Used 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (4.7L 8cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
Short Life, Big Probem
I purchased on 3/24/05. On 3/29/05 after 147 miles, heard a tremendous "bang" underneath car. Entire car shook. Much clanking and banging under car before I got it to road shoulder. Towed to dealer. Front transfer case separated from chassis. Dealer does not know why. Chrysler now involved. Car has been in dealer shop since 3/29. Car rides well, 4.7 liter big enough to move it, comfortable, gas mileage unknown at this time. My 2002 Grand Cherokee with same engine delivered 15-16 city and 20 or slightly better on the open road.
Lemon, no warranty coverage
Have owned 2 previous Jeeps with no problems. Purchased top of the line hemi limited 4X4 quadradrive; have become very disappointed. Quadradrive system has design problem. Bad vibration between 70 and 80 MPH. Had tires balanced, Drive shaft replaced. still have same problem. Dealer and company refuse to repair. (Can't test above the area speed limit so we won't cover or repair) performance vehicles? They do not back their cars. Chrysler customer care people are rude. Do not buy one! Mileage on Hemi is bad 10.6 in city, 15 on highway at best even after break in. Read Edmunds forums before purchasing any year Grand Cherokee. Jeeps are not Jeeps any more. Bring back my old Cherokee.

Buyer's Remorse
Jeep owner for 30 years. Last Jeep was a '02 Grand Cherokee. Bought the '05 Hemi but failed to review the specs. '05 is longer and wider but there is less interior room due to the bulky plastic used through-out. Dash takes too much space; at 6'1" no leg room in the back nor in the front when driving with an adult in the back. On the passenger side, the bulky glove box placement is awful and knees are pressed against it when my 5- yr old sits in back. Lacks head room, headrests angled too forward which forces you to recline the seat further back. No way 4 adults fit in this Grand Cherokee. The '02 had more comfort space. After 13,000 miles, the transmission has a shudder, front differential solenoid failed, waiting for parts.
2005 Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi
Definitely look at the Hemi as an option if you like power. Available options are confusing, so research them closely. NAV systenm needs to be touch screen instead of the toggle switch. Rides well. Not much room to store things, cup holders small. Two weeks after purchase sunroof was leaking. Dealership experience was poor. Overall, the car is nice, but if you expect an Expedition equipped SUV you will be disappointed.
5.7L Grand Cherokee exhaust problem.
Unacceptable exhaust resonation/vibration from Hemi engine. Chrysler has no fix. Random electrical problems & no fix.
