Prestige line

6'6" Mike, 12/04/2022
2023 Kia Sorento Hybrid SX Prestige 4dr SUV AWD (1.6L 4cyl Turbo gas/electric hybrid 6A)

The safety features, lane assist, side cameras, top down 360 view, ventilated front seats, and overall smooth ride make this feel like a luxury vehicle in a more affordable price range. I'm 6'6" 290 pounds and have no problems fitting in this vehicle comfortably. Second and Third row seating flip down to unveil an incredibly massive cargo area capable of holding two or three full Costco cartloads of items. Cons: No sunglass holder. Vents don't seem sturdy enough for clip on accessories. Piano black interior finish areas retain fingerprints and scratches very easily.

The Kia Sorento hybrid is full of so many features that we continue to be amazed. What amazed us most was the incredible mileage for the first 500 miles in Eco mode----an astounding 39.3 mpg, which was much more than we expected.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SUV

Chadster, 12/12/2023

My 2024 KIA Hybrid Sorento is very, very quiet inside, the hybrid engine and tranny work so smooth together. I do not have any hesitation with my KIA when accelerating and am thankful for that. I am 6'0 tall and the drivers seat fits really good . My son said the captains chair and its ability to recline makes for a very comfortable ride. I was not ready for a totally electric car so this hybrid filled the gap for better gas mileage. I am averaging 32 mpg. Excellent family car ... KIA's reliability made my decision to buy this SX Prestige hybrid easy peezy!

Great Vehicle, Technology Unstable

We have now put 8,000 miles on our 2023 Sorento Hybrid. Performance, economy, comfort, handling and space all excellent. Sadly the technology seems to be the weak part. We are now waiting to see our nearest dealer for repair. We have lost: voice recognition, all radios including AM,FM,Sirius, all map display, all Nav. Fortunately Android Auto does work to give us navigation ability and have it displayed on main screen. Of course you wait a month for a service opening. We love the vehicle and hate the fact that the majority of the technology has totally failed. This is a Prestige SX model hybrid. It is currently only 4 months. We took it on an amazing trip to Canada and loved it. Returning home when the navigation and all radios failed We were glad that it had not failed on the trip. We had previously owned a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and that technology had been so perfect We expected the Kia to be reliable.

I Hate This Car

On my first road trip I got a check engine warning which the out of town dealer service center couldn't diagnose but thought it was okay to drive back home and later there was some sort of flushing the system that corporate KIA told the dealer to do. About 8 months later on a road trip I lose power and have to pull over on a busy freeway 20 miles from the nearest town but near an exit. KIA roadside assist was unable to locate me and kept insisting my location was hundreds of miles away and couldn't look up the address of the actual nearest dealer. The dealer is now telling me that a rock flew through the grill and damaged the radiator for the hybrid motor and admitted that there is a serious design flaw because if rocks don't hit the radiator, they hit the AC condenser. The tow truck operator told me he tows more Hyundais and Kias than any other make. The interior is nice feeling, but there is about a two minute lag on the infotainment touchscreen after about 30 minutes of driving.

Unsolveable Steering Column Issue - Grinding Noise

Mac56 , 07/17/2024

100s of Sorento owners have mentioned this issue, The steering column will generate a grinding / chirping sound that is incredibly annoying. KIA Service department has documented this issue for me. KIA Customer Service will not recognize the problem, Engineering is not working on it and there is no TSB (Tech Service Bulletin ) planned. I am disgusted with KIA. I am selling this car at a loss and cannot recommend KIA products or service. Back to the bad of days of KIA.

