Used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Consumer Reviews
Great
I have waited quite a while to write this review. I have owned the vehicle for over 2 years now and can say it is outstanding.

Duramax fan
This is the second Diesel GM pickup I own. I use it as my everyday vehicle but I specifically bought it for long range driving trips and towing a camper. For long range trips and towing, you cannot beat the Duramax/Allison transmission combination. I had my last truck for over 10 years and 165000 miles and it still ran and looked great. I am hoping to get the same out of this one.

GIVE ME A LADDER AND RAISE THE DRIVER OPENING
This is my 5th Silverado in 20 years. I have arthritis especially in my neck it is increasingly difficult for me to get into the drivers seat because the door opening is tight for me. My wife on the other hand is only 5'4" so she has to climb into the passenger seat. She is getting the hang of using the double step nerf bar we added . This 2016 is about 5 inches higher off the ground than my 2008 was. On the other hand the handling and fuel efficiency blows the 2008 away. So the trade off was worth the inconvenience of climbing in and out of the cab.

Disappointed
Let me just say, we miss our 1997 Chevy 3/4, 4x4 truck. For the same gas mileage, I at least had a 454 hp engine that could get out of it's own way. I wouldn't dare pull out in front of anything. Example, pulling onto the interstate, when you step on the gas the power backs off (enough to make your head bobble) then initiates the pickup thrust. I wouldn't lay my life on the line. The metal is cheap and thin, I doubt it will last 10 yrs. By the way we still are using our '97 around the farm! It comes with a basic radio, and I could not purchase a GM cd player. The speakers in the back doors are horrible. The cigarette lighter in the front console takes forever to charge any device. The A/C comes on for everything (even just turning up the blower knob), it's a long time known problem, I believe since 2013 and as of today there is no fix. Every year since we bought it new, we have had to replace the Water Pump and belts. The dealer said the first pump had a pinhole leak and the second one they said the water pump itself was loose. This is our first new vehicle ever and I can't tell you how embarrassing it is to hear it squeal everyday since we bought it, almost 3 yrs now. And I'm not talking a quiet noise either! I have taken back to the dealer multiple times. Every time I suggest there is another reason causing the pump to go bad, they blow me off. Something has to be out of alignment, causing the water pump to go bad, its not just bad luck. I truly believe they are trying to run the warranty out. Sad :( I don't like how high the truck sits, no reason for it. The in dash trailer brake has known issues hooking up to different trailers, it won't connect. The door handles are made of cheap thin plastic. On the plus side, it has bright lights and lots of storage room for cups and other stuff. Although I wouldn't use the pop down cup holder between the back seats without supporting it underneath.

Known transmission issues
Very disappointed that manufacturers know there is a torque converter clutch issue. And won't issue a recall. Now I only have 93,000 miles on it (not my daily driver) and it needs new transmission. I only use truck to haul. Never abused. And I have to spend 6,000 on new one. According to mechanic and dealership it's a known problem in all the chevys. Sad mine ran out of warranty. Was told if they put a new transmission in it. It will be same transmission with same issues. With only 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty. I won't put that many miles in 3 years. Very disappointed.

High times in my High Country
This vehicle was researched for the better part of 6 months. Finally decided to move forward with the purchase in November. Best decision I ever made. Riding High and putting it through the paces of everyday use.Not disappointed at all. Definitely got what I wanted and paid for it.

Mostly a towing monster
Great diesel truck. Have gotten up to 29 mpg on 130 mi round trip on hilly terrain 2 people 2dogs with kayaks in bed. Pulling 33' 5th wheel thru AZ, CO and NM is amazing! 10000' mtn's no problem using tow haul and Jake brake removes the white knuckles of a lesser vehicle. Towing mpg depends of course on grade and wind expect 8 to 14. Around town 17 is the easy does it norm at 2500' elev. It is hard for shorter people to get in and to see over the steering wheel. Wife is 5' 6" and visibility for her is poor, even if you had pwr seats. As has been mentioned def fluid must be monitored thru mileage and the fill spot and the tank (under the passenger side) is not ideal. Before this I had a turbo ford f150 which is more comfortable seats and driving position but the power and mpg of this 2500 makes this better for the big pulls.

2500 HD Z71 Diesel is awesome
I've had this truck since new and it has never let me down. Towed a dump trailer with skidsteer inside in the mountains of Colorado with ease. In 60k miles 50/50 city and highway use I have small clunk in steering linkage and the radio doesn't turn on sometimes when it's 15 degrees or less. I drove the 2015 dodge and Ford diesels and the dodge is a true work truck and the ford steering was too loose for me brand new. My only complaint is the Z71 suspension is bumpy with no load in the back, but it did get me through trails my friends Grand Cherokee couldn't manage while hunting.

General Motors mistake
2016 Chevy 2500 HD High Country. I have owner this truck new for 3 1/2 months now & I've had it back to the dealer twice for water leaks. I owned a GMC 1500 before the chevy that leaked too. Shame on me for trying GM again. The dealer has been great for trying to fix the leak. General Motors on the other hand has done nothing but read from a script of lines to make it sound like they are concerned about you. I wish General Motors would pull there collective heads out of the back side & address the problems that they are having with a bunch of there model vehicles introducing water into the cabin and trunk areas.

Electronic issues
I bought this truck in 2016. A few months later the radio would not turn on at all when I cranked the vehicle up. Stopped at a dealership to have it checked out. When they cranked it up again, it went back to working. This has happened multiple times over the past few months and has progressively gotten worse. Now not only is the radio not coming on sometimes, the fuel gauge will mess up and the check engine light will come on. I have taken it to have it fixed under the warranty and called Chevy's customer care line and have gotten nothing done. The dealership says they can't find anything wrong with it, that nothing is showing on the computer, but you put a reader on it or take it AutoZone and have their reader on it and multiple codes show up. This seems to be a definite electric issue and no one wants to fix it. They are all satisfied to wait on the warranty to run out then find out what is wrong with it and charge me. I have also noticed that the transmission is starting to stumble a bit. I bought the truck with a lift kit already installed and less than a year later the ball joints need replacing but the dealership can not or will not order the right ball joints to replace them.
