I love it. I upgraded from an '09 Ford Focus so honestly this is a huge upgrade. I got the Limited package with the tech package. Its amazing. It rides well, the entertainment package is awesome, the infinity speakers are great, I love the ventilated seat and the heated seats. The heated steering wheel is a cool feature. The sport mode tightens the steering up and it handles like a dream and it nicely adds a little get up and go. The ECO mode adds gas mileage while going down the highway. The normal driving mode is a nice drive too. I love this car and it was between this and the kia optima with the tech package. I loved both cars and they are both on the same body but I got a better deal on the Sonata for a lease. They honestly handle the same and amenities are the same, however I did like the Harmon and Kardon speakers a little better than the infiinities. But, Im confident in the Sonata and the features are great. I would definitely lease another one after this lease is up. If you're on the fence between this and anything else, pull the trigger you wont regret it. Especially if you are coming from a car like the ford focus or some other compact car. The space is literally uncomparable. I could fit 2 Ford "Foci" in this car. (Obvious hyperbole, kinda)

I love it!!!! I was trying to get out of my '14 Sentra SV that I felt I was over paying for. Only 1.5k miles on the car and I love the change to a larger sedan, I get almost the same gas mileage as I had with my Sentra by driving on the freeways a bit more that surface streets. It has the power for me to navigate traffic with ease. I also ended up getting the sport edition with quite a few of the additional packages, and I love everything I got, and its definitely worth the ~$100 difference in my payments. My only wish is that the BlueLink last longer, or was less expensive to renew. It's definitely worth looking into, it's about 10 times the car other manufacturers were trying to sell me. Update (11/21/19): another 30k miles on the car and it's still fantastic! Only problems are with infotainment no longer displaying the time, manufacturer states the warranty only covers 3yr/36k miles for that, and left multi-switch (the one that controls turn indicator) had to be replaced. Outside of that it's still wonderful!

Great overall value. Comfort level is good with seats, multi position electric drivers seat is roomy and comfortable, however, my knee seems to be pinned against the shift console so I have to move the seat back further than I'm comfortable with. Same with my previous sonata(2011).. Technology features with android auto are great. Didn't come with garage opener remote. that option was 10 times the cost of ordering another remote and clipping it to the visor...So far with econo function engaged I'm averaging 35 mpg.

Lost Class Action Lawsuit, Won't Honor Warranty

S Morrisroe, 01/13/2023

I have a Hyundai Sonata 2016. Due to several instances of having to fill my oil in between changes, and to begin the process of using the Powertrain Lifetime Warranty awarded to all owners of the vehicle due to the class action lawsuit, I began an oil consumption test at the Piazza Hyundai on 05/16/22 and finished 08/25/22. 2 quarts every 1000 miles (then). They confirmed it was an issue. I was told to wait for confirmation, and that if confirmed an engine cleaning would be scheduled. If that didn't work, they'd replace the engine. They said it'd take a while. On 10/20/22, while still waiting for the decision, I smelled burning while driving and took my car to my mechanic. He called into Piazza and then corporate to tell them I needed a new engine. My mechanic let me know that mine now risked stalling on the highway or fire. It seems my consumption test paperwork was lost, deliberately or otherwise, by Piazza Hyundai or by Hyundai corporate, after the oil consumption evidencing finished 08/25. My case clearly shows it was opened, denied, closed entirely on 10/20. I can see this on the denial document that I had to pick up physically from them, as they claimed that was the only way I could get it. It claimed that because my engine's issue was not the rod bearings, despite the fact they could not have looked then because my car was not with them, it didn't meet the requirements of the class action extended warranty. A later call on 11/16 that I had to fight to receive from them confirmed that the denial had no pictures of my engine attached (because my car was not in Piazza Hyundai for them to look at) or evidence for the denial, which he said was unusual. I was there during all previous oil consumption checks, and they did not look in my engine. My call on 11/16 with Hyundai corporate also confirmed they never reopen cases once denied. I'm now burning a quart every 2 weeks. Piazza Hyundai said its hands were tied by corporate's denial. After a dozen calls, several documented lies and claims there was nothing I could do about this despite it's appearance, corporate said I could either contact the Better Business Bureau or talk to their legal department if my engine caught fire to sue. I called a manager at Piazza on 12/9 to confirm Hyundai corporate's decision on this. I hope being transparent about it will help other people make better informed decisions on what type of car they buy than I did. I won’t be buying from Hyundai again and I will advise my family and friends to find a company not blatantly lying to avoid personal responsibility and honoring a class action lawsuit-created warranty because they are experts people trust who can get away with it, and because they know most people won't have the energy to fight their decision.

May 2021 update. I've had the 2016 Sonata Sport for about 5 years now. So far, I have had no real issues with the car. It has only about 64000 miles, because it is primarily used for long distance driving, versus the local around town stuff. The only issue I ever had was with the radio and Hyundai promptly changed that out for me, around the first 5,000 miles. I change the oil about every 4,000 miles, and have changed the transmission fluid already, at 53,000 miles. The tires, a Kumho brand, are not my favorites, but I have to admit at 64K miles, they still have good tread on them. But I will say, that they still have a lot of wear life on them, at this mileage point. Driving? It is a smooth, but definitely boring care, especially, after comparing it to my 2015 Mazda6, that I bought used. The Mazda6 is the daily driver. The mileage runs at least 34 mpg on the highway for long distance. Seldom does it go below 31 mpg when driving in the city. I'd like to trade it for a Camry with all of the safety features, but can't justify that, since the car is working quite fine. So far after five years, I really cannot find any major faults with this vehicle. In fact, I took it on a long run, 1,000 miles to New Orleans this past weekend and it ran perfectly fine. The gas mileage was a little lower than normal, but I was driving it a little faster than normal. Hopefully it will be a long term car, matching my old Camry and Accord, which achieved 300,000 miles.