Close to great, few major flaws

Polaris , 08/07/2024
2023 Kia Sorento Hybrid EX 4dr SUV AWD (1.6L 4cyl Turbo gas/electric hybrid 6A)
7 of 7 people found this review helpful

Transitioned to this from a 16' Nissan Rogue. When vehicle shopping I wanted: -AWD -Hybrid -able to tow 2k -third row -drive safety tech (lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, emergency braking) That wish list eliminated almost all three row SUVs on the market as many three row SUVs are not hybrid models or are markedly more expensive than a Sorento EX hybrid. I drive 600 miles a week mostly interstate. Complaints, Kia, large Kia dealer -had obnoxious passenger wind noise at highway speeds... Dealer I bought it from was useless, small local dealer changed entire passenger door seal -steering wheel squeaking/squealing, dealer changed gasket and then replaced entire steering column-issue resolved -different passenger side wind noise noted when AC external air flow option on ... Incredibly annoying. Was in shop 5-6 times for this, claim started with Kia and Kia engineers also could not figure it out. Filed lemon law claim and was denied as the car was still "drivable" All of this happened the first 20,000 miles of owning. Had this car in the shop more than my last three vehicles combined. All was covered under warranty but incredible inconvenient to be without the car for probably 20 days total in first few months of owning. Passenger AC noise occurs ~5% of the time at highway speed and stops if using air recirc option. THE GOOD: This thing is like a Swiss army knife -34 mpg average on interstate (currently 31k miles), better than that in town -towing is impressive. I have towed a snowmobile, separately a 1,000 pound Polaris ranger on a two place aluminum trailer without issues -third row is great for hauling more folks around for short trips -drive assist tech GREATLY reduces drive fatigue especially if you drive a lot . Has also prevented an accident or two -tech overall and standard options are superior to really any other vehicle at this price point CONS: -The steering column, the AC noise, Kia corporate being terrible to work with -third row not comfy for long trips -third row and back of car don't have air vents that you would get in a telluride, traverse, palisade If I could go back I would have test driven mine on the interstate for 15 minutes and realized I needed to pick another Sorento hybrid that wasn't this one. Recently ive been 10,000 miles with zero issues, no shop visits aside from oil change. Great gas mileage, AWD is great, towing capacity, driving tech and seating for 8. I was between this and a Telluride S, which were of similar cost. The telluride S does not have the level of interior luxury as the Sorento EX and the mpg is notably worse. Hopefully Kia can work some of the kinks out, but for most folks who won't regularly haul more than 4 people or tow heavy loads (over 1,500 pounds) this is probably a better option for most than a telluride, palisade. Separately, I think every single family member/friend who has ridden in the Sorento has commented on how nice it looks, comfy, quiet.

I love all the amenities the car offers. My favorite features are the heated seats and auto start from my phone. Also I drive the turnpike every day to work, so the ease of the cruise control is amazing. It’s so comfortable, for passengers included. I have zero complaints. I did notice it’s a tiny bit glitchy when it was sub zero the other week… but once the car warmed up it was fine.

Child safety lock design flaw is serious problem

Kate, 02/14/2024
2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid EX 4dr SUV (1.6L 4cyl Turbo gas/electric hybrid 6A)
11 of 14 people found this review helpful

Beware: The newer Kia Sorentos have an electronic child safety lock button instead of child safety locks that can be manually engaged and disengaged on each rear door. The electronic child safety lock is a design flaw that can give rise to serious safety issues. First, the child safety lock button becomes inoperable when the engine is turned off. Second, the electronic button locks both rear doors and both rear windows at the same time. So if you have a child in one rear seat and an adult in the other rear seat, you can only lock them both in or not have the child safety lock on either rear door. If you disengage the electronic child safety lock button to let the adult out, know that the child can also open his door. There is no way to activate a child safety lock on only one rear door. Each rear door has a visible manual switch labeled as a switch for activating the child safety lock, but the manual switch does not actually work; there is no way to activate the safety lock for just one rear door. If you need an effective child safety lock, you should understand the problematic limitations with Kia’s electronic child safety lock button before you purchase.

The overall rating is good here. Lots of safety options on the EX trim. Lane control is so great, the seems to drive itself. The only negative is the road noise and ride on certain poor roads. Plus seating in the back seat the noise and ride is higher. Wonder if the reason is the hybrid batteries directly under the seat area. After 2,000 miles of mostly highway driving, the MPG was only 33. We have the FWD vso expect better.

