Used 1993 Honda Civic del Sol Consumer Reviews
Flashy Yet Classy
I was looking for a street racer and when I came across the Del Sol it was hands down #1 on my list. It was easy to trick out and now it accelerates 0- 60 in under 7 and carves corners like a hot knife through butter with minimal upgrades. This car is sweet and has alot of potential.
I still love it...refuse to sell it.
I purchased the car in 1996. It has been daily driver ever since. My wife & I have 2 kids & we can't bring ourselves to sell it. It makes a great commuter car & a great third "fun" car. I was going to buy a Miata, so glad I didn't. This car has a lot of room for a two seater. I can fit my lawn mower in the trunk w.the handles folded:)& close the lid. We have taken it on numerous vacations. I have only had to replace the distributor, besides the regular scheduled things. We have over 165,000 miles & I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.
Samba beast
I have driven my del sol for 2 years and it has performed flawlessly. People still ask today if the car is new and its 12 years old. Looks sporty and handle like a champ. Interior is very roomy for a two seater. I have a JL 12W6v2 behind the seats in a custom box with no sacrifice to seat room.
TOPless has never been more fun!
Its the kind of car where u KNOW it's going to be minimal and basic but you don't really care. REMARKABLY peppy engine for a 1.5L---even with an auto. trans! 13' wheels are embarrassing, and u really feel in the turns. Handling is ok, ride is VERY harsh. Sedated steering--turning is almost TOO easy. SO much creaking when the top is on that I feel like I'm in a haunted house! Cupholders SUCK! SO much room--and I'm 6'1! Trunk is big enough for a dead body. DENTS very easily...buy a ding king! The int. lamp is useless---like the sun-visors. Power rear window is bloody wicked. Considering that it's a 1993, I think that overall it's one hell of a cool car! I'd love to find an Si and modify it!!
My Experience
I've had my car for about 2 years now and there have been minor to zero problems. I like the gas mileage and to be realistic it gets about 30-32 mpg highway miles. I don't know where 40 mpg came from the review by Bovine just below. If he was talking about the Del Sols with the 1.5 motor then I could understand. Giving the Si more credit I guess. Which it doesn't really need. The motor is noisy but then again it IS a sports car so why it bothers anyone I don't know. The roof rattled a bit after I bought it but I fixed it by replacing the seals that were under $100. They're really that inexpensive. If you go to the Honda dealership to find replacements they'll be a whole lot more.
