So I'm a current Lexus owner, love the brand and have been waiting months for the RX-L to come out and replace our family vehicle with a 3 row SUV. I was so excited when the RXL came out and I went to the dealership with checkbook in hand, ready to buy. I literally cannot understand what Lexus was thinking with the 3rd row design. I expect midsize SUV 3rd rows to be child-sized, but this was completely non-functional and worse than any I've ever seen. With the 2nd row seats in the back position, the back of the 2nd row seat touches the bench of the 3rd row with precisely zero leg space. It touches! With the second row seats in the farthest forward position, I (or my teenage kids) STILL could not lock the second row seat in place (in it's farthest forward position) because the knees of the 3rd row passenger were in the way. It was physically impossible. The fact that the car is only 4 inches longer than the 2 row version should have been my first clue. If you need to get any child older than about 5 or a dog (which is exactly what they show in the new RXL commercial), the 3rd row is physically impossible to use. Not just cramped, not just tight, both of which I expected. Literally physically impossible to use and completely worthless. It was such a disappointment. We ended up buying the highest optioned Toyota Highlander (AWD hybrid limited platinum) instead. Not quite a Lexus, but darn, darn close and a bit cheaper too. I was so excited waiting for the RXL, but it's a complete whiff with regard to the 3rd row, which is what we were holding out for. I still love the two row version, the RX is still a great vehicle, but the RXL turned out to be completely pointless.

First time Lexus owner and I was on the fence about this since it’s expensive but very very nice with all the bells and whistles. I wanted a high end car with 3rd row seating but also wanted reasonable gas mileage in a vehicle because I care about the environment. That combination is hard to find. Since the hybrid model was $10k more it just didn’t make sense so I opted for the standard 350 RXL model seeing that the sticker mpg still seeemd reasonable at 20 city, 27 hwy. I do most of my driving on state hwy roads so thought I would be close to 27 mpg avg. After driving for 2 months avg is about 18 no matter what I do. Makes me wonder if there’s false advertising with the mpg. I love most everything about this car but very disappointed in mpg. I’m only getting 1 mpg over what my OLD 2007 Ford Edge crossover got. Plus 3rd row is EXTREMELY tight. Not hardly even useable. Pretty sure I’ll be trading it in when my lease is up.

We bought the RX350L. Do not buy it if you want the third row for children! We bought it thinking it would be great as we take care of our grandkids a lot. We got fooled too thinking that with the captains chairs it would give the back more room. With the captains chairs the car fits 4 people! It is so dangerous sitting anyone in the third row. My grandkids are 3,5,and 8. Right now I have a car seat in the third row and one on the captains chair and my grandkids don’t fit. If we move the middle seat forward the kid in that seat don’t have room. I have to move the front seat up as close to the dashboard as it can go. I can hardly drive! I have two car seats and a booster in my car and it’s not working out at all. I love the RX 350 but not the long. We own three so you know how we feel about the car itself. My RX350L has 4200 hundred miles on it and I have been looking to get rid of it already. We spent last few weekends looking at new cars. We went back to the LexuS place that we bought all three cars at to see if the GX would work better. LexuS wouldn’t give us a good enough deal to make it worth our while. You would think they would because we are such loyal customers! Please don’t make the costly mistake we did buying the RX35L!

I would prefer to call my F-Sport more of a blinged out Toyota than a Lexus. After more than 30 months with our 2017 RX, we have seen numerous glitches with many different electronic gadgetry. The outside rear view mirrors move to position while backing that is no good to anyone. They are either pointing into the air or on the ground next to the doors. The dial-a-drive mode dial, is very quirky. Although “sport ++” livens up the acceleration, it’s makes the engine surge in traffic when inching along. It’s very annoying. We found that the “Eco” mode is the best overall mode to drive in. The preset driver buttons only give you partial command over certain controls. You would think that a company like Lexus would have the key fob integrated to the driver. But if I use my wife’s keys and hit the #2 driver button on the door, the car loses its mind and can’t figure out who the controls should be set to.. if you open the rear hatch and want to put the back seat down for extra cargo, you have to walk around to the rear doors and put the seats down from that location...you can’t fold them from the hatch. Here is my BIGGEST COMPLAINT !! I own a 2017 Dodge Charger RT, it is basically stripped,down except for the V8 and $28k....it has (standard equipment) a remote start key fob. Our RX, which was north of $55K had a one year free subscription that included a remote start. After that, unless you pay for that subscription, you lose all those amenities. So,add that subscription to your. monthly payment... the infotainment system is not user friendly. It is very difficult to set up the way you want it, and then , as things often do, it gets set to another drivers liking, it’s all that difficult to put it back the way it was. You CAN NOT set the “recirculating” air switch to stay on. It will blink and revert back to fresh air ALL THE TIME, so when you are behind that city bus or stopped at a red light over a lit cigarette in the road, you have no choice but to suck in all those sweet aromas. Overall...WAY TOO MANY ISSUES, for a high end SUV, we will go back to BMW and never again revisit the Lexus Dealer. We love the looks of the car, it’s stunning in shape and presence, Lexus just needs to sit down and stop trying to impress us with electronic wizardry, and just concentrate on things that work and work easily while you are concentrating driving your car safely .

I loved my Lexus RX350 but wanted a 3rd row for passenger haul. Waited for years and finally when Lexus came out with one... it was a total disappointment. The 3rd row is non functional if you needed one. Can't even fit a child comfortably much less an adult. There is no leg room available as your knees are literally knocking on the 2nd row seats. Other than that, car is smooth to drive and would be a good vehicle if you dont need a 3rd row... I really dont see what segment this SUV is trying to attract but certainly not a practical car to own. We definitely will pass on this as there are other SUV with better design and more useful space than this. Sorry Lexus.

