automatic transmission is junk. Dumped the car !
Ford needs to hire some engineers that have some technology. The automatic stick shift transmission as they call it is a joke and dangerous to drive. Still Ford won't man up and recall and replace the transmission. It slips, shutters, and mine has had the clutches replaced already, still is no good! The dealer keeps making up excuses like the car is supposed to shudder, or it has to learn your driving. What a joke! It's a shame because it's a fun car to drive until it hit 7000 miles, the service dept told me upfront that they get at least one car in a day with this same complaint! Family member just bought one used, same problem no fix. Dumped mine! FORD MAN UP AND RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM! I finally dumped the focus after ford could not fix the problem, last ford I will ever own. Shame on Ford. It said on the side window build in Flint Michigan with pride. I hated to dump that car on someone else but not much I could do, they have had tons of complaints.

Worst transmission in history
The dual clutch automatic in these cars is absolutely horrible. We bought at 35,000 were told by ford dealer in Jeff city Missouri it was reflashed and good to go. We are at 66,000 have had two clutches, timing cover sealant and the starter fell off due to being removed ever time the clutch is replaced. Obtained a detailed history in car and learned it wasn't just a reflash on the computer it has had three clutches before we bought it which brings total to five clutches and the current is failing. Machens ford sold me a lemon and lied to me. These cars are junk and ford should be horse whipped.

Transmission issues will not go away
Ford is well aware of the transmission issues with the Focus cars. I realize a recall would be tremendous but how important is customer satisfaction? It's time for me to make a decision about trading my Focua.....I am caught in a bad position. Cannot directly sell to an individual as the transmission bucks too bad. So the dealership has made an offer but I will be upside down in my loan. Can't Ford, in an effort to keep a customer, offer an incentive to help with financing? Do I need an attorney?

What Ford calls normal is dangerous
Afraid to pull out. The car lurches between gears in the low gears. I hate it. Worst car I have EVER driven. Lots of bells and whistles but...the seats are too small for my 6.2 husband. The noise and rattles are numerous. Water pools in the ridges of the trunk and hood. And the gas mileage for the size is only fair. I wish I had purchased the corolla instead for the same price. BIG mistake.

Avoid at all costs!
It will cost you a whole bunch of $$ in repairs and the reliability is horrible. I bought my 2014 Ford Focus hatchback that I "thought" was going to be a long-lasting car but instead I got a [non-permissible content removed]. The repairs are very expensive. There will be a majority of mechanical problems such as the alarm system, the blinkers, unlocking and locking the vehicle. When I purchased this vehicle so far it has cost me new brakes, a new engine, and oil changes. This car is not "reliable" instead it is a car that's a hunk of junk.

One Star Because It's a Car
This car is the worst I've ever driven. Jumpy with an abundance of small issues coupled with back to back recalls it seems. Stuck upside down with this car now and wish I would've just bought a used Toyota like I had planned. Stay away.

I will never buy a Ford ever again!
I wish I would’ve done me research before getting this car. I total regret purchasing this car. I wish I could trade it, but I have loan on it & I still owe around $7,200! When I took it for a test drive everything was great! Then when I actually started driving it around more it started jerking when I came to a complete stop & pressed the gas, rumbling when I made certain turns, and sometime stall. The “Check engine” light came on...and it was some wrong with the transmission module. Thank god Ford has a 150,000 mile warranty & I got it fixed. Fast forward 5-6 months later & the “Transmission fault, service now” light comes on! I’m really hoping that it’s covered under the warranty. This car isn’t worth putting any money into! You’ll end up putting more money in the car than what it’s worth. I’ll never buy a Ford after I get rid of this piece of crap! DO NOT GET A FORD! I advice you to do your research so you won’t make the mistake I did!

big issues never fixed
Fords 6 speed transmission has big problems from the factory. The clutch had crap seals as built, years later when they HAVE NOT fixed the issue and changed the seals, It was great. For me FOR A BIT that was 3 cars later, at least I didn't need to pay for it. Then my steering totally went out, also a common problem but not covered under warranty. $1000 out of pocket. If it wasn't for those two BIG problems I could have given 5 stars the whole way. Ford drags it's feet fixing manufacturing problems.

Worst car I ever had!
Bought my 2014 Ford focus SE brand new. All the miles put on it were mine. Obviously any new car you drive off the lot you can say goodbye to about 5 grand. That's to be expected. I had TWO transmissions go on me, my car is an automatic and my car needed to be reprogrammed several times. Luckily the warrenty covered the transmissions that went under the 60K miles. My reprogramming I had to pay for and also a rental car. I filed two complaints with Ford. I received a class action lawsuit in the mail against their transmissions, after I went through all that hassle. I'm now just at 100k miles and my rack and pinion goes in the car. The part is recalled on the fusions and the fiestas but not the focus. The part is about 1200 and takes four hours of labor. Another pricey fix. I assumed my alternator would go before a rack and pinion or a belt. This WILL be the last ford product I will EVER own. There is just too many problems with the vehicle in such a short period of time. By far the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. I do not suggesting buying the ford focus.

Wanted It To Be Great; Awful Transmission (LEMON)
I recently got in a car accident with this vehicle, and it was totaled. I’m starting to see that this was the best thing that could’ve happened, however. While the car handled well and I liked the vehicle, the transmission was AWFUL. Bought it with 20k miles and drove it to 34k. The transmission was jumpy, it shuttered intensely, and couldn’t accelerate well at all. Turned out to be dangerous. I knew there would’ve been expensive repairs ahead, so I’m happy to have gotten out of it when I did. The car held its value well. Overall, don’t buy this vehicle. Hopefully Ford fixes this transmission issue or owns up to it in 2012-2014 Focus. It’s a lemon. I drive a 2009 Taurus now and it’s a dream!
