don't do it
I bought the elentra for the warrenty. No other company offers one as good. It's burning more gas then what the sticker displays. I already had to take it in for sevice twice one was the check engine light came on.. it was fault spark plug wires which ended messing up the plugs. i did the plugs myself they did the wires. around 20000 miles i start feel a lost in power. so i went to dealership to tell them i thing the clutch is slipping. they "look" at it and agree with me and say i need a new clutch, but i have to pay for it

Control arm?? Not
100,000.00 miles nothing covered, car has 74,000 control arm broke??? Not covered, pulled out transmission, not covered. Don't buy these cars the warranty is a joke, hey they let you talk to a consumer advocate, huh right they consume your money. This was my second Hyundai first one lasted 225,000 miles and was running well when I sold it. This is my last Hyundai and I tell everyone I talk to to avoid these cars now. They changed something, and no longer need loyal consumers. Stay away from these cars.
Nice car for a little $$
Went originally to buy an Accent. Dealer was out of 2001 Accents, so I looked at a base model Elantra GLS. Was very pleasantly surprised by the quiet yet powerful drivetrain. Has been a very good vehicle so far (10,500 miles).
Great Value for Price
I drive 80 miles a day, to and from work, in moderately heavy traffic. I was worried about the handling of a compact car in such traffic, but the Elantra handles more like a mid size than some actual mid size cars I've driven. The automatic transmission is very responsive in traffic stop and go situations, and I've been consistently getting 31 MPG as measured by filling the tank every week, then dividing the trip odometer mileage. Very nice car!
