Great car with few cons

I have the lowest end car available that I picked up at a great price in January 2013. The design work on the car looks great inside and out. The interior is nicer than you would expect from a base model. The dashboard was designed for the nicer electronic touch-screen interface, which my car does not have, but the manual system looks nice and functions well. It has a roomy interior with adequate cargo, although smaller than expected. The car has a sporty feel while driving (especially with a 6 speed manual), but it does not reach advertised mpg, and can be somewhat difficult to shift smoothly at first. It cruises smoothly on the freeway and handles well better than similar sedans.

I have the manual transmission, 2.0L. I’m not exaggerating when I say.. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. IS. A. LEMON. The clutch WILL break and say in the floor and your car WILL NOT be able to move whatsoever (without a tow truck.) It costs anywhere from 1.8k to 2.5k dollars to get it fixed. The clutch kit is manufactured very poorly. There’s been a class action lawsuit for it, settled by Chrysler.. kinda?? A customer satisfaction program, that is no longer in effect? I don’t know.. but I couldn’t get my car fixed I know that. It’s crazy. It should have been recalled. It can cause very serious safety issues. You could be going 70mph down the highway and BOOM your car breaks, smoke everywhere and you have to pull off the road and get a tow truck. Luckily for me I was just leaving a stop sign and it happened. But I assure you, if you get this car, this WILL happen. Even if it’s been fixed, because guess what! It’s a Dodge only part, there are NO aftermarket parts for some reason (kinda fishy,) and you HAVE to put the same part that broke because it was poorly manufactured BACK IN YOUR CAR! It’s the same part, just new and not broken.. yet. But again. It will break. Don’t get this car!

I got my dart when they first came out and loved it until at 911 miles all lights came on and the engine stopped. Took in to dealer they had it for 2 weeks and then told me they couldn't fix it didn't know what was the problem with it. So they reordered me another Dart which took over 10 weeks to get. In rental car all this time. Wow finely got my other new Dart. Keep in garage for the winter now I have it back out on the road was doing good up to 6000 miles. Then when the tranny got heated up and would shift it would raz the engine up to high RPM's and thump really bad and not want to pull very well. So you guessed it back in the shop again. This is really bad in second and fourth gear.

not a compact

First, this is not a compact car. It has more or similar interior room and trunk space as the Honda Accord coupe and the Chevy Malibu. It is a midsized car at a compact car price and with compact car fuel mileage. I almost bought a Focus, but the Dart was better equipped and had more space. The Focus just cannot accommodate adults on a long trip, the Dart can. Anyone who says the Focus interior is superior to the Dart's is blind. I own the SE with the manual, cruise control, and Uconnect. The build quality was excellent, no bad panel gaps, paint, everything worked. I have had it for 10 months, 2 long trips, 9,000 miles, and only oil and filter changes.

Even if it caught fire

I love this car!! Yes, it did catch fire after a faulty oil change, I lived without it for about 4 months while being repaired, driving everything from a Kia Soul, to Jeep Cherokees, Ford Fiestas and a few other mini cars. But when I got Didi back, I was so happy. She is still going strong with 70,000 miles on it. This car is so under rated and I'm so sad that Dodge isnt making these cars anymore. It drives well in the snow, (living in New England we get a lot of it) whether it be a blizzard or just a light coating. Handles well in heavy rain and of course on a sunny day, it hugs the corners well. We managed to stuff my daughters oversized bean bag chair into the trunk and dragged it to her college. I recently moved and Didi did her part by fitting sporting equipment, china and furniture into her confines. If and i do mean IF Didi shall pass to the junk yard of the sky, I wish I could buy another one because its a great car for the money!