My 2nd Sorento, I traded in the first with 103,000 miles of flawless performance. Just drove cross country in my new Sorento with no problems, but the excess technology, beeps, and bells will drive you crazy. The group that writes the manuals needs a basic course in writing and layout. I thought for a while they were getting advice from Bud Light. Very small print while the page is half-empty. What is needed are some video resources rather than 5 manuals. Fuel economy is about 35-37 in mixed city-highway driving. Cross-country interstate driving MPG was 32 - 33 but the car was loaded and heavy. The dealership was typical of old-school salesmanship, best friends in the showroom, then sign the papers and they are gone. Explanation of operation details was insufficient given the excessive level of technology. The ride is comfortable, but it seems my 2016 was heavier, better built, a bit quieter and certainly easier to drive. I actually had words on most of the buttons. Time will tell. Have had no problems with charging, but the hybrid takes a bit of getting used to the electric engine only at startup and no shift leaver. Good pick-up from a dead start. The 100K mile warranty is a good selling point. But next time I'm planning to look around a bit more.

The performance is amazing! I was expecting a slower car that saves on gas, but I was pleasantly surprised that the response from the gas pedal is amazing. It definitely has some good acceleration. The comfort is great as well it’s so hard to beat these accessories at this price point. The interior is beyond comfortable and is considerably better compared to other cars like Toyota and Honda. Where you would need to get a higher trim with a considerably higher mileage rice tag.

We just completed a 7500mile drive across the country. This Kia was comfortable, pretty quiet, and drove like a dream. Great gas mileage. This is a fun car to drive for a three-seater. I like the exterior styling, all the electronics. As soon as figure them all out.

Traded in a beautiful Alfa Romeo Stelvio Lusso. That hurt. Just can't afford the maintenance on the Alfa. Plus it was too small. The Sorento solved both. Much roomier, with almost all the features she wanted. No heated steering wheel in the EX, and we opted to not have the moonroof. So far so good, love how it drives, love the gas mileage, the quietness and smoothness of the ride. Just enough punch to get you going and to pass, and drives as if it were smaller. Regular unleaded, and a great warranty. It's a head turner in our little town, hopefully it'll last 10 years or more.

We leased our black 2023 Sorento EX AWD Hybrid (only color choice on the lot) on October 14th, 2023, despite its standard 3rd-row seat which we didn’t want because it takes up storage room and creates a higher load floor for our dogs to jump up on. I soon noticed that from-time-to-time when I turned the car, a mouse-like squeak emanated from the steering wheel. I recorded the squeak on my phone and took it to Paramount Kia in Asheville where we leased it to have it fixed. They wouldn’t accept my recording but made an appointment so their head tech could duplicate the noise, which thankfully he was able to duplicate with me in the front passenger seat. Unfortunately, Kia still wouldn’t accept his verification and asked that their Regional Tech come to Paramount Kia and verify, which he was able to do shortly thereafter; he then ordered a replacement steering column which was installed within a week. That new steering column fixed the noise problem, and I finally had possession of a defect-free 2023 Sorento on January 12, 2024, a 3-month long and very frustrating process. Since then the vehicle has performed flawlessly (I’m typing this review on July 24th, 2024) and we like it very much because it’s mostly quiet, comfortable, handles well and gets great gas mileage in combined city-highway driving—-37ish! I wrote “mostly quiet” because when driving up a steep hill or mountain, the power train is as noisy as my grandmother’s old sewing machine because Kia skimped on the sound insulation. I would add that the tech features and controls are not always intuitive, and took some time to figure out and get used to. Bottom line: It’s been a mostly satisfying, if not exciting, vehicle to drive, with the great mileage being the biggest delight! FYI: We liked it enough to lease a 2023 base model Sportage Hybrid on October 20th, 2023 (last hybrid on the lot—-in black only of course) and because it has the same drivetrain in s slightly smaller vehicle, it’s even more responsive and about as economical, plus with no 3rd row seat, a lower load floor for our dogs and only slightly smaller cabin/storage space; perhaps in 2026 we’ll lease two top of the line 2026 Sportage Plug-in Hybrids in blue and green?

