I have the infamous

I originally had concerns with build quality, but got those issues resolved at the dealership. However, I am experiencing the infamous "hoot" noise in the transmission, which, apparently, hundreds of 4WD owners are experiencing. At first Ford said it was not a problem, and simply inherent in the transmittion. Then they said a temporary fix would be to replace the chain in the transaxle. Now, they say a permanent fix will be available in the second quarter of 2011. - What a crock! I have owned seven vehicles with either AWD or 4WD and none have had a similar issue. I am very disappointed with Ford, and this may be my last Ford, even though I have owned at least 10 over the years.

Starting in 2005 with my first Escape, then with my 2008 escape I have to admit this 2011 I just bought is the best of all. Most of the "Bugs" have been worked out. The Michelin tires on this one are a first for me. The road noise so evident in the other two is gone now and I attribute that to the tires. Sync is okay, I'm a old guy at 61 and pretty much know where I am going. Perhaps it will help when I become senile? I do miss the compartment in the back under the carpet for the "extra" junk we all carry but never use. I finally got the moon roof and the fog lights. Very pleasant additions. The service department at my dealer is fantastic. The 2011 Escape is well worth the price.

My dad worked for Ford, and I have owned nothing but Fords my whole life.. I leased this in April 2011 and am counting the days til it is expired. The transmission is HORRIBLE - I'ts been in the shop 4 times and nothing has been fixed. It jumps gears and feels like you've been in a big accident - I almost hit my head on the steering wheel! Vibration at idle at stoplights or drive thru's is horrid, and you can hear the ticking when you start it up. I don't know why this has not been recalled. Every person that I talk to at my job at an auto parts store that has a 4Cyl Escape 09-11 has the SAME issues! Get it together Ford!

The Good, Bad and the Ugly

My wife and I purchased our Second Ford Excape after our first one (2010) was involved in an accident that wrote it off, but it saved my families life, hence the second one which is a 2011. We like the vehicle, and have the V6, which has more power than people expect. It's kind of rough around the edges, loud road noise and engine, and drives kind of like my jeep YJ used to in many ways. It's not as refined as I expected, but on the plus side, it's small and easy enough to park and manouver in traffic, build quality is superb, had original transmission issues which we're fixed under warranty, and the rear hatch doesnt open all the time (needs to see dealer). Overall quite happy though.

I got a chance to buy this car used from a co-worker about to trade it in. Escape had higher mileage 143,200 due to spouse traveling weekly out of state for job. Numerous features and verifiable maintenance made this a great buy. My Escape is a 4 cyl Limited FWD trim. Immediately after buying I replaced rear shocks and front brakes and an alignment. Just a nice vehicle with lots of options. Ride is very truck like, but accelerates and handles well on clear roads, and respectable handling on light snow and wet pavement. Braking has proven to be good as well. I bought the Escape with fairly new Michelin tires, so that could have a lot to do with handling. I personally like its older body style. Sitting position is high with good driving views. Side mirrors have a split view to aide in catching anything in blind spots. I really am enjoying owning and making this my daily driver. I have a short 7-8 mile commute to work one way. Solid acceleration, good handling, lots of useful options, and good driving position have made this a good vehicle so far. The biggest negative I have about the car is rust. I was disappointed to find significant rust on right rear fender well. Something you just typically do not see much anymore on vehicles this age.
