Can't Beat It
After looking at the malibu LTZ (v6), accord EX-L v6, and altima the choice was obvious for me. Mazda all the way. I have never owned a mazda, but the features and amenities are 2nd to none and with current manufacturer rebates/incentives, I simply couldn't walk away. I ended up getting my loaded mazda 6 grand touring at about 3400 under invoice. The mazda6 is still relatively new, so its nice to not be one of the crowd.
Couldn't be happier
I put off buying a new mid-size sedan for a couple of months as I knew the '09 Mazda6 was coming in August. The wait was 100% worth it. It's the best looking car in its class without question. The interior is easily a full class ahead of the Camry, Accord, Altima, or Malibu. As with most Mazdas, the handling is excellent making it a pure joy to drive. I can't imagine anyone test driving all the mid-size sedans out there and not picking the 6. The features/fit/finish etc are closer to a Lexus ES350 than a Camry. This car is going to own the magazine mid-size comparison tests for at least 2-3 years.

Mazda Does It Big Time!
I've owned 17 new cars in 35 years of driving. This is truly my top 2 car besides my BMW. Car rides flawless & quality is just terrific! I bought my car loaded with sound & navigation packages. Everything works just perfect as it should! I traded my 08 Nissan Coupe & have zip regrets! Anyone that has a bad thing to say is down right jealous or can't afford it!
Wow
I purchased this vehicle 2 weeks ago. I have driven this vehicle hard as well as babied it, the response from the throttle to the engine is immediate. The new look is completely amazing, love the new look. The interior is very roomy and comfortable even for a "big" person (5'8 300) plenty of leg room in the back. Bluetooth Is very reliable. MPG could be better I'm getting about 19 or so miles to the gallon so far.
Fun to drive
I recently purchased an '09 6i Touring with the 6 CD changer & moonroof, along with a rear spoiler. My 2004 Mazda 3i was totaled so I wasn't in "car buying" mode, but I'm glad I stayed with Mazda. I went with the 4-cyl, which is starkly different than Edmund's review of the V6. The ride is very quiet, and I get good gas mileage (1600 mi, ~24mpg combined.) The acceleration is great, most noticeably between 50mph - 75mph, even in auto. The braking is excellent too. As nimble as my 3i was, I feel like the 6i has excellent handling for it's larger size. I've also fit 4 grown adults in the car, and they've all commented how much legroom they have. Mazda got it right again!
Style & Zoom-Zoom
Looked at Honda Accord and Nissan Altima but Mazda6 beat them for style, fun and value. With the S plan and rebates the price i paid was unbeatable. The Mazda6 combines RX8 style and sportiness with refined drive and amazing space. Just too much all-round appeal for me and this in now my 4th Mazda.
I'm lovin it....
From the date of purchase I loved this car and the way it handles, it thrills me whenever I drive this car on the highway to find out how fast it can accelerate with little effort.
I'm SO pleased!
I have been driving a beat up 99 Ford Escort for the past 6 years and couldn't wait to get rid of it. I finally got my first job and within a few months was ready to make my purchase. I originally decided on an mx-5 Miata but once I saw the new 6, changed my mind. I just couldn't justify paying the price for the mx-5 when I could get a fully loaded 6 for less. Went to the dealership this morning and drove away with a gorgeous i touring with convenience package in comet gray. The color is stunning and the car is amazing. I paid 500 below invoice and drove away in a car that some have already mistaken for a Lexus. Couldn't be happier.
Better than our Accord
We just picked up the '09 6 GT to replace a leased Ford; all around, it's better/more fun to drive than our '08 Accord. A quieter ride, more surefooted feel, nice build quality, great looks/lighting, etc. Love the Bluetooth and BMS, along with the advanced keyless system. Very satisfied.
Good Bang For The Buck
Before I buy I always look at the field of cars in the class. When I came across the 6 I had to knock out the Accord, Camry and all the like. What comes on the car as standard are for the most part options or not even available on competitors (Xenon head lights). Once you pop on a few options you've got a car equipped more like a premium class car. This car really is a lot of value for the money. I've only had mine for a short while and I'm not sorry one bit I bought it. As far as I'm concerned Toyota and Honda have some catch to do to match the new 6. This is one heck of a value for well under 30 G.
So glad I chose the 6 over the Taurus
Pros: one of the best looking cars on the road today, great features (mine is fully loaded, minus remote start), and an overall extremely fun ride. Cons: none, well, just wish Ford would have allowed cooled seats to be put into the 6.
