2024 Mazda CX-50 Consumer Reviews

Good but not as good as my 2020 CX5
Lots of rattles and squeaks. Brake pedal even squeaks and clunks when depressed. Off to dealer less than two months in... Fit and finish was better on my 3.5 year old CX5. Mixed mileage is 21. Never get close to EPA even on highway. Love the turbo power. Overall solid car. would def not rate it #1 in category. Wifes 2023 CRV def has better quality fit and finish. better gas mileage with similar on the line power. Cx5 is the better Mazda. Id take a look at CX5 or CRV before buying this car. CX-50 overhyped. Im only 2 months --2300 miles in-- don't hate it. don't love it. Already have a service call. if they cant fix all the rattles I’ll probably dump it... not tight enough to justify the monthly payment. The driver seat is the most uncomfortable seat I have ever sat in. Total miss from the cx5. Love the leather — Again I’d rate it top 5.. but number 3-4 in category at best — UPDATE: I had reviewed at 2k miles but wanted to be fair so here is review at 10k miles. The Bad : Two trips to dealer for fit and finish - rattles - squeaks. third trip this Friday - they fix and its rattling and squeaking shortly thereafter. MPG at 60/40 is 21.5. Even on a 15 hour all highway trip I'm only at 23.5. EPA is seriously overrated. Seats are hard and uncomfortable and create fatigue at any trip over an hour or two. The Good : The turbo rocks. Love it. Handling is good. Not as good as my old CX-5 but good. Its heavy but manageable. The car inside and out is a head turner and beautiful. The terracotta leather is wearing well and is stunning. Summary: My wifes 2023 EX-L CRV with 15k miles has been to the dealer 0 times over 18 months for something other than an oil change. My CX-50 has been twice in half the time and half the miles, with no resolution and a third visit coming up. MPG is no where near advertised. Turbo is fun, drive is spirited and great for an SUV. CRV is alot better on a long trip with more comfortable seats. The CX50 is definitely sexier. but im lowering the stars from a 4 to a 3, because this car just isnt worth the hype and isnt near as livable day in and day out as the CRV. and they are the same price. The dealers cant fix the squeaks and rattles.

Almost Perfect Great Handling
Pros: Great Handling, focus on driving dynamics, nicer upscale interior. 90 percent of time I drive alone. Feels larger than a compact SuV. Enjoy the lower ride feel. Averaging between 26-30 mpg. Cons: Driver seat too short, lacks leg support.. Infotainment bugs: can add fav station multiple times. Everytime you access satellite radio stations take you back to station 1 versus station you are on.. Lots of scrolling. I like the knob. Cell charger is poor design. Long phones don't fit. No USB C charging.

Really likeable thing
We had a -20 CX-5 and had thought we’d keep it for a very long time. It was a really good car and looked like new - but then my dealer gave me an offer I couldn’t refuse on a new CX-50. So these two cars are obviously very similar, but I’m still happier than I thought with the upgrade. The chassis tuning is a little bit better, while the CX-5 always drove nice “for being an SUV” the CX-50 drives nice without any asterisk. It’s just a little bit more planted, a little bit more agile. It’s also a tad quieter. But the most important difference is the front seats. The CX-5 seats always felt a bit small. They were not bad, but also not great. The CX-50 seats are really nice. Firm, well shaped and have a pretty attractive fabric that feels good. I didn’t think I would like the CX-50 this much but I really do. Just a very well rounded car. Update 6 months later - Yes, this car is just right. It’s not flashy, not fast - but it’s darn good at doing all the things an everyday car should do.

Snazzy & Sporty!!
We got my wife a 2024 turbo premium plus cx50 using the generous 0% financing. It’s our fourth consecutive Mazda purchase. I love this car. In sport mode it absolutely rips. I have a zx14 motorcycle so I know what fast is. The turbo cx50 isn’t that kind of fast but it handles like a sports car and gives you way more oomph than you would ever need. The electronics and driver’s aids are abundant. She is learning what all the beeps and chimes mean. The 20” rims are pleasing to the eye and high quality like the rest of the car. What some folks may not like: very firm ride, road noise, some wind noise. The seats are firm but I haven’t had any problems with that. I think the cup holders are too far forward, but ymmv. MPG is not great. We knew the negatives prior to purchasing but I just couldn’t get excited about a RAV4 or a CRV. Compared to those two this cx50 is a Ferrari

Love all but ONE thing...
I recently purchased this car and overall the car itself seems to be great. I have one MAJOR complaint...the MyMazda app. It is so glitchy it's mostly unusable. It takes forever to load and when I want to remote start - it generally takes 5-10 minutes of going in and out of the app in hopes of it working. If I had a remote start button on the fob, it would be no big deal for me. Mazda, this is ridiculous! You can only remote start using the app but the app consistently doesn't work. After 3 years, theoretically we will have to pay for the app. I'm about ready to spend $500 having an aftermarket key fob that allows remote start. Had I known this issue I would have looked more that the CRV or RAV4...just saying.

