2020 Sorento- Better than the newer ones

2020 Kia Sorento EX 4dr SUV (3.3L 6cyl 8A)

I only owned this car for 1 year, but it was great during the time I had it. I had the EX model with all the bells and whistles. The only feature it lacked was AWD. It was a pretty dark blue, had the stone-colored leather seats, 3rd row, and panoramic sunroof. It was great in so many ways. I only had one complaint, and that was the transmission. In the efforts of making more fuel efficiency, you've probably noticed most manufacturers, if not switching to the dreadful CVT, are at least adding more gears to their auto transmissions. This Sorento had an 8 speed auto transmission. This is the only thing that drove me nuts. It LOVED to shift as early as possible (again, in the name of "fuel efficiency"), and it HATED to downshift when I needed it to. I would try to coax it reasonably with the accelerator, and it would pretty much ignore me and refuse to downshift. Finally, once I got fed up, I would slam it to the floor, at which point it would roar and not only downshift but would drop at least 3 gears, which was more than I was wanting. Other than this issue with the transmission, it was a perfect car. Very comfortable, fairly fuel efficient, and looked good. The panoramic sunroof was great, the seats were pretty comfortable, and it was roomy enough, especially with the 3rd row folded flat. Like other cars with 3 rows, the 3rd row wasn't perfect for adults on long trips, but it wasn't as bad as some people say if you position the front 2 rows wisely. It can be done where everyone is comfortable. Folks just like to complain. It really was a great car. I just hated that 8-speed transmission. That being said, that engine was a beast. Most people look and think, it's a family hauler, not much fun, but if you laid into that engine, you could really blow people away with the 290hp. It would fly if you needed it to and was great for passing on the interstate or a 2-lane highway. It's a shame they dropped the V6 in the 2021 and newer models. They say they have plenty of power with the turbo 4-cylinders, but I've already heard a lot of stories of problems with the dual-clutch transmission. I've heard Kia is obviously taking care of the issues under warranty, but it still sounds like a pain having to have a fairly new vehicle in the shop so soon. Overall, I give the 2020 version a high rating, if you can get used to the shifting issues with the 8-speed auto trans.

This car is great! It meets just about every expectation I expected. Kia is truly moving up in my eyes. The ride is comfy, It handles well, it surprisingly had some giddy up for highway and freeway passing. Looks nice, fits up to 7 passengers but the back seat is really for little guys. You could sit an adult back there but they might not be to comfy for a distance ride. You do lose a lot of trunk space if utilizing the 7 seats. The only big complaint I would have is the basic seat adjustments for the driver seat. If you don't have electric seats, the hydraulic that lifts the seat always tends to slowly release the seat back down in time, so the seat has to be pumped back up every now and then. I had the same issue with my older Kia Spectra. I wish they'd find a better system for that. The cooling to the back seats are a little insufficient. Other than that, our family loves this car. It's been really good to us. I'd definately recommend this vehicle to others and would continue buying with Kia. Our next buy would be their Telluride. You can't beat their bumper to bumper warranty. Great vehicle with good power. Very reliable and high safety ratings!!

Passenger seat height

The passenger seat is so low I can barely see over the dash, And the sun visor does no good when you’re sitting so low. I’m only 122 lbs. -5’1”. Should have an adjustment to raise it.