Best in Class...With Style
Checked out a comparable Accord, Camry, and Altima and only the Altima came close to this vehicle. Though the Touring model isn't the top trim for the 6i, it's still a feature-laden auto with many amenities that you will find you can't live without. Stability/traction control, trip computer, MP3 capable stereo and advanced key (no key start and door-locks) just to name a few. Handling/engine power is great, road/wind noise is low, and interior and controls are well laid-out. If you don't think the Mazda6 has the features/power/build quality that you are looking for, be prepared to pay $10,000 more to get what you want.
I love my Mazda 6 (Zoom Zoom)
we finally made a choice between the mazda 6 and the ultima. love the maual mode and all the goodies that come with the mazda 6.
2009 Mazda MAZDA6
Bought the car about 2 weeks ago, and love it. The day after buying it went on a 2k mile trip. The looks are amazing and the power is awesome. Can you say 272 hp and 268 torque?
Best Mid-Sized Sedan
I got the Mazda 6 iTouring with convenience package. I looked at the Accord, Camry, Altima, Fusion, and Jetta - Mazda 6 is at the top of its class. The only other car I was considering was the Accord, but I found the Mazda to have better overall value for the money, and the exterior/interior styling is a bit better. The speed, ride, and handling of this car is excellent. I find myself taking fast turns for no reason because it's simply just fun to do. The quietness of the car is very good - my dad, who has drives Mercedes, was even impressed with the quietness. If you're looking at the Touring model, I would highly suggest the convenience package - excellent value for the money.
Excellent!! Top of the lot
This car wins the competition amongst camry, accord, etc. The new 2009 mazda doesn't lose out on what you'd expect from a traditional sedan (lots of space, loads of features...blows away the competition, fuel mileage, etc). Add to this the fun factor of driving this car, it blows all other cars in this segment out the water. It's the best buy for the money in this segment. I'm really enjoying driving my car.
Worth the Wait
We were ready to replace our old Mazda6 back in April of this year, but decided to wait for the 2009. I'm glad we did, for this vehicle is so much better. It has a larger interior, larger trunk and we opted for the i Grand Touring with remote keyless doors and ignition, dual zone climate control, leather heated seats and we opted for the moonroof and sound upgrade package. The car still handles great like the older version but is so much more comfortable.
Very good car
I have had the car for just about a month. City and highway drive is about 50/50 and have average mileage above 26 mpg (based on my calculation on 3 tank refills). Trunk is the largest in its class but the opening could be bigger. I have two children sit in back seat and seems rear windows are bit high for them to see outside. Ride is quiet and comfortable. The boss sound does its job nicely. The 6 speed manual transmission is very smooth and fun to shift. Blue tooth system is easy to use and very helpful. Blind spot monitor is a good feature but only works when speed is above 20 mph. lots of air bags and traction control and stability control are standard. Just love it.
Update on December Review
We've had our Mazda6 since December now and have close to 9000 miles on it. I wrote in my initial review we loved the car and hoped it would be as reliable as all of our other Mazda's have been. Switched oil to Mobil 1 synthetic at the first change. We average 22.4 around town and 28.3 on the road. The car is as good as our 04 as it is rock solid, totally reliable but it is more comfortable than our 04 Mazda6. It is a great car and we love it. The V-6 has more than enough power and I find the fuel economy pretty fair. All in all we are very pleased with the car and look forward to driving it for years to come.
Whau
They may call it the poor mans Lexus, but this car has it all at a significantly lower price tag. Plenty of cargo space, BSM, Bluetooth, 6CD player, and Zoom Zoom!
New Car
We have just purchased this car and have driven it about 1500 mile, including a trip of 1100 miles and have loved every minute of it. So far it has performed to perfection. It has more bells and whistles than I knew existed but they all work and are quite useful. Would recommend this car to anyone and the dealer C & S Car Co. in Waterloo, Iowa. It far surpasses the 02 Altima we traded on it.
New but staisified owner
I bought this car less than a month ago but already love it. Coming from owning a Corvette, modified BMW, 69 Camaro among others, I must say this is one excellent car. It's not as demanding to drive as the Vette, or a nimble as my old 3 series, yet driving it reminds me of both in its own way. It has excellent power in the V6, is extremely tossable with great balance for a front driver. Power is completely smooth and linear, and shifts are crisp. Gas mileage isn't bad, but it's not great either, 6th gear seems a bit too short. It has 5 others to have fun!