Pretty BUT Painful
This vehicle is a total tempter. Great looking interior and exterior. Technology is spot on. and the turbo engine is very responsive. BUT THOSE SEATS. OH WOW HORRIBLE. Every time I sit in the vehicle I cannot get comfortable. It's the equivalent of a pebble in your shoe. Only worse. And they are a constant reminder of the terrible purchasing decision I made. Test drives do not give you an adequate chance to know a vehicle. My advice, rent this one first and take a long drive if you doubt me. Don't be like me and spend the $50K to find out. My back kills after 30 minutes, and even on the shortest of rides I am constantly making adjustments. If Mazda would just change out these seats, I'd love the vehicle. Until then...HORRIBLE! Update: 18 months later and I still cannot stress enough just how horribly uncomfortable the seats are. Since purchased I have additionally discovered that the wireless phone charger does not work. I've taken it in to the dealer 3 times and each time I'm told it's fine. Last visit the service rep told me it's a known problem but Mazda Corporate is not acknowledging it leaving the dealers little else to do. Lastly, the mileage is terrible especially in the city (16 mpg in the city, 27 mpg freeway.)

2024 Mazda CX-50
We bought our new 2024 Mazda CX-50 last week. It is an awesome car. The drive and handling are exceptional. It has plenty of power and a smooth ride even better in sport mode. The interior and exterior are sharp looking. It has a lot of features and a very competitive price compared to other models.
Worst seats
First off, I want to be fair and say that like other Mazdas, the CX-50 is fun to drive, attractive and practical. Great cargo space, love the cross stitching on the dash and actually find the infotainment to be consistent and less buggy than the majority of modern cars. All that said, the seats are atrocious. I made a big mistake not taking this for an extended test drive. Consistently, about 45 to 1 hour after starting a long drive, my butt starts to hurt and by the end, it is extremely uncomfortable. I sit there wishing the trip would end. This car has a good value proposition that is destroyed by terrible seats. Do yourself a favor and make sure these seats work for you before making a financial mistake.

Love it
I've only had the Mazda CX5 for a day, but I already love it. Driving it is easy & it's a breeze to park (previous vehicle was a Silverado) it has so many bells & whistles, it may take a year or 2 for me to learn how to use them all! That's because I'm old school. Actually, I'm just old.
OMG 😱 Sunroof👎🏻
The beautiful Panoramic sunroof only opens 1/3 of the opening??whats the point of that? Xtra cost of Pearl paint trim not in the inside of doors? Bluetooth keeps dropping. Trunk wont open while the car is on-safety feature? Still annoying.

1. Fun to drive 2. Fun to drive 3. Did i say it's fun to drive. 4. Very nice interior, not perfect but better than most in it's class, only knock the rear doors could have been more plush. 5. Fuel economy could be better, especially since you just want to open this CUV up when the road clears, the power comes on fast when merging or rolling. 6. Firm ride, if you want that Cadillac road feel this CUV is not for you, however if you are a driver and like to feel planted to the road this CUV is for you. Cornering is fantastic at speed. 7. The tech is awesome especially, the hold and stop, the stop and go traffic cruise control, the cornering headlights and the auto high beams, as well as the HUD feature 8.Seat comfort 9. SOUND SYSTEM!!!!!!!!! 10. FUN CUV to drive.

Cx50 base model
The cx 50 is a really nice riding car . We are quite pleased with the base trim . 17 inch tires really suck up the bad roads .we test drove the turbo model as well , but did not like the ride from The low profile tires or the panoramic roof . Thr na engine has enough power . We've been averaging 27 mpg with 50 50 city highway . It's hilly here not much flat ground . The only complaint I have is the behavior of the transmission . In some situations it searches between gears . Driving in sport or using the manual shift function gets arround the issue . If it would hold it's gear a bit longer it would be perfect .

