Really want to love this car, bought used.

Bought this well kept and maintained 2012 Genesis in September of 2022 with 105,000 miles. Car ran great for a month until the battery died. Replaced battery but attempting to jump start the car resulted in the failure of the radio/navigation head unit. Thankfully I was able find a used one and didn't have to buy the dealer option for +$800!! Since the jump start the transmission surges around 3rd or 4th gear and only seems to do it when it's fully warmed up. Around November my wife accidentally hit the moonroof button in attempts to turn on a map light. The plastic track broke and the unit made a horrible noise and jammed. We are still trying to fix it after multiple trips to a sunroof specialist. The engine seems to be burning through about a quart of oil every 4,000 miles and the oil on the dipstick always seems to have dirt residue mixed with the oil? On the plus side the car drives super smooth and quiet...one of the main reasons why we bought it. Lot's of leg room and space in the back seat. Great driving dynamics for the car size. Based on my experience so far, I have to agree with the opinion that Hyundai's are great until you hit 100,000 miles no matter how well it's been maintained. I owned a Range Rover years ago and this car is reminding me of that experience. If you find one of these and it checks out with a mechanic do not pay Private Party Price. Offer seller/dealer High Trade in Value or walk.

deadly accelarating delay from a rolling stop

I have the 6 cyl sedan and the deadly delay from when you hit the gas pedal till the car moves is about 1-2 seconds from a rolling stop. That's long enough to get someone killed not to mention every time you go over a speed bump and hit the gas it takes a whole second or two before the car moves. That's not positive reaction by any means. It's deadly when you are trying to turn across traffic. Love the car otherwise but will not get another one if this issue isn't fixed. I guess there is no throttle cable and it's an electronic accelarater for the deadly delay I gave it a 2 for reliability because the ac compressor stopped working at 3000 miles and it took them a week to fix it

Bought used with 35K miles - been in the shop

Stuff breaking that should not be on a car with 35K miles. Electronic door lock actuator dead. Fueling venting system plugged (charcoal canister). Dealer has been very slow. 3 days to debug car, oops didn't order the parts. All parts have to be ordered, nothing is in stock. Repeated trips to dealer, forget the dealer shuttle ---- slow. When I have worked with GM and Nissan/Subaru dealers the car is fixed quickly and correctly, not seeing this with Hyundai. 42K update...transmission died. Dealer quote, $9400!! Fortunately have 3rd party warranty that is covering it. Dealer found rebuilt tranny after initially saying none were available for $4500. Car sat at dealership for over two weeks. 52K update.....navigation system locked up, screen is semi-permanently displaying warning message with no way of getting it to go away. Dealer quoting $5400 to replace navigation box. Fortunately warranty still in place...haven't pulled the trigger yet on doing the replacement. Would not buy a Hyundai again. Things break to often, are very very very expensive to fix, dealer service is sometimes slow.

Great car for the money! Wonderful ride, rich interior and solid performance. Technology lacking in the 2012 model. Bluetooth won’t stay programmed and backup camera view is minimal compared to today’s cars. Would still recommend it. Would definitely buy another Hyundai!

I traveled for years, got a new company car every 3 years. I’ve had them all. Fords, Chevys, Oldsmobile’s, Cadillacs and even a couple of Chrysler’s. My 2012 Genesis, bought new is, without a doubt the best car I have ever owned. The Koreans have done their homework. This is one fine car.

I’ve owned this auto for 12 years. I’ve had no major issue. Regular maintenance is all i’ve had to service. The staff at Rice Case in Duluth Ga is excellent. Service mgr Tammy always greets me.

Only complaint I have is that the update to the GPS navigation system is not via cd or wireless and I was quoted a cost of about $325 to update. I use my I-phone to get addresses GPS doesn't have, a minor inconvenience but not worth $325 to correct.

I bought my Genesis a few months ago and it's a 2012 with 30,000 miles. It's very comfortable and seats 5 easily with lots of room. It is very quick for its size and definitely turns heads. The only downside is the gas mileage is 22 mixed and city 18. It's a great car for the value!

I have 33k on my 2012 Genesis. Since purchase in 8/2011 I have had the navigation replaced, the fuel injectors had to be cleaned because they were so dirty the car would stall in the middle of driving and now the oxygen sensor had to be replaced....stalling again, but this time the engine light went on so they could find the problem easier. Last time when it was stalling they couldn't find the problem until after keeping the car for 5 days. Now they recommend I buy fuel injector cleaner and put that in the tank every time I get an oil change in order to keep it from happening again. Even doing this, the car still has a rough idle at the start of the day. June 23, 2017 Update. After contacting BBB and after a year from the initial stalling problem, A Hyundai rep. came to the dealership. The Throttle body was replaced and I have not had a problem with stalling since then. It took 4 repair attempts over the course of one year and a lot of concern for my safety while driving to finally get this fixed. I has been almost 3 years since the final repair.
