You could only hear the engine ROAR!!!
I m a new driver and test drove the 6. Man cant wait till the turbo charger for the 2.3L 4 banger comes out. but this is truely the best car in its class. The 4 banger produces a lot of power and you could feel the the car pulling you back while you accelerate! BMW RIDE QUALITY and dang its the best!
Test drive.
Been wanting one of these, but am currently waiting to finish paying off my 99 Miata. I test drove both the Mazda6 s and the "i". The "i" was nice overall, but I think a 4cyl. is just not enough for that car. The "s" was really excellent. The dash on the "s" has the three comfort control knobs with lit rings that look so cool. The "s" also had a lot of power and I found it to be quite speedy. The AT tranny was disappointing, mainly because I've never liked Auto transmissions. The dealership informs me that the 5spd manuals won't be available until Feb where I live, and I told them that without a 5spd manual, I wouldn't even consider buying the car.
Keeps on pushing
I got my 2003 Mazda 6 i in September 2006. The only problems that I had were a dead battery (I used to leave the lights on), and my rack and pinion steering system which was replaced by the dealer covered by the factory warranty. Other than that the car is great. the low end torque could be better but the handling is awesome at all speeds. Love the ground clearance, I take it fishing and it has no problems with climbing steep embankments. Took it to Arkansas from Louisiana on a single tank of gas with four passengers and luggage, rode smoothly but is no Lincoln. The leather seats are very comfortable, radio is loud, and it looks great. Now has 76k still runs strong.
Mazda 6s - great value
I have owned my Mazda 6s for a couple of months and I love it! Value is first rate: leather seats, powerful V6 engine, and beautiful design at a very affordable price. The 220-hp lets me run with most cars on the road while it doesn't kill me at the pump (although mpg could be better). And when I wax my car, I still catch myself staring at it; love the exterior design. The only thing you have to do to this car is open up the mufflers, add an intake and you have a legitimate, stylish contender that stands out from the economy-car pack. I cannot attest to the reliability yet, however, but I think these cars have done well considering '03 was the first production year.
Sport Sedan of the future?
Although I have not purchased this vehicle I test drove the V6 and found that this car had a very quiet engine. Decent "pick-up" for a 218 horse engine though it is completing with other vehicle that have 240+ horses, so there's room for retuning to crank out some more ponies to keep up with the crowd. As for the "Zoom Zoom" factor, the handling is above par, but like many sedans today the power steering is somewhat overboosted which takes a little of the "sport" out of it. Can't wait to see the MPS(Mazda Performance Series) version which has a direct injected 2.3L/280hp AWD 6-speed, now that's some "Zoom Zoom"!