Finally feel like a Dad!
I bought this car with a 2-year old son in mind. I needed a four door car with a little sportiness to it. I found it in the 2009 Mazda 6. I was impressed with the overall design of this car. I considered it better than the American cars I saw on the road. It had the right amount of power for my taste and the amenities are extraordinary. I got the iTouring with the Bose system, it has some kick. The 2.5 4 suits me fine, but the fuel economy was a little lacking, but thats ok. The quality and design are the reason I got this car and I left the dealer feeling pretty satisfied.
WOW
Was sure I was buying the V-6 Accord, but after test driving both, it was no contest. The Mazda 6 has much better handling & power, interior quality & looks. Bose is great, keyless entry & pushbutton ignition cool! Trunk huge as is back seat. Handles like a sports car but ride is soft. 6 cylinder is powerful & quiet. Only have it a few weeks but very happy so far. Averaging 21 mpg in combined driving. Have an 05 Mazda 3 with 45,000 miles with no problems, hope this one is as reliable
Finally a car I like.
I just bought the car and I couldn't be happier. I took it for a test drive in a West Michigan snow storm and it walked though the snow (The Wrangler that was traded in for it was in 4x4 and sliding). I was planning on purchasing a MKZ until I sat in the Mazda6. Hands down and $ for $ the 6 beat out Lincoln. Best choice I have ever made.
Straight "10's"
Having checked out all the obvious competition, we felt we had to compare the Mazda6 to something better as it beat all the regulars. We liked the styling of the 2009 Lexus IS250 a lot and did a side by side comparison. The bottom line: a loaded 6 versus a loaded IS250 was $7800 less even after getting a deal offer on the Lexus. The IS still didn't have all the features available with the 6. The choice was simple then. Driving the car shows that the Zoom Zoom hasn't been lost. It is just fun to drive, gets good gas mileage and has all the toys you would ever want in a car. The proof is in the drive. Don't buy a car without test driving the 6. It drove better than the IS and we are thrilled.
Gem of a Car
I drive about 25K miles per year, and I replace my cars every two years with new ones. The last car I loved was my 2002 Passat. I finally found the perfect replacement in the Mazda6. Ride, quietness, interior, and handling are exceptional. The engine is good, though not as eager as the Passat. IMHO the newer Passats just are not as pleasing. Mileage on country back roads is about 30. Oh yes, the interim cars I had were Acura TSX and Saturn Aura. Sorry, just no emotional connection with either. Do try a 6. Price is right, and you will not be disappointed. I have come to like the car more, the more I drive it. The 6 has an attitude I like.
2009 Mazda 6 i Touring w/Conv pkg
I have to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed the 1,200 miles driven on my Mazda 6 since the purchase. I decided to go with the 2.5L instead of the 6 cyl because of the commute that I have and with gas prices on the steady rise the choice was simple. When looking to replace my Mazda 3 (manual), I looked at many different vehicles, but in the end came back to the Mazda 6. The 2.5 has plenty of get-up and go for everyday driving. I also like the new interior n the 09 models. No offense to Toyota, but Mazda takes first in that category. As far as fuel economy, I am averaging 28+ mpg with blended driving of highway and city. Not bad for a car this size. Great Job Mazda
Impression after 3000 miles
The new Mazda 6 (i touring) is a good car with decent features. Disappointments are: Travel computer is masked by clock. One or the other is visible at a time. The Travel info button is hidden. There is no auto headlight feature standard. You must spend about 1500-1600 more to get the xenon package. The auto on should be standard! Very irritating after having auto on on previous vehicle. Center console armrest is poorly padded. It is adequate at best. The radio is not the best quality. I find myself constantly adjusting the bass/treble to get a decent sound. Also no auto text scrolling for file names. Gas mileage has averaged 23-24 mpg with mostly highway driving. Brakes are just ok
Our fifth Mazda!
I agree with everyone's comments on the new Mazda 6. We're already a "Mazda family" but this one is the best we've ever had. The ride is superb, and the electronics are awesome..especially the push-button start and the blind spot monitoring system. We're getting 27-29 MPG with the 2.5 4 and I know it will improve with age. If you're considering another vehicle, drive the Mazda 6. You'll end up buying it, just like I did!
