fun, safe family car
This is a great car. Just dealt with, meaning put 110 miles in a Michigan blizzard yesterday. We traveled all over west Michigan in a certified blizzard. The all-wheel drive was flawless! I have never felt safer. Braking ABS worked great. Warm, comfortable. My only complain was the washer fluid nozzles froze quickly. My last VW had heated nozzels, but I also have no idea what kind of fluid was in them. Putting the better winter washer fluid would probably solve that. We really did well. Even when our highway shut down. I had my pregnant wife with me the whole time. She was worried but that is mostly my fault for going in the first place. I am really happy I bought this car for her.
2008 TaurusX
Before I got serious about my car shopping, I'd never heard of the TaurusX and I swore I would never own a Ford. The TX changed my mind and I got a great deal in 2009 on a left over 2008. Too bad for Ford that they didn't bother to advertise and tout this vehicle as it is a great vehicle. I really love the power and although I really tried, I couldn't find any major faults with the car. It's been over a year and about 17,000 miles and only routine maintenance. It was a good buy and one I would repeat if it were needed. I recommend it to others.

Saved my life
This car is a really fantastic car. I drove the 2008 Ford Taurus X Limited and put 59,000 miles on it in under two years and it was still in reliable condition. Though it did require maintenance and repairs on a few things, it was still an oveerall great car. The CD player did break, but the system allowed for replacement radio pretty easily. The driver seat lost heating function, but I attributed that to age. There were some funky issues with transmission at times, but nothing that warranted concern to the point of a body shop. All that aside, I was in a car accident where I flipped this car twice. Every single air bag deployed. All car door windows smashed. The windshield, despite being completely fractured was still in tact. My seatbelt did it's job. I walked away from that crash with some bruises, minor swelling, and some cuts. This car saved my life with how it's packaged and the safety features involved. I am beyond grateful for driving this tank.

Great ride, bad on gas
We've had our X for several months. I do primarily city driving (true city driving stop and go every block for miles on end) and my mpg averages around 12-14. I didn't expect to get the advertised mpg but would like to get at least 17 or 19. Interior fit and finish is so-so. Great for hauling young children and rear-facing car seats fit great in the back seats. This was the main reason we chose a CUV over a traditional car.
Bad choice for gravel roads
I own a 2008 Taurus X SEL & prior to that owned a 2006 Freestyle SEL. If you are looking for a great value on a AWD crossover style vehicle, this is your best option. The other vehicles in that category are VERY over priced. The T-rex (as we call it) is an overall good value, but is not a good choice for gravel roads. I drive 3 - 8 miles of gravel one-way to work. The brakes & wheels hold gravel like you wouldn't believe. The tires are always going out of balance because of that. The body moldings also hold a lot of dust, so difficult to wash as it always leaves streaks of wet gravel running out.
