Scary!

I thought this would be a good choice for many reasons. The gas mileage and for the environment. Plus I like Hyundai cars as I’ve owned an Elantra that lasted forever and they have a great warranty, but the hybrid to me is scary. First there is no room for a spare tire which makes me feel uneasy and the battery doesn’t charge while sitting in traffic so I had an issue with that not switching over to gas at the time. The car is so quiet you don’t even know if it’s on half the time. The check engine light keeps going on but they can’t figure out why. So I’m done with the hybrid of any kind. I still like Hyundai but no hybrids for me.

2017 Sonata Hybrid 147,000 Miles

I bought the car new in 2017. I currently have 147,000 miles on the car. Great car. Factory tires replaced at 72K. 2nd set replaced at 140k. Changed oil every 10K using Mobile full synthetic oil. Hyundia did injection cleaning service, full body throttle service and changed spark plugs at 140K. Headlight bulbs will go out at 60k consistency. Car got 40-42 mpg up to 140K miles. After 140K and service, mpg has slowly dropped to 32-37 mpg. Is this a sign that my hybrid battery is getting weak? Is there a way to test the hybrid battery or is it just going to die? At what point would Hyundia replace the Hybrid battery?

Loved it at first

Ok the negative. First got the car it was hydroplaning and sliding all over until the tires broke in. A couple of times I had it tell me the key not recognized and not start and had to remote start it with blue link. The blue link remote start is useless on a hybrid because if you try and heat the car it runs the gas engine for 15 seconds then 5 min of electric then the remote start times out and shuts the car off after 10 min. So you have to remote start it a 2nd time. And a 3rd time. Same with the AC. The AC doesn’t start blowing cold for the first mins of your drive. After 6 months I had check hybrid system come on the display while driving. It went away. 1 time the auto headlights didn’t turn off when I exited the car and needed a jump start. Took the roadside assistance 4 hours to come. Then last night after almost 11 months I stopped at a store and came out and car would do system check then say check hybrid system and not start. Called for a tow. After an hour tried the car again. This time it started. But check engine light is on. Turned it off again. Waited another half hour for tow because didn’t want to cause further damage. Started the car again to drive to dealership myself because tow was taking too long and everything seemed normal so I called to cancel the tow and the tow provider told me that they had already cancelled it with Hyundai because they didn’t have any trucks available. So I called Hyundai and told them I’m all set. An hour later I get a text that my truck is on the way. Called them to cancel. At this point it’s 11pm. Got a call at midnight 1am and 2am telling me my service should have arrived at this point and to press 1 if it has and 2 if it hasn’t. Car is going into dealership on Monday to check out the issue but I might drive it to the Subaru dealership after for a legacy. I don’t want an unreliable $34,000 car

This car has really been great. I haven't had any repair issues. I haven't even been to the dealership once since I purchased it. Regular oil changes are all I've had to do. The mileage has performed very well. I'm at 40.4 mpg after 30K miles. I think that's great. It does get better mileage in the warm weather than in the winter. Comfort and Technology are all great.

I call Sonata the Asian Benz. Drove European sedans for 30 years-mostly Mercedes. But was hooked on Sonata with their major redesign in 2011. Have been with Hyundai ever since and in my 3rd Sonata Hybrid Ltd. i give this car 5/5 stars as it is essentially flawless and performs exactly as stated. Averages 42-43mpg city and highway loaded with every available option. These cars are pretty much bullet proof and carry an amazing warranty. 1-30-2022. All I can say is ditto the above. 8-1-2022. Still love the Sonata no problems

I have had this car for 3 months and have put 5100 miles on it. I love the ride and comfort. The dash is well laid out with simple controls. I have no complaints about this car.

I think the heater is a bit gutless. The mornings here in southern Cal. have gotten cold. While the warmed seat is nice, the amount of heat put out by the engine seems minute. I think it has to do with engine temperature never really reaching higher temp levels. But I do like the car. At this time, I only have <600 miles on it.

We traded in a 2013 Hyundai sonata Hybrid which we had since 2014. It was a Basic level so did not have sunroof, backup camera, or any safety features. Shopped around for various Hyundais, mainly Limited series Sonata or Ioniqs and would up with a white 2017 Sonata Hybrid Limited. It rides fine and has all or most of the safety and convenience bells and whistles. Since we live in a rural area, we got the initial oil/filter change at a general-purpose auto service place near us. As far as I can tell all is well and we are very happy. Due to living in a rural area, we have put on about 6000 miles since purchase in early June.

Purchased new 46,527 miles mostly city driving my lifetime gas mileage is 108 mpg. Using gas for engine heat in illinois. I can go months in warm weather with no gas use. This been evey bit the car that I ecpected it to be. Replaced battery and tires (original are horrible).

2nd Sonata Hybrid-and this our LAST

We have enjoyed the fuel efficiency of both of our Sonata Hybrid (2011 & 2017). However, the 2017 Hybrid has had repeated issues with the small inverter radiator for the hybrid system. We have now replaced it two times and the dealership claims punctures have occurred in the radiator due to rocks/pebbles on the road. The first replacement occurred 5 months after the purchase and it was not covered by warranty. We never had these issues with the 2011 Sonata. We feel this a design flaw. The dealership claims the manufacturer will not warranty the replacement.