Absolute fail!
Traded in my 21 cx5 for the new cx50, big mistake. The pickup is awful, the panoramic moonroof rattles and only opens about 6 inches. The night mode on rear view mirror can not be shut off and the doors do not stay open upon exiting. The phone charger is useless as it's so slow and the cup holders can't hold anything bigger than a small coffee cup as the radio is in the way. Wish I could turn back time and not make the biggest mistake of my life buying this lemon
My wish I had known list
I bought the 2024 PPT trim. The good - it's a good looking vehicle, cooling seats are great, the turbo engine is very zippy and fun to drive. I'm sorry to say that's where the good ends. There are several annoying features that had I have known, I can say for sure, I wouldn't have bought this vehicle. First, the remote start is NOT on the Fob, you have to use the MyMazda app to remote start the vehicle, dumb and inconvenient. Once you remote start the car, the second you open the door to get into your nice cool or warm vehicle, the engine shuts off. I didn't think would make a big difference with vehicle temperature, but it does, especially since the ac isn't exactly the greatest in getting the vehicle cool to begin with. Heated steering wheel is not entirely heated! Only if you drive with your hands on the sides of the steering wheel. If you're like most and have 1 hand on top of the wheel, no heat for you! The info system is horrible! Not intuitive at all! You can change radio stations using the controls on the steering wheel, but you can't change Sirius stations using those same controls. You have to use the little knob in the center console. No easy way to switch from radio to Sirius, way too many pushes of a button to go back and forth. Radio automatically turns on when I start the car, even if it was off when I last turned the car off. Dumb! Wiper fluid comes out of the wipers, not from the bottom of the windshield, which doesn't clean very well. Gas tank is smaller than most, leading to more fill-up trips. This SUV was ranked extremely high on several websites that review vehicles. I can't imagine that all of the items I listed are only important to me. After having this vehicle for just about 5 months, I've decided I'm going to sell it and get something else that doesn't have all this one's "quirks". Think twice people! Looks aren't everything!

One year ownership report, Mazda CX-50
It's been just about a year of owning and driving this vehicle in suburban commuting and errand driving and three camping trips which included off-road miles. I'll start review with: Pros: The handling is great. Responsive and secure at the same time, on highway driving, curvy secondary roads and city streets. I find the power from the non-turbo adequate if not super quick. Shifting into Sport mode affords some extra juice when needed. Driver's seat is supportive and comfortable. I like the knobs and buttons for climate control and audio; safer and easier to use than a touchscreen once learned. Fuel consumption is pretty reasonable, especially at highway speeds. The Mazda has done just fine on light off-road duty, about equal to the Subaru I had previously. I love the look of the car. Cons: Yes, the transmission can stumble a bit in lower gears when the car is not fully warmed up. My vehicle required two visits to dealer in early months to fix faulty tailgate, a body rattle and a suspension issue. All good now, although during cooler weather the steering wheel sometimes makes an odd "sawing" sound while doing a full turn. Summary: About the best car I could have purchased for my particular driving needs, I believe.
I’m beyond satisfied.
What I like are its advanced technology and its comfortable seats.

My big girl car
Didn’t realize how much I would love driving a SUV again. I had a Mazda3 grand touring and I loved zipping around, but the Cx50 makes me really want to chill out and enjoy the ride.
great Maz
It fits my needs, an SUV with economy & safety features galore. Great for trips with 2 people and a dog! Only negative is it is slightly smaller inside than I would like. But the transmission is great(Torque Converter+gears) vs Rubber Bands CVT.

Loving my 24 CX50
I came from owning 10 Hondas, and absolutely love my 24 Preferred. I hated the looks at first, but every time I took my 21 CX5 Carbon Edition in for service it looked a little better. Surprisingly the CX50 drives better than my CX5. It gets 450 miles per tank which is better. I love the interior more. And I bought my wife a 24 Premium Plus for my wife

Not worth it
We purchased a 2024 CX50 in September 2023, and only have 26 thousand miles on it. 4 times now I have had to take the vehicle in for service due to the seat frame coming apart. It rattles like a 8-10 year old truck as we drive down the road and Mazda says that they can’t do anything about it because they can’t hear anything. This last time today. The repair didn’t even last an hour before the seat frame separated again. Also the be Apple wireless system has not worked since the day I bought it. Funny how Mazda says it is an Apple problem and of course Apple claims that it is a Mazda issue. Either way neither side will do anything about it for customers I would not recommend a CX50 to anyone.

Candy Apple Red
I switched my problematic jeep in for the CX-50...I did extensive research before test driving. It would not recommend a turbo due to the seats and the uncomfortability of them. I got a standard premium CX-50 with a sunroof. I love the CX-50 have never had issues with it. Excited to see what it does in the snow. Handling is heavy. Car is heavy and feeling protective. Plenty of cargo room. I also got the cargo topper for it as we travel a lot as a family. Gas mileage does meet standards average out between 24 in town and 26.8 on highway. Overall extremely satisfied with purchase. Hope it will be a car I can pass down to my oldest daughter.

It’s stiff!
A little underpowered for a turbo, but smooth and quiet. If not for the hard, stiff seating, I would take the wheel.