We just got the RX 350L and could not be happier with it. The ride and comfort and quality are outstanding. We drove the Audi, Infinity, Accura and BMW over the past week and this was easily our favorite of the group and it came in lower than most when comparing similar packages. I also like the look a bit more than the RX 350 with the less slope backend. The base sound system also was a real pleasant surprise ... with some slight adjustments to the balance and bass it was really surprisingly great and I love good sound. The ride is very smooth and quiet with very comfortable seats and easy to use controls including the great safety technology package. To be fair, as another reviewer wrote, the 3rd row is tight, but we did not feel anywhere near as bad as the reviewer described. My wife 5'4" tried it out on our ride and said it was comfortable with the mid row seats still in a reasonable position. This would work for our needs of 2 hour or less drives with an extra ability to fit 1 or 2 more kids or shorter adults avoiding the need for a second vehicle on the trips. There is still nice storage behind the 3rd row too. For us, this was a great choice and we're really happy with nearly every aspect of the car and would recommend it to friends or family.

Update after one year: I still LOVE driving this car. I’ve curbed” the right side wheels a couple of times and not sure why I’ve done this, my husband said maybe due to the extra length? I don’t know. I have had zero problems with my car. I do believe my next Lexus will be the larger GX since the granddaughters will be that much bigger. Other than wanting a third row of seats that a real person could sit in, I’d never sell this one. It’s a dream to drive. (Original Post) This is my 5th Lexus, 3rd RX, first RXL. We got the extended model and looked forward to being able to put our 5 year old twin granddaughters in the 3rd row when going for a short ride with the 7 of us for dinner. Nothing but complaints from the little ones in that 3rd seat. It’s fairly useless. Having said that, we are impressed with the extended cargo room and will be happy with having extra room that this model allows. So, that’s says it all regarding the third row. The rest of this vehicle is A number one tops in every other way. The handling is supurb. Comfortable on a long (12 hour) drive and comfortable and easy for short trips around town. The automatic braking has startled me 2 times now in parking lots when navigating into a space and the car detected a person or car and abruptedly stopped. I’ll take that on occasion as a trade off from accidentally bumping something and causing damage, but it will startle you. The visibility in this model seems better than my 2014 RX. I like the lane departure (vibrating) steering wheel, the rear cross traffic warning, the rear view camera and ADORE having the auto diming headlights! I did not know what a pain it was to dim lights until I did not have to do it any more. I’m spoiled. I compared the RLX to the GX. The GX was bigger and I loved the interior room better, but it felt more like driving a truck. The LX was the largest in the line and the cream of the crop, but alas, can not see spending nearly 100K fully loaded and not getting decent mileage at that. So, loving this RXL for now. Should I need that third row, I’ll either trade for a pre owned LX or step up to the GX in the future.

I've owned Toyotas for ten years now, but decided to trade my 2016 HIghlander for this Lexus 350L with the Premium Package. First off, let's get the touchy subject of the info/navigation display out of the way. Working your way through this thing is far from intuitive, and there is no touch screen -- you use a mouse-type device mounted on the console, right where your hand normally rests. But I have to say that, after taking a few days to get used to it, I actually prefer it. It's much easier, and safer, than reaching to fumble with a touchscreen while driving. In fact, you really don't have to take your eyes off the road. Ride is superb, I've had absolutely no problems with anything on the vehicle, and performance is more than adequate. The Sport Mode give you a little more response with a quicker transmission kick down when accelerating, probably at the cost of 1 MPG or so. I don't like the touch on-off with the interior light, which is right next to the sunglass holder on the overhead console. While getting or putting away my glasses I almost always inadvertently touch the light and it comes on -- don't even notice it in the daytime. I much prefer the conventional click on-off on the Toyota. Also, the front end has a "glass jaw" with no bumper protection. The plastic grill just sticks out there in front of everything. I managed to tap a pole in a parking lot and gave the grill a minor crack. I shudder to think what that will cost. And the analog clock is difficult to read in low light -- needs more contrast between the hands and face. But overall, the 350L is an excellent, well-engineered, well-built vehicle. After 3,500 miles I'm getting 23.5 MPG combined city/hwy. I would definitely buy again. UPDATE AFTER 28K MILES: I've gotten used to the lack of a touch screen and mouse-type control on the console. I haven't gotten used to the balky acceleration when the transmission is in the "normal" mode, but it does fine in the "sport" mode. You just can't lock it in, as every time you restart the car it resets to the "normal" mode. Not a single warranty issue. Vehicle looks awesome, and rides great. UPDATE TWO YEARS LATER at 35k miles: Vehicle hasn't had a single problem, and I now prefer the mouse control over the touch screen on my wife's Avalon.. As for my fears about front end protection, I managed to rear-end a BMW X3 at about 7 MPH. Impact occurred well above the BMW's "bumper" and into the tailgate, due to the Lexus' goofy front end design. But surprisingly there was more damage to the BMW than to my Lexus. Front end protection on the Lexus, though, is still designed more for looks than for practicality.

Do not buy if you're looking for a spacious 3rd row seat. there's barely any leg room, not even for a young toddler. even if you wanted to make space for the thrid row, the 2nd wouldn't have enough room... its just horrible how they did it..everything else is great!

The Lexus sales guy called it top luxury vehicle better than my Acura MDX I was trading in but the fact is the Acura was better. I should have known that Lexus cut corners with the cramp third row and lack of heated back seats along with the dated enform navigation.. not sure why Kia has appple play and Lexus doesn’t??? Gas mileage is bad 14 city 22 highway .. handling is ok. Ride is smooth and I kept me safe in a crash so it’s not all bad but don’t pay a premium for this one