Mileage disappointment

I'll start by saying I like almost all of the features of the Hybrid Prestige I bought. My biggest issue is the gas mileage. I'm just not getting what I thought I was buying. One too many times I've driven less than a mile away in my neighborhood and lost 2-3 miles in range. Keep in mind I'm going less than 40 mph. The biggest beef I have with the 2023 Sorento is the gas tank. The specs say it's a 17.7 gallon tank. I've taken the range down to as low as I can go. As low as 5 miles of range. My tank has never gotten over 17 gallons for a full fill up. It tops out at around 16.5. That's a full gallon short and at least 30-35 miles off the mileage range. Other nitpicks that come to mind. The side mirrors used to tilt down automatically whenever I reversed. It might me a setting issue, but they no longer do that and I leased the car in late October. Love the interior and space for my baby in the back seat. Just wish Kia would look into the actual size of their fuel tank. My comments still stand on the fuel tank. I'll revise what I said about the fuel efficiency. You have to coast when you can and try to drive the vehicle with the EV light on as much as you can. I’ve made trips and gotten 44+ mpg per trip. The key is not being too lead footed.

We have had for one year today. High 40s MPG, captain chair second row, cool looking vehicle, and lots of usable space. The con is road noise when seated in the captains chairs. Assume the noise is related to the hybrid batteries below that area.

What is there not to like it has every option that we ever wanted? It is steering wheel heated seats, cold seats virtually every option that offered on the Kia. Telluride is standard equipment on the Sorrento SX prestige. The only thing that I despise is the seatbelt portion that sticks up from the seat is way too short. If you have a jacket on, you’re not gonna find it it needs to be longer of that, we have nothing but praise for the car I we have to add that we lost our radio a.m. and FM around four months ago and the dealer wants $500 to update the navigation system. I have tried to use or do it yourself. Download with no success waiting for a factory option to buy the preloaded software on a ram stick, but the release date keeps changing to April now in mid September !! We were told by the dealer when we bought the car that the Apple CarPlay was wireless we have not been able to connect if that is true and we get conflicting reports whether we have to dealer or Kia. If you go online, they talk readily about it. I know some models have it. I’m not sure the Sorrento did have it in 23.

We bought our 2024 Kia Sorento in May of 2024. We bought it new from King Kia in MD. We haven't put on 1,000 since we bought it, in fact, it was 882 miles when the stuff hit the fan. A code came on, P198500, and later another code P177600. Apparently, when the temps dropped below 20 degrees, the car wouldn't shift. We finally got it to move, and drove it straight to the dealership. That was in January 10, 2025. With the exception of one week, it has been sitting at the dealership (which I will never buy from them again, since they didn't fix it the first time, they simply reset the code, hence, a week later the car was back.) I informed Kia of the problem, they created a ticket, and then "escalated" the issue, and a month (yes, over 30 days later) escalated the issue again. The brand new Sorento is still gathering dust at the dealership. Under the Lemon law, they are supposed to replace it or refund the purchase price, but they are just giving me the usual corporate jargon; we are following the warranty claim. Well, we are coming up on 60 days of the Kia sitting at the dealership, and no help. For the record, the dealership refuses to provide a loaner or a rental. Yes, I opened a Lemon Law claim with the state's AG.

Disappointment with 2025 KIA Sorento Hybrid

The car broke down with 350 miles on it and had to be towed, was completely undrivable. After 2 days and 4-6 hours of research, a pin was found not seated correctly. Three months later the Engine Management System failed and the car was in for Service for 38 days while the service department searched for the problem. The engine wiring harness was replaced with no assurance the problem was fixed. It was a fingers crossed situation they found the culprit. Kia refuses to replace the car even though it was in for service 40 days the first 5 months I owned it. They will not even extend the warranty. In fact they will give no compensation at all. Very disappointed in Kia's backing of their product, even though I like the car very much.

The third row seats are tight. Sitting in those seats for a long trip might be tough.

Test drove but needs an update to dash panel

Drove nicely but needs the new dash panel as the Telluride and Sportage. Like - One panorama panel rather than one that looks like a tablet stuck in the middle.

Just had to buy a $7k battery because a lot of water got into the hv battery somehow without anything inside the car getting wet, so not covered under warranty. The car has 962 miles and the dealer has had it longer then I have. I'll never buy a Kia used or new after this.
