Focus ST to Ranger
I’ve been reading about and test driving trucks for awhile. Test drove this and bought it. Lots of power, feels sporty and fun and I’m used to the fun of the Focus ST. Tacoma was slow, roofline was way to low, I’m 6’3. Colorado: just don’t like Chevy engines. Frontier, hate to say it but feels like a relic compared to the ranger. Subaru Ascent and outback, very nice but boring. So far getting about 19 mpg, hopefully that will improve, I only have 600 miles on it. I got the XLT, 4x4 sport with tow package for about $36,500. I think I did ok. Now time for mods, so far: bed rug which is awesome, tonneau cover, hood spoiler, mud flaps, brush guard, window visors, weathertech mats and rear cabin spoiler. It’s looking good! When the tires wear out I’ll do the leveling kit and some wider tires.
Surprised
Let's face it The current Ranger platform has been out for several years in other countries. So what took Ford so long to offer it in the States.?? I owned a 2016 Canyon with most all available options and it was a great truck except for the transmission (known issues) After searching for the The Ranger with the options I wanted XLT remote start sync and a few more goodies I have to say very surprised, Fun to drive turns sharper than the canyon and the 10 speed tranny is outstanding the 4 banger has great power. Very happy with a Ford platform that is not new at least not new in other countries I would guess Ford will only improve on this slightly aged platform.

Great truck
All the bells and whistles are worth the extra expense. Solid power, quite, handles well once you get use to suspension. Did have issue with back seat locking in once dropped for cargo(don’t bother with that not benefit).
KILLER DRIVE TRAIN & TECH, NEEDS SHOCK REPLACED
This is a great truck, with lots of power, a quiet cabin, plenty of head- and leg-room, cutting-edge tech options in the Lariat model, and a terrific sound system (also in Lariat only). My only complaint was with with stock shocks, which yielded a rough and bouncy ride. However, Ford now offers a Ford-branded Fox two-inch leveling kit, which improves the approach and crossover angles, elevates the cabin, and smooths out the ride, which is now controlled and comfortable in ordinary driving. So, yeah, great truck, but remember that you may have to kick another c. 2,000 bucks to cure the Ranger "bounce."

Nice truck, just not for me
I am not a truck owner, but have driven several. I rented a Ford Ranger XLT 4WD Crew Cab for a recent trip from NY to VA and back. I drove the truck for 3 days straight. First impression - this is a nice looking truck! The step-in is high, as expected. I found it difficult to comfortably step up and in smoothly, without banging my head. This would be annoying to deal with all of the time. The driver seat is comfortable, but hard to adjust. The seat is height adjustable, but I left it down. The back is very awkward to adjust and to get it just right. Maybe the power version is better? The side mirror controls are on the dash. You have to lean forward and left to reach them, so it could take several tries to get the mirrors right. Bad design. I started it up and the engine has a pop pop pop sound, sort of like a boxer engine on a Subaru. Driving off, the engine noise is loud and the truck really bobs and weaves and sways back and forth, especially on rough pavement. The movement subsides and the engine quiets down as you move along. But, a few times I felt a little car sick for a second. The engine has great low end torque and really take off. 10 speed transmission always shifted smoothly. Visibility is excellent, with a commanding view of the road. Headlights are good, and they include auto high beams - good feature. Radio is OK but the screen is tiny. Easy enough to pair with my iPhone, but I missed the Apple CarPlay. Lots of buttons on the center stack can be confusing. I tried to fold the rear seat but couldn't figure it out. Should be easier, like the Honda Ridgeline. Cruise control worked very well, although adaptive cruise would have been awesome. Highway handling could be a lot tighter. I found myself drifting alot. Around town, this truck handles like a much smaller car. I was shocked at how tight it can turn into a parking spot. Overall, this is a nice truck. I would want the power seats, adaptive cruise, better entertainment system, and a cargo cover. That's probably $40K+, so I don't see that happening. For someone that is used to a pickup as a daily driver, and need towing capacity, and under 6' tall, this is probably a good choice.
