After 6 months

Owning the car for about 6 months I have alot to say. Overall the car is awesome, I would 100% recommend if the RS aint for you. However, no car is perfect. The car rattles and feels really no put togethet but a strut bar and sway bars did the trick. Its too quiet stock and didnt want something crazy loud so a axle back exhaust did the trick, cut the res out itll really wake up. I recommend changing the rear motor mount when you get the chance, especially if you drive it hard. The fuel pump should probably be switched as well if you brought it privately, better safe than sorry, the car takes premium not regular, its a turbocharged engine people. However no other problems. Great car, practical, perfect for a college student much better than a gti in my personal opinion. Its good on gas when you arent ripping it. If youre looking for a hatch id say this is it chief.

Great at first, but engine components have failed

In early 2017 I began my career in the San Francisco Bay Area as an engineer for the construction industry. My role in this position required me to drive to multiple construction sites expanding from San Francisco to San Jose. Because of this, I started my search for a vehicle I would be comfortable in and enjoy driving to work. It was in May 2017 when I found the Ford Focus ST3. I gained a great admiration for this car and even connected with it the moment I shifted from 1st to 2nd gear. I had the opportunity to test drive the vehicle at Ford Frontier dealership located in Santa Clara, CA. With a down payment and great credit score, I qualified for 0% interest through Ford Credit as a first time vehicle buyer. When I bought my car, I was looking forward to making memories with it. My plan was to even keep it long after I paid it off and perhaps pass it onto my children. I was really happy during this time and told my family, friends, and coworkers about my decision and experience of buying my Focus ST3. Unfortunately in the 2 years that I’ve owned my car, there has been a great deal of grief, stress, and uncertainty with the integrity of my car. Events immediately took a turn when I signed my contract. Weeks after driving my car, I received a letter from the DMV stating their inability to issue a registration card because they could not confirm my car insurance for the vehicle I was driving in. After sorting this mess out, I learned that Ford Frontier issued me a contract with a VIN # for a different Focus ST. It was this same VIN # from my contract which I relayed to my insurance when purchasing my car. I had to go through the hassle of correcting this by revisiting Ford Frontier for another contract agreement! I still have the old contract for the wrong VIN # to prove this (I could’ve argued that I was put in the wrong Focus ST, but this would’ve been a wrong and greedy act). I didn’t remain upset for too long after this first mishap, but soon after another unfortunate event occurred. In September 2018, my car’s check engine light appeared. I was very sad and worried for my car when this indicator light appeared. To diagnose my car, I first took it to Ford Frontier, but was rudely turned away by a service manager because I did not have a scheduled appointment. I understand that Ford Frontier’s Service can be backed up with service appointments, but when a customer shows up with a check engine light the least a service advisor can do is try to schedule a future appointment for me. However, I was quickly turned away and no additional customer service was provided. Because of this, I had to make a few calls to other Ford dealerships for the soonest service availability. Luckily, I was able to schedule a next day appointment with Sunnyvale Ford Service (at least I thought I had lucked out). When my vehicle’s diagnosis came back, I was informed of the purge valve recall, which did cause my vehicle’s engine to shut off once when exiting a freeway prior to taking it in. Not only did my purge valve need replacement, but my one cylinder was blown, there was an oil leakage, my head gasket had warped, and even needed new spark plugs! I have a copy of the full list of parts which were replaced and I can provide this upon request. My car was not even 2 years old and I had so many issues already. I was devastated to hear of all the repairs it needed. Although it was all covered under Ford’s Manufacturer Warranty, I came to the realization that I was sold a poorly built car. I felt robbed and uncertain about driving my car again. I felt that my car would never be the same again. My car was in Sunnyvale’s Ford Service shop for 5 weeks and I constantly called for an update to which I was constantly told “parts are not in yet” or “technician is still working on it”. I was provided a rental car which did not come anywhere close to providing the same driving experience. I made a $500 car payment during this time and I was not even in my own Focus ST3! When my car was returned to me, I felt really uncertain and concerned about driving in it. Not too much time past when May 2019 came around. During my commute to work on 5/29/2019 at around 4:50 a.m. I heard a loud banging noise coming from under the hood and even felt my car shake violently. Frightened and alarmed, I immediately pulled over. I exited my vehicle, opened my hood, checked my tires, but there was nothing wrong that I could identify. I got back in my car and while in neutral I slightly pressed on the throttle and felt my car shake. There was no check engine light or any other type of indicator on my dashboard to inform me there was an issue. I was scared. I immediately called my car insurance to get towed to Frontier Ford. This time I had a different service advisor who was kindly enough to take my vehicle in without an appointment. After leaving my vehicle, I felt sad, defeated, and was reminded of my previous experience when taking my car to get serviced. My

This car is surprisingly fast and torquey. It may not be for everyone since it is a 6 speed manual only. Ford was blowing them out so I got a lot of bang for $$$$.

Car is nice. Idles rough and I had to buy a air vent cleaner kit to get the mildew smell out when you first turn the AC on. It is a fun little car.