6i Grand Touring
After driving the Mazda6, none of the other cars I tested (Altima, Accord, Legacy, Camry) could match the combination of features/performance/style. The acceleration is better than I expected with a 4cyl and the suspension has an excellent balance between handling and comfort. The Michelin tires do squeal too early though. The dashboard is very intuitive and easy to use. The GT has more features than I know what to do with. I especially love the blue tooth connection for my cell phone. The only minor disappointment is the gas mileage. After 2 months, I'm only getting 21 mpg in combo city/highway driving but that's a small price to pay for an excellent car.
Great car to drive.
Performance wise this car has more than enough zip and agility to make any ride to the local grocery store a treat. On the highway the throttle is not as responsive as one might think and the hesitation of the automatic gear box will take a second or two to pick up. The lower profile Michelin tires are comfortable but bumps and ridges in the road can definitely be felt. The interior is probably what turns me on the most with great dashboard controls and information that is very useful. I love the miles remaining on tank display. BSM is a huge plus and a great safety feature. The info button is tough to get to while driving. In all this was one of my favorite decisions in a car.
The more I drive it, the less I like it
There are way too many problems popping up with my Mazda6. So much so I am trading it in on something else. Headlight lenses that collect condensate. A/C that causes condensation on the dashboard. The car is 6 months old and it's got problems that shouldn't be occurring in an auto.
Good car overall
Bought a Mazda6 iTouring with Convenience package, includes Bluetooth, leather trimmed seats, power driver seat, Blind Spot Monitoring system, Dual climate control, steering mounted audio controls, HID headlights, tire pressure monitor, Information display which shows MPG, temperature, time, miles remaining, etc. Inspection not due for another 4 years. Build quality of the car is great. Instrumentation panel is sleek. Definitely has sporty appearance. Cant comment too much on the ride right now b/c I bought it today. Driver seat is not the most comfortable, but it might take some getting used to. I will post again after I have put some mileage on the car.
Love it
I compared this car to every manufacturers competitive model. The 6 won hands down. I've always driven fords and have been happy with performance but not with styling. This 6 has been not only a pleasure to drive but I've yet to be out and about without a compliment on the new look. Keep up the good work Mazda. I can't wait for the next upgrade!
Awesome!!!
I have to say I'm blown away at how perfect this car is. You want interior space?? you got it. You want power? this car has a lot of muscle!!! you want safety?? 5 star rating all around!!! The mazda6 is elegant looking but handles like a sports car. Gas mileage is better than what the advertisement says. I get 21 in the city, 29 in the highway.
side view mirrors small
Great car for the $$$ coming from infinity g35. Still impresses. Kinda a poor mans infinity
Exquisite!!
This car has state-of-the-art features seen only in luxury cars. And it's not cheap/unreliable, everything has worked flawless (rainsense wipers with sensitivity setting, keyless entry, bluetooth, blind-spotmonitor, driver+passenger side temp ctrl, driver seat that memorizes each driver's setting based on key, ability to roll windows using remote fob, ability to close windows/sunroof from outside, awesome bose speakers, audio with DVR like rew/fwd to a previously played track (it has memory!), ability to fold rear seat with 60/40 split, fuel consumption monitor. mpg: The consumption monitor is great driving aid. Without it I avg 21, but after using it I avg 23 (becoming a better mpg driver!)
09 MAZDA6-S grand touring
This is my second mazda6, I bought the four cyl one last December. I love this car sooo much I had to have the v6 model. Now I have 2. Fantastic vehicle. Hands down blows away the Nissan altima/Honda accord/and Camry. For the money this is the best car around. The competition dollar for dollar is blown away. You gotta test drive this car. Dealers eager to negotiate price. Great handling characteristics, so fun to drive!
COMPETITION IS NONE
Just like the title states. Test drove the Honda Accord; wasn't comfortable. Test drove the Nissan Altima; on the slow side. This is my second Mazda, my first was a Millenia s. Luxury with an attitude. Same goes for the new 6, handling is crisp, suspension feels sporty, ride is smooth and comfortable. More bang for the buck if you ask me. I just fell in love with this car.
Amazing ride
Love this car! Have been driving since April and it is now mid September. I can't tell you how many times I am stopped by people who ask about my car. Not only does it look sweet, it drives like a dream - very smooth and fun! Best part is the roomy interior. I have two very tall teenagers who sit comfortably in the back as well as a very large trunk space. The 12 speaker Bose sound system sounds very good as well.
