Used 2003 Honda Element EX AWD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A) Consumer Reviews
Middle of the Road
Not really an SUV, nor a highway cruiser, the Element seems to work best in speeds between 20 and 50. Drives at highway speed (70) show the weaknessess of box-like areodynamics (wind can push you around). Definitely not an off- roader, the element still manages to do well on worn terrain. Base model equipped like a box (no standard AC, stereo, ABS. The fuel efficiency is somewhat low considering the 4 cyl engine....
NOthing like it
I think the element just looks really good. I wanted a hummer but couldn't afford it, but I guess the baby hummer will do for now. Nice car, lots of fun.

"Little Hummer" Turns Heads
Not a 20-something. Not a surfer. Not likely to live in the thing. Drive it to work and back, have taken 1300-mile roadtrip to test it's worthiness. Good in the slushy snow while in Richmond. Love the stereo. Needs a GPS. Only miss so far? A coat hanger hook! Dogs like it. Co-workers with either an "eek-that's ugly" or "it's kinda cute/interesting/chunky" (never sexy or fast looking). So far (~3000 miles) a real mule for the hauling and nice leg room and comfort for 6'5" owner (no, not as comfortable as the Yukon XL, but much less money). LOTS of looks and "what's thats" from the stop light and parking lot gawkers.
Too Expensive once you add what you want
I looked at buying an Element, I drove a CRV, a Rav4, and an Element. At first glance the Element looks to be a bargin. Its layout is very flexible, the rear opening is what all SUVs should have, not those stupid side opening doors the CRV or Rav4 have. When you start adding the option you want the price climbs quickly. Considering that most people are paying over MSRP for a Element it is no longer a bargin. Remote locks are extra, you got to be kidding, an arm rest for the passenger non existant.
After the newness wears off...
After the newness wears off, you being to realize how many little features are lacking in this vehicle. I got the EX because I imagined it to be factory "loaded" like the other Honda models. Not having keyless entry is a big drawback with kids. Also, the lack of passenger lock/unlock is crazy! I like the look of the SUV, but there aren't enough everyday conveniences to keep me happy. My Honda Civic was my favorite car ever, and I guess this just doesn't live up to the Civic.
