Used 1992 Mazda MPV Consumer Reviews
Owned since New
We have had the van since the birth of our third son. I like it because it is a 5 speed and is very comfortable. We recently replaced the engine with 55800 miles (90000 km). I also prefer it to a new one because it has no airbags. It has been annually rustproofed and has little rust.
Nice value
This is not your normal minivan. The hinged rear doors make it seem more like a large station wagon. The only thing that needed major repair was the A/C. After 12 years the compressor started leaking and had to be replaced, but I live in AZ and use it A LOT. Otherwise, very dependable although the transmission isn't the smoothest shifter around.
My favorite car!
This vehicle has lasted a very very long time, with little or no maintenance almost all years. We hate to replace it. If Mazda was still building the 4WD into its minivans, I'd get another!
Surprisingly Great Car
We bought our 1991 Mazda new in 1991. Except for normal replacements of tires, brakes, muffler system, radiator, battery, and ignitor, the van has run great for 12 years and 180000 miles - original engine and transmission. After 180,000 miles and 12 years we were considering an Oddesey only because the new Mazda vans don't allow the back and middle seats to fold down to make a flat bed for sleeping. Recent reviews on used Oddesys's convinced us to keep our 91 van and keep up the routine maintenance.
When it breaks, I'll sell it...
260,000 plus miles. Bought it new. 4cylinder automatic. No problems I couldn't fix myself, although I'm a mechanical engineer by training. Hasn't been babied, but never abused, either. Used as a daily driver to ferry kids and cargo, and commute. Little rust for its age. Interior, except for stained floormats, is almost as new. Everything still works. Tires, belts, hoses, plugs/wires, shocks/struts, brakes, and battery have been replaced. An ignition module and radiator were the only significant failures. Hoping to find a late model "tall wagon" as a replacement that'll give as good of service.