Miss our Tucson!
Loved it after our test drive. That was the last. Trans is twitchy. Front suspension squeaks. No key fob remote start. Need a special sequence to get the wipers up out of the cowl to clear snow from the tunnel. "Safety" warnings abound! Dash is more like a video game. Can't stand the amount of electronic nonsense. Less than 5000 miles and can't wait to dump it!

Absolutely loathed this car - cheap garbage
I am the kind of person to drive a car for a decade or more and that was my intention with this one. 14 months after purchase, i traded it and will never own a mazda again. The problems: seat seams at the bottom of the passenger seat started separating within weeks of purchase; mazda claimed there was no fix. Actually filed a lemon complaint about this but didn’t really pursue it. Rear view mirror literally detached in my hand several times while i was adjusting it. Mazda said it was a “safety feature” lol. The seats are godawful and it’s a common complaint and one you cannot discover on a quick test drive. Absolute cheap trash for the price point. Never again.

Waaaay Overrated Buzzmobile
What a POS. The only good thing about this car is the way it looks. Buzzy, rattle trap with cheap plastics, uncomfortable seats, jiggly nervous ride and base model is very slow. Transmission hunts for gears on the slightest hill. RAV-4 and Tiguan are MUCH better diving cars if not better looking.

Terrible!
Drive the Mazda CX 50, I did not like the backup camera, the constant down shifting every time you hit a small grade but by far the dealership was the worse.

Not an offroader by any means, poor build quality.
The Mazda CX-50 should not be called an off-road vehicle. With the stock oem tires, the vehicle's AWD system has a tough time with just a few inches of snow. The CX-50 looks nice and drives OK. It has a firm ride, feels sporty and has nice touches...more on that later. The non-turbo will not beat the likes of a Honda CRV EX, Rav 4, or even a CX-5. The CX-50 tries to feel "premium" but it lacks build quality. In fact the 24 CX-5 Select feels much more premium compared to the 24 CX-50 Premium Plus. In colder weather the OEM tires needs to be constantly filled with air dur to loss of tire pressure. Literally everyday during winter, the TMPS sensors say low tire pressure. The brakes were grinding at only 13,700 miles. - Comfortable but not for longer drives. The seats hurt the back and legs during long ride. - Decent handling but the CX-5 does a better job. - Sure footed on dry pavement. - Bose sound system is good, the audio controls take some learnig but the display has a touch screen. - Plenty of room for four people, with a decent amount of trunk space. - The panoramic sunroof is a nice touch. - Lack of power when starting from a red light. Sport mode makes a tad better. - Front radar - safety feature gets disabled when it rains or snows. - The remote start system in the app is horrific. The app is clunky also. - The OEM tires will need to be replaced at around 15,000 miles.

Fun car to drive in the mountains!
Love the handling of this vehicle. So confident on curvy mountain highway. Love the look and the interior is much more upscale than any of the competitors and I tried them all. I put Falcon trail tires on it and it just makes the look of the vehicle pop! Also, handles well in snow. The seats are fine. Comfortable. Only small complaint is the heavy steering takes a bit to get use to, but it keeps you engaged … which you should be because your driving a car not a couch! Also, gas mileage is not great for this segment, but I didn’t buy it for that reason. If you are concerned about that… buy an ugly Prius and be happier at the pump. Me, I’d rather be happier on the road. Love my CX 50
Zoom, Zoom a drivers car
A fantastic drivers car that has a well appointed interior and a sports tuned suspension. It handles amazing well and has sufficient power even with no turbo. The quality of materials and the fit is impressive. My wife loves the heads up display, the Bose sound system and the automatic high beam features. It is taking a while to get used to all the techy stuff, but it is a new SUV, that feels more sports car like.

The car so far is amazing
Could be better- Reconsider before buying
Bought my ‘24 NTPP back in August of 2024. At first, I loved the car. It looks great and it has all the features I could ask for. However, after several months of owning the car my positive feelings turned negative. First things first are the seats. My god are they uncomfortable! Probably the worse I’ve ever felt in a car. I travel a lot and usually drive 1-2 hours at a time. After 30 minutes of the drive, Im already uncomfortable. The second thing I strongly dislike about this car is how it drives. The acceleration lag is awful, especially driving up hills. I’ll be pressing the gas and nothing will happen and then all of a sudden the car will get a big burst of power. Not smooth whatsoever. It’s also noticeable while merging on the highway. You also feel EVERY bump and crack on the road. I really want to trade this car in but the value of this car TANKED. I owe several thousands more than what it’s worth so now Im stuck with it. Now I just try to stay positive and grateful that I have a car. My mom just got the Honda CRV hybrid touring and it’s better than my CX50 in every way. I even considered looking at the CRV before the CX50 but it was the 1.9% interest rate that sold me. You live and you learn I guess! Definitely do your research before signing papers!