My first new car was a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, I loved the car great gas mileage and comfortable. Around 20000 miles it started to lose about quart of oil a month and I only drive 600 miles a month. This turned me off to hyaudai. I traded it for a toyota rav 4 . Something to do with GDI engines I'm told. I won't buy another HYUNDAI

We have driven this car for seven years now, and still have been very pleased with this vehicle. It is smooth riding, and the safety features are outstanding. The electronics are amazing, and the economy is great, getting up to 35 mpg on the highway. The convenience features are much appreciated, especially the heated steering wheel in the winter, and the A/C cooled front seats in the summer. We have had no major repairs, just a couple of minor recall notices that the dealer serviced at no cost to us. Recently it did cost us $300 to replace the oil pressure sending unit. But we still plan to keep this car for several more years. We now have 76,000 miles on it, but the guarantee is good for 100,000 miles.

Update-March 2020- The 2016 Sonata that I purchased is holding up real well. Even though I have 54,000 miles on it. I have not had to replace any tires (about 50% wear on them and nothing has gone wrong. It is simple, well maintained, well running car. I wish it was more exciting to drive. To solve that issue, I purchased a 2015 Mazda 6 used, with a manual transmission. It is my daily driver and I use the Sonata for the long road trips. The only maintenance I have done is change the transmission fluid, had the oil changed a few times, replaced the air and cabin filters. Other than that, it is all good! Purchased this car four years ago to replace a new 2016 Civic, that I found to be too small, with seats that didn't support well and uncomfortable on very long drives. If you have ever owned a Camry, this is the Korean version of one. The less exciting things are. 1) The 2.4L engine is rather tepid, if you think you are going to make burn-out marks on the street, you will be wrong. It kind of eases into highway traffic and you have to stomp on it (it will scream at you when you do), to get some good merging on a very busy and loaded highway. However, for regular surface streets, it accelerates well enough. Handling also is kind of on the sloppy side, so if you whip it around a corner at high speed, don't be surprised if it tries to whip you back. In other words, it gets a little bit floaty and may not go exactly where you point it. It will eventually settle down. Tire grip is okay, but the Kumho tires on it are not as quiet as some BF Goodrich's that I've used on other cars. They will be replaced by Pirelli's or BF Goodrich's. So, you wonder why I purchased it? I knew about the handling and tracking because I've rented this vehicle several times. The first reason is fuel economy. This car when driven continuously on the highway at around 70mph, gets about average 34 to 36 miles per gallon. Even in mix traffic, I very seldom get less than 32 mpg. In a 250 mile drive recently, where I had it cruising at 65mph, the car achieved, 39.75 miles per gallon. For a car that can easily handle four adult passengers, or 5 passengers with kids in the back, that is phenomenal. It is a very quiet cruiser, on very long drives there is not a lot of noise intrusion, which can increase driver fatigue. The entertainment system is very simple to use, with large fonts and nice size push buttons for phone, media, radio, blue-tooth and the like. It also works very well with my Android phones. The visibility behind the steering wheel is excellent to the front, sides and the rear. The trunk is very large and you can throw a lot of stuff into it. Also, the layout inside is simple and the quality of the materials is decent. Most important was the price. Getting the Sports model with twin exhausts (that make it look sporty, even though it is not), LED daytime running lights, the darker chrome in the front and then putting dark, tinted windows on it. Well, it looks like a design that although a little bit boring, well still look good in 6 years. At just over $21K, none of the other mid-size (large mid-size) cars could match it for the equipment and features One more thing, I have had no real issues with this vehicle at all and I'm at 39,000 miles. The entertainment system went weird after two months of purchase. Hyundai ordered me a radio, received it and installed it in about a week. It still has another 20,000 on the bumper to bumper warranty and more than a 100,000 on the powertrain.

Very good gas mileage, we average just over 32 on freeways and just over 27 combined. Lots of pep, never thought a four banger could have this much go power. Front seat are comfy and driver headroom is great. I am just over 6'3" and I fit. Back seats while comfy have less headroom. It has very good lane keeping for the most part. I was able to go over 10 miles on a curvy highway without touch the steering wheel. It will lose track though on entrance/exit points and badly painted roads. For the most part it kept me near center of the lane without pingponging. Controls for the most part are logical and clear. Mapping is good but it took a little while to adjust to it. Pricing is very good if you are willing to call and insist on a final cost before arriving at the dealership. I got this for $30k out the door. Paint is normal, tires are good and pretty quiet but we will upgrade when needed. The only problems so far are the headlights leave an indent in the center, and there is a slight distortion in the glass in top center. You have to be tall to see it. Overall a great purchase, compared to the $50k luxury cars I was looking at.
