New Jeep Owner's Assessment

Contrary to what I've read at Edmunds and other reviewers on the net, my Jeep Overland rocks! The performance in the Overland is powerful. I've test driven the new 4 Runner, Land Rover New Discovery, Durango, and Pathfinder before I made my decision. I ultimately liked the cabin space and feel of the Land Rover better, but that truck could not match the Jeep's superior engine or rebates at the dealer. My perspective is from one who has never owned an SUV before and the Jeep represents an upgrade to my 1993 Saturn SL2 (still running well BTW) and 1999 Volkswagen Passat.

Great Jeep!

Purchased Jeep new on Oct 2002. Jeep has never been back to the shop except for the seat warmer recall. Tires and brakes are original with 63,000 miles and have plenty of wear left. Lots of pep and very comfortable. This is my second Jeep and a great vehicle.

All A++++++ marks for this car. I am so pleased, and have received an endless flood of compliments. It has all the features, amenities, and comfort of a luxury "SUV", for $10K less, and the REAL capability to go hardcore off- road. On a side note, I really wanted to mention that if you live in Southern California, avoid Glendale Star Chrylser Jeep. 90% of their staff is the epitome of the sleazy, heartless car salseman. The one guy who wasn't had only worked their for a week! Hate hate hate the dealership, love love love the car.

Love the Overland

This 2003 Overland edition is great looking. The interior is also very attractive, but I find the driver's seat too soft and too small. The vehicle does not handle that well on windy country roads. There is a significant amount of body roll and the seat does not seem to hold my average sized body very securely. I love the chrome 17' wheels. The leather/suede mix is nice in the interior. The 4.7 HO is very powerful and quick from a start and when merging. The sound system is good but not excellent. My wife is the primary driver of this vehicle and she loves it. The vehicle has performed well on all road surfaces and in all conditions. The creature features of the overland are great.

Happy with the GC Overland

This is my 4th Jeep product (2 Wranglers and a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited V8). The Overland is very powerful and the 4WD is great in rain and snow. I love the chrome wheels. The stereo in the '98 Limited was better. Gas mileage is not that bad -- about 15.5 mpg with mixed highway and local travel. Closer to 19 mpg during extended highway driving. My only complaint is the front seats. The leather suede mix is nice, but the seats are not firm enough and too small. The vehicle has some body roll when cornering and the soft seats contribute to a feeling of poor handling.
