go below invoice price, You can't go wrong with the MPV. No buyer remorse here. Did I mention - 5 star crash ratings.