Best of its class by a longshot
I'm over 6' tall and my other vehicle is a Dodge truck that I love for its legroom. The Mazda 6 has really impressed me over the past two months with its excellent handling, features, and great styling. When I was car shopping I test drove the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, and Chevy Malibu for comparison and it beats them all in style and has better features for the price than the Accord and Malibu-hopefully the reliability pans out well too, but its too early to know for certain. So, if you're in the market for a sedan don't pass up the best car for under $25k-maybe the best under $30k- the 6.
Mazda's plan worked!
I have been a Honda owner for the last 20 years. When it came time to trade in my CR-V, I was ready for a sedan. The Accord was nice, drove perfectly fine, and looked very elegant, but wasn't as exciting as the Mazda. The Accord just didn't have the "Zoom, Zoom." I had forgotten how much fun driving can be. Mazda's plan to compete with Honda for market share worked on this Honda owner. I've only had it for 1 week, but I love it more each day I drive it.
the 6 is a great car
Well, I currently own a b-3000 truck and had owned a 3 in the early 90's and owned a 626 in the late 80's..lets just say, the 6 was top on my list. I read all the reviews here and didn't even bother wasting my time with accord, camry or legacy(which is what I really wanted).I ended up getting the convenience and moonroof package...great car to drive and have fun everytime..I am no speed demon but I think the car has enough power for around the town and highway..I may be biased here, but definitely do not have one regret buying the 6..and not too mention that the salesman wasn't trying to strongarm the deal...
The Winner is........... The 6
Where to start? I was in the market for either the Audi A4 or Lexus IS250 but landed in a Mazda 6. I drove past a Mazda dealership, the new 6 just stood out. I went in, test drove the car and here I am 3 months later loving my decision! They compare the Mazda 6 to the Accord and Camry (class- wise) however, it does not compare! It is far superior and should instead weight against cars like the A4 and IS250. Sounds crazy I know but I am a total 'gear head' and was dead set on one of the aforementioned cars. The 6 changed my mind! This car is nimble, responsive and fast! It has all of the high end comforts without the high end price tag. I could not be happier with my decision.......!
great car for the money
Nice car for the money. A REAL performer in town and on the road. I get 28mpg @ 65mph with cruise on. A fast car off the line/stoplights.(get the V-6) Roomy, comfortable interior, trunk has ample room. Handling is comparable to my Mazda Miata Convertible and is great in the twisties. I drove Camry, Accord and Altima and they are 4 cylinder plus more expensive. Mazda gives you more car for less money.
Really enjoying - except....
Drove all the "Camcordias" - new 6 as comfortable as they are -you don't see it "coming and going" - to me that's one of the best features. I got the 4 cyl - my first 4 banger - engine in smooth - but I miss the power and pickup of a 6 cyl. Gas mileage is about 25mpg around town - have 800 miles on the car (10 days driving). Automatic 5 speed is good on upshifts - downshifts are rough when coming around a turn and stepping on gas - it waits too long to shift and kind of bangs into lower gear. The "tiptronic" is lots of fun and works really well (though I find the "pushing forward" for downshift and pulling back for upshift to be backwards) Next time - 6 cyl with manual trans!
Drove it and Loved It
I was looking at this and the Altima. Liked the Altima but loved the Mazda. Steering is tight like a sports car, yet it sips fuel (30 MPG on a 200 mile trip averaging 75 MPH). Not bad for a lead foot! Wind noise was very minimal. Great fit and finish on the interior materials. Love the Bose speakers, bluetooth, and noise reduction feature. Push button start is fun too. Smooth to drive and the 4-cyl engine provides power when needed. I am 6'3" and have plenty of room. Dealer was 6'5" and could sit comfortably behind me on the test drive. On my way home from the dealer, I had two people ask me at a light what I was driving!
Value Plus
Had the car for 3 weeks now, replacing an 05 Altima. I do both highway and city driving, and this car has a ride quality you would find in a larger sedan but with power and maneuverability when you want it. Where the Altima was harsh and noisy, the Mazda exudes confidence, handling all road surfaces with ease. From a style standpoint, you can't beat the aggressive stance and overall lines - borrowing cues from Lexus and Infiniti isn't such a bad thing, and the design is hands down nicer than Camry or Accord, and the "happy face" grille of the Altima. Fuel economy is about the same as the Altima - it's reasonable given the power and performance of the V6.
Whats not to Love
Very Stylish best of all the sedans. Very quick acceleration, smooth transmission shifting. Handles curves like a real sports sedan should, yet has a very pleasant ride on the highway and over bumps, the 18 wheels are a plus. The car is roomy with options that you would normally find in cars twice the price. Overall: The best car I drove in its class by alot.
